Chapter 8: The First Steps Toward Destiny

---

New Power, New Burden

The day after the incident in the Gravantis Library, Kano felt different. The runes on his body now felt fully integrated—not a weight, but a part of him. Energy flowed seamlessly through his movements, and he could sense subtle vibrations in the air, like a radar attuned to the world around him.

But one thing hadn't changed—Reina's unease. During their journey back to Lyndor, Reina spoke little, her usual cheer replaced with caution and concern.

"You know something, Reina," Kano said finally as they camped by a river. The warm glow of their campfire contrasted sharply with the chill of the night.

Reina, busy restringing her bow, sighed. "It's not me who knows, Kano. Master Arvyn once told me a story about someone like you. He was a hero, but he became the world's greatest threat."

"What do you mean?" Kano asked, his brow furrowing.

Reina met his gaze, her eyes serious. "You have incredible potential, Kano. But power like that is a double-edged sword. If you lose control, you won't just destroy yourself—you'll destroy everything you care about."

Her words struck deep, and Kano fell silent. He couldn't deny the truth in them. Kanorion's past was proof of what could happen.

A New Threat

When they arrived at Lyndor, the guild hall was filled with tension. Master Arvyn summoned Kano and Reina to his chamber. Spread across a large table was a map of the world, dotted with glowing red marks in the northern regions.

"This is bad news," Arvyn said, pointing to the marks. "There are reports of strange creatures attacking villages in the north. These aren't ordinary monsters—they're beings created by Voidus's magic."

Kano's chest tightened. "What does this have to do with us?"

Arvyn fixed him with a piercing stare. "These creatures are reacting to the runes on your body. I believe your presence is what's causing them to stir."

"So it's my fault?" Kano asked, guilt heavy in his voice.

"It's not your fault," Arvyn said firmly. "But it does mean we can't sit idle. We have to stop them before they reach Lyndor. You must lead a team to investigate."

Though the weight of the task was heavy, Kano nodded. He knew he couldn't run from this responsibility.

A New Team, A New Challenge

For this mission, Kano was joined not just by Reina but also by three other adventurers:

1. Dorian, a silver-haired swordsman with a calm but commanding demeanor.

2. Lyra, a young mage with a knack for elemental magic. Cheerful yet often overconfident.

3. Tharn, a hulking warrior wielding a massive warhammer. Gruff but with a gentle heart.

"So you're the one they've been talking about," Dorian said, scrutinizing Kano with sharp eyes. "I hope you can lead us well."

Feeling the pressure in his words, Kano simply nodded. "I'll do my best."

With this new team, they set out toward the northern mountains known as Ravarn's Crest, where the creatures were first sighted.

The Battle at Ravarn's Crest

When they reached Ravarn's Crest, they found villages reduced to ruins. There were no signs of life, only scattered debris and claw marks etched into the ground. The air was thick with a dark energy that weighed heavily on them.

"These creatures clearly aren't from this world," Lyra said, kneeling to examine the ground. "Their magic feels... unnatural."

A sudden, deafening roar shattered the silence. Emerging from the mist was a massive wolf-like beast, its body cracked and glowing with dark blue light.

"Get ready!" Tharn shouted, hefting his warhammer.

The beast lunged at them, but Kano reacted quickly, leaping forward and raising his hand. The runes on his body flared as he conjured a shield of energy to block the attack. The energy flowed effortlessly, his body moving as if guided by instinct.

"Lyra, fire magic!" Reina called out.

Lyra raised her staff and launched a fireball at the beast. But instead of being harmed, the creature absorbed the flames, its glow intensifying.

"It's absorbing magic!" Dorian shouted. "We'll have to take it down physically!"

Tharn charged, swinging his warhammer, but the beast countered with its claws, sending him flying.

"Kano, now's your chance!" Reina yelled.

Kano stepped forward, feeling the runes on his body heat up. He extended his hand, releasing a concentrated burst of energy that struck the beast's glowing core. The energy pulsed violently before the creature exploded into fragments of light.

The Hidden Truth

After the battle, the team regrouped to search the area. Among the remains of the beast, Kano found a small stone radiating the same energy as his runes.

"This is a Voidus Fragment," Lyra said, her eyes wide with alarm. "It's a shard of Voidus's power. If there are more of these scattered across the world, we're in serious trouble."

Dorian turned to Kano. "This means you're not just the key to stopping these creatures. You might be the only one who can gather these fragments and ensure they don't fall into the wrong hands."

Kano clenched the fragment tightly, its energy resonating with his own. Deep down, he knew this was only the beginning. The path ahead would be more dangerous than anything he had faced before.

"Then we don't have a choice," Kano said. "We have to stop this before it's too late."

End of Chapter 8

With new allies and mounting challenges, Kano steps further into a destiny he never asked for. As he uncovers the fragments of Voidus's power, he must navigate a world on the brink of chaos, where every step brings him closer to his ultimate test.
