Chapter 15: The Secret at the Tower's Summit

---

The Room of Light

As the door creaked open, Kano and his team stepped into an immense chamber bathed in radiant blue light. The crystalline walls sparkled, casting intricate reflections across the room. At the center stood a circular altar, above which floated a pulsating orb of energy that throbbed like a living heart.

"What is that?" Reina asked, her gaze locked onto the orb, its glow mesmerizing.

"It's the core of this tower," Lyra replied, her voice laced with awe. "The source of energy that keeps this island hidden from the rest of the world."

Kano approached the altar cautiously. The orb began to glow brighter, and the same deep voice from before resonated through the chamber.

"Kano, Bearer of the Rune, you have proven yourself worthy to learn the truth. But are you prepared to bear the burden that accompanies it?"

Without hesitation, Kano answered, "I am."

The orb's light expanded, transforming into a vivid holographic display of a ravaged world. Cities lay in ruins, oceans had turned into arid deserts, and colossal shadowy creatures—similar to the guardian they had fought earlier—roamed freely, leaving destruction in their wake.

"This is the end of the world," the voice declared. "Long ago, this realm was one of peace and unparalleled advancement. But greed led to the misuse of the Primordial Runes, opening a portal to Voidus—a dimension of eternal darkness and devastation."

Kano froze, his breath catching. "Wait... is this the same world I come from?"

"Yes," the voice confirmed. "The world you know is the aftermath of that cataclysm. It fell because humanity sought power without understanding the cost. Now, you alone have the chance to right those wrongs."

---

The Guardian's Mission

The voice continued, "The Runes etched into your body are the key to sealing the Voidus portal forever. But to do so, you must recover all the fragments of the Primordial Runes scattered across this world. Only then can balance be restored."

Kano clenched his sword tightly. "But these Runes... how can I gather something so powerful?"

"Each fragment is fiercely protected by beings corrupted by Voidus. To reclaim them, you must wield courage, wisdom, and unwavering resolve."

Reina stepped forward. "And what about us? What role do we play in all this?"

"You are his allies, his protectors," the voice replied. "Together, you form a force capable of overcoming the trials ahead. But remember, this journey will demand sacrifices."

Warnings from the Past

The orb's light shifted, revealing the image of a man who looked strikingly like Kano—though older, wearier, and burdened by regret. The man spoke in a voice that trembled with despair.

"If you're seeing this, then you are my reincarnation. I failed to stop the destruction, but you still have a chance to succeed where I could not."

Kano's eyes widened. "Reincarnation? You mean... I'm him?"

"Not merely a reincarnation," the voice interjected. "You are a fusion of a human soul and the energy of the Rune. You were created to be the final guardian, a being capable of redeeming the mistakes of the past."

Kano stood in stunned silence, the weight of the revelation pressing down on him. "So, I'm not entirely human?"

"That is correct. You are unique, Kano. But that uniqueness allows you to wield the Runes without succumbing to their corruption."

---

Voidus Strikes

Suddenly, the chamber quaked violently. The orb's blue light flickered and turned a deep crimson. The walls cracked, and an otherworldly screech filled the air.

"What's happening?" Lyra shouted.

"Voidus has discovered your presence!" the voice boomed. "They've sent an avatar to destroy you before you can complete your mission."

From the fractured walls emerged a monstrous entity—a towering shadowy figure with fiery red eyes that burned with malice. Its very presence made the air thick and oppressive, stealing the strength from their limbs.

"Prepare yourselves!" Dorian yelled, raising his shield.

---

Battle Against the Avatar

The Voidus avatar attacked with terrifying speed, its massive claws tearing through the altar in the center of the room. Kano leapt forward to protect the orb, but the force of the creature's blows sent him sprawling.

"We need to keep it away from the altar!" Lyra shouted, summoning a shield of wind to guard the orb.

Reina unleashed a volley of enchanted arrows, but the creature absorbed them effortlessly. "Conventional attacks won't work!" she cried.

"We have to use the Runes," Kano said, his determination igniting. His runes flared to life, and his blade radiated an intense blue light. With a powerful strike, he managed to wound the creature, but the injury healed almost instantly.

"It's regenerating too fast!" Tharn growled, bracing himself against a powerful blow.

The orb's voice rang out again, urgent and commanding. "Voidus can only be defeated by a force equal to its own. Harness the Rune's full power, and strike as one."

Kano focused his energy, the runes on his body glowing brighter than ever. He looked to his companions. "Lend me your strength!"

One by one, Reina, Dorian, Tharn, and Lyra channeled their energies into Kano's blade, amplifying its power. With their combined might, Kano unleashed a devastating strike that cleaved through the avatar, shattering it into fragments of shadow that dissipated with a haunting wail.

A Glimpse of Hope

As the dust settled, the orb regained its blue hue, though its glow was dimmer than before.

"You have proven your resolve," the voice said, its tone filled with respect. "But Voidus will not rest. They will send more to stop you."

Kano nodded, his grip on his sword firm. "We'll face whatever comes. But how do we find the other Rune fragments?"

"Trust the Runes within you," the voice replied. "They will guide you. Remember, each step will bring you closer to the truth—and to your greatest challenge."

The orb faded, and the chamber began to collapse.

"We need to get out of here!" Dorian shouted.

The team raced down the crumbling tower, narrowly escaping as it fell into ruins. Behind them, only a faint blue glow lingered, a reminder of the secrets they had uncovered.
