"Mmm Big sis you don't like to talk much huh?" Mercy asked she looked at the blue sky and then at Isabella who had a blanket wrapped around her overweight body. Isabella just emotionly nodded her head.
Isabella's expression remained blank and cold, her eyes still fixed on the ground.
Mercy couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness at her sister's indifference. She had hoped that they could bond somehow, but it seemed like Isabella was too closed off for that.
Mercy fidgeted with the edge of her blanket, feeling a mix of sadness and helplessness. She could see that Isabella was hurting, but she didn't know how to reach her.
She tried again, speaking softly.
"Can I ask you something?"
Isabella looked up at Mercy, her expression still blank and cold.
"What is it?"
Mercy took a deep breath, trying to find the right words.
"I know we don't really know each other," she said carefully.
"But I can tell that something's hurting you. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to, but I just wanted you to know that I'm here for you if you ever need someone to listen."
"Mercy," Isabella voice was blank it felt like there was no emotion when she said those words but all she said was a name it felt like someone was about to lecture Mercy.
Mercy's heart skipped a beat as she heard Isabella say her name. There was something about the way she said it that made her feel both nervous and excited at the same time.
She looked up at Isabella, trying to read her expression but failing.
"Yes?"
"Thank you but I won't need any help." Isabella said coldly. Her gaze drifted off to the side, her expression remaining blank.
Mercy's heart sank a little as she heard Isabella's cold response. She had hoped for some kind of connection with her sister, but it seemed like Isabella was determined to keep her distance.
Mercy nodded silently, feeling a mixture of disappointment and acceptance. She knew that trying to force a connection with someone who wasn't ready was pointless.
Isabella didn't care about anything the only thing that kept her going was the fact she was pregnant with quadruples.
Isabella's mind was consumed by thoughts of her unborn children. She couldn't help but feel a mix of fear and determination as she thought about what it would be like to bring four babies into this world.
She wrapped her arms around herself, subconsciously protecting her stomach from harm.
"Big sis are you pregnant?" Mercy asked in a curious manner.
Isabella tensed up as Mercy asked her question. She hadn't expected anyone to notice her pregnancy yet, especially not someone she had just met.
She looked down at her stomach and then back up at Mercy, trying to keep a neutral expression on her face.
"Yes," she said quietly.
"Big Sis do you know that is the first question you answer from me?" Mercy asked Isabella who frowned.
Isabella looked at Mercy, her expression still guarded. She hadn't realized that this was the first time she had actually answered one of her sister's questions.
She nodded slightly, a hint of vulnerability in her eyes.
"Yes," she said quietly.
Mercy smiled softly at the small moment of connection. She could see a flicker of vulnerability in Isabella's eyes, and it gave her hope that maybe they could bridge the gap between them.
She leaned a little closer to Isabella, her voice soft.
"How far along are you?"
"Pregnant?" Isabella asked indifferently toward Mercy.
"Yes how long have you been pregnant?" Mercy asked and grabbed Isabella hand who pulled her hand away she dislike being touched as she sighed.
Isabella flinched slightly when Mercy grabbed her hand. She wasn't used to physical touch, especially not from someone she barely knew.
She paused for a moment before answering.
"Three months," she said quietly.
Mercy's eyes widened in surprise. Three months already? She had expected Isabella to be further along.
She tried to hide her surprise and keep her voice calm.
"And how are you feeling?"
"so and so."
Mercy could tell that Isabella wasn't being entirely honest. She knew that pregnancy was a big deal, especially for someone who had been living on the streets.
She shifted a little closer to Isabella.
"You know you can be honest with me," she said gently.
"Thank you."
"How old you Big Sis?"
"Sixteen."
"Sixteen and you are pregnant!?" Mercy asked shocked.
Isabella nodded, her expression still stoic. She had grown used to people reacting this way when they found out her age.
She shrugged slightly.
"It happens," she said nonchalantly, trying to hide the fact that she was terrified.
Mercy's heart ached for her sister. Sixteen and pregnant, living on the streets with no one to turn to.
She wanted to reach out and comfort her, but she knew that Isabella wasn't ready for that.
"Are you scared?"
"No I am not," Isabella said she was honestly telling the truth.
Mercy looked at Isabella, her expression turning from confusion to realization.
"You're not?" she repeated quietly.
She studied Isabella's face for a moment, trying to decipher the truth in her words. Despite the coldness in her voice, there was something about the way she spoke that made Mercy believe her.
Isabella met Mercy's gaze with a steady one of her own. She knew that she was being truthful when she said she wasn't scared.
She shrugged slightly, as if it was no big deal.
"I've been through worse," she said quietly.
"Really? Like what?" Mercy asked.
"Don't butt in," Isabella snapped.
Mercy flinched slightly at the sharpness in Isabella's tone. She had struck a nerve.
She raised her hands up in surrender, trying to diffuse the situation.
"I'm sorry," she said quickly.
"I didn't mean to pry."
Isabella walked out of the shade as she looked around she picked her phone and saw messages from her brother none from her asshole dad she clenched her jaw tightly as she took a deep breath it felt like she truly lost all emotion her eyes were soulless. Mercy hopped over and she grinned happily.
Mercy followed Isabella out of the shade and watched as she checked her phone. She could see a shift in her sister's demeanor, almost as if all the life had drained from her.
Mercy's heart ached for Isabella. She knew that something had hurt her deeply, but she also knew that it wasn't her place to pry.
Isabella's expression remained blank as she checked her phone, her eyes scanning the screen for any new notifications.
The silence between them was deafening as Mercy waited patiently for Isabella's reaction. She could feel the tension in the air thicken with every passing second.
Isabella let out a sharp exhale, her shoulders sagging slightly.
She turned back towards Mercy, her expression still guarded but with a hint of vulnerability in her eyes.
"I have to go," she said quietly.
"Where are you going? Big sis?"
Isabella looked at Mercy, a mixture of surprise and defensiveness in her eyes. She hadn't expected anyone to ask about her plans.
She paused for a moment before answering.
"I'm going somewhere safe," she said simply, not wanting to give too much away.
