Chapter 10 - future

Abby was squeezed out by the excited crowd just as Louise dodged Charles's sneak attack.

It seemed that there wouldn't be much suspense left in this match.

Abby simply decided to leave the training ground.

Unexpectedly, the training ground was such a fiery and crazy place, completely opposite to other places in the school.

In the dormitory, cafeteria, and auditorium, Abby would often reminisce about her life back in college.

Although many things were different, she was still surrounded by classmates who appeared to be ordinary students just like those she had seen before.

This made Abby occasionally feel as if she had just come to another place to attend university.

However, today's match suddenly made her soberly realize that this place was one where only real strength could guarantee a good life.

It was not like her previous life, where following the rules and studying hard in books was enough.

Without strength, one might not only fall victim to zombies but also be killed by "one's own people."

There were always people like Charles who would stop at nothing to achieve their goals.

And...

Abby looked at the badge on her right hand, her thoughts churning.

She wouldn't simply assume that this ranking was just a ranking.

In any world, a ranking meant competition, and competition meant benefits.

She just didn't know what kind of benefits it would bring yet.

Thinking of this, Abby quickened her pace toward the library.

She needed to familiarize herself with everything about this world as soon as possible.

The sun, not yet at its zenith, filtered through the cracks in the curtains, casting delicate and soft light, like sparkling diamonds, onto the figure of a youth, as if embellishing him with a layer of dazzling radiance.

There were people sitting in the reading area engrossed in books, and others wandering between bookshelves looking for books; they both inevitably turned their gaze toward the youth sitting by the window.

Having seen plenty of handsome and beautiful people in school, they found this newcomer somewhat unfamiliar.

Could he be a freshman?

How wonderful, more and more good-looking juniors and sophomores!

In such a library filled with the vibrant atmosphere of youth, the book open before Abby, however, presented a stark contrast with its content on the abilities and weaknesses of zombies at different levels—such a drastic change in genre.

Abby flipped through the book in front of her, half-listening to Xiao Qi chatting in her mind.

"Hehe, host, um, it seems, I didn't pay attention and mistakenly sent you to the wrong world."

Xiao Qi tried hard to conceal its inner panic and unease with an air of casual cheerfulness.

"Ah ah ah, I don't know how this happened! There was an accident during binding, for sure. I was hit by an unknown energy surge and suddenly shut down.

I even thought it was because my host was too powerful! Even a system shutdown couldn't affect my shaking hand from excitement!

When I woke up and found you in this new world, I even thought I had successfully teleported while unconscious!"

"Wow, what should I do now? Oh no, would the Main God take me back and destroy me for a major work mistake? I don't want to die!"

"Say it out loud."

"Ugh, you're so annoying."

Abby was indeed very angry, but she couldn't possibly bother the "system," an entity that could almost be considered supernatural.

Just hearing that it was an error that brought her here, she hoped she could be sent back to her original world or maybe to another one.

She really didn't want to fight zombies!

Who knew that Xiao Qi would start muttering to itself right after.

Hearing Abby's words, Xiao Qi finally reacted, realizing that it had inadvertently spoken its innermost thoughts out loud.

When it first woke up, it was excited and eager to greet its host, only to find that the world it sent its host to seemed to have a big problem.

Panicked, it hurriedly confirmed and realized that it was indeed the end-of-the-world world, and it immediately sought solutions.

The result? None!

We must complete the world mission to leave this world with our host.

"Um, host? You're not angry, are you?"

"...If I'm angry, can you compensate me or send me away from this world directly?"

"Waaaa, no, you'd better not be angry, host."

Abby took a deep breath, feeling that Xiao Qi's intelligence seemed quite low.

"Don't whimper. Tell me first, is there really no way to leave this world?"

"Not really!" Xiao Qi immediately perked up, "As long as we complete our mission in this world, we can leave, right?"

"You mean the task 'End the Apocalypse and Return to the Original World'?"

"Yes, yes, yes, that's the one! Host, you're so smart! I didn't even say it, and you already know! Host, you're amazing!" Xiao Qi went on a rant of compliments.

"What about the strategy you mentioned this morning?" Abby remained indifferent.

"Well..." Xiao Qi hesitated slightly, but upon seeing Abby's cold face, it suddenly shuddered and blurted out everything.

"I'm actually a strategy system. My original task was for the host to conquer various high-quality gods and goddesses in the mission world, gain favorability, and the more favorability gained, the greater the rewards the host could get from the system."

"And now?"

"Now... it's the same... just with ending the apocalypse added to the mission..."

Xiao Qi watched Abby's expression nervously, feeling guilty inside.

Abby's face remained expressionless, her gaze slightly colder, but inside, she really wanted to drag Xiao Qi out and give it a beating.

This task was undoubtedly unavoidable, whether for returning home or for survival in this world.
