Chapter 5 - Zombie

And she's being so polite, would that mean she doesn't see me as a true friend yet?

Maybe not. After all, they had only just met today.

Looks like I'll have to try harder to make Abby my good friend sooner!

I must take good care of her in the future to prevent her from being deceived! Thinking of this, Mai'er stole a glance at Abby's pale face and slender figure. In his heart, he silently made another resolution.

This is definitely a good person, Mai'er concluded in his heart.

Abby leisurely tasted her dinner, unaware that in Mai'er's eyes, her image had silently transformed into that of a naive and easily deceived good person.

When they left the cafeteria, night had already fallen, with stars sprinkling the dark sky.

Returning to the dorm, all around was still pitch-black and silent.

Abby, not wanting to meddle in others' affairs, decided against looking for her two roommates and went to bed. However, Mai'er seemed a bit worried.

'Why haven't they come back yet? Could something have happened to them? Should we go look for them?'

'They're probably still on campus. Isn't our school's security system supposed to be reliable? They should be fine,' Abby replied, somewhat helplessly.

'Besides, we haven't even seen their faces or know their contact information. How can we find them?' Mai'er said and scratched his head a bit embarrassingly, as if just realizing something. 'You're right. I guess I was just excited about starting school and wanted to meet our new roommates as soon as possible.'

Other than weekends, students were not allowed to leave school premises. Just like what Abby said, they should be perfectly safe.

Maybe they went out just to wander around,' Mai'er thought and gradually gave up the idea of looking for the roommates.

Abby also secretly heaved a sigh of relief.

She didn't want to go out so late to look for two strangers, especially since her room was still filled with many unpacked items.

Before dinner, they had only acknowledged their presence to the room and casually dropped off luggage. Mai'er's belongings were simple, but Abby's were problematic for her, and thinking about the things in her luggage that, if seen, might reveal her identity, Abby declined Mai'er's offer to help.

Once she packed up everything and looked at the time again, it was already eleven o'clock. According to the communicator, they needed to gather in the school auditorium at seven o'clock in the morning.

After an exhausting day, Abby's original body's poor condition was a heavy burden. But it was only because of her strong willpower that she was able to get up and get ready for bed, planning to wash up quickly and head to her room.

Just then, the dormitory door clicked open, and a shadow quietly entered the dormitory.

Abby was startled, but before she could speak, the person had already closed the door and turned on the light.

Seeing Abby standing in the middle of the living room, they paused for a moment.

Abby was wearing a shorts and a T-shirt, with slippers on her feet, looking rather casual.

With wet hair hanging down, she held a towel in one hand and stared blankly at the person before her.

"Silly...," the person evaluated inwardly.

Without another word, he nodded at Abby as a greeting before turning back into his room.

Was this one of her roommates? Only after the person's door closed did Abby come back to her senses.

She glanced at the name tag on the door.

The name read... Elliot? Quite curious.

Upon first meeting Elliot, Abby formed a similar impression.

That night, Abby's sleep was restless.

In her dreams, she relived the day she was kidnapped. Her kidnapper held her, and a sharp blade was pressed against her carotid artery.

As her hand trembled slightly, a shallow cut leaked blood.

She heard the kidnapper roaring loudly, but it was muffled and unclear to Abby, as if separated by a layer of fog.

Looking outside through the closed shop door, she saw a dense crowd, countless cameras and cell phone cameras pointing at her, yet no one spoke, contrasting sharply with the kidnapper's roars.

Unconsciously, a knife appeared in her hand, and it seemed she instinctively knew that no one would save her.

With a quick movement, she stabbed the kidnapper.

The pain made the kidnapper loosen his grip, and Abby took the opportunity to break free and tried to flee from the dangerous man.

But when she turned to run, the crowd outside suddenly stopped moving. Dropping their phones and cameras, they stood still, staring at Abby with lifeless eyes as she moved.

That dead silence made Abby feel as if all oxygen had been drained from the air as a suffocating sensation overwhelmed her.

Her intuition told her something was wrong, but her body refused to obey her will.

Taking a step back, she stumbled and fell to the ground as she tried to escape through the back door.

Just as she struggled to get up, the crowd outside suddenly erupted like a tide.

The rotting change began with their eyes and spread across their faces, eventually encompassing their entire bodies.

Gray and decaying flesh oozed a filthy, foul-smelling liquid through cracks, bulging eyes, and uncontrollable drooling from mouths filled with hoarse roars.

This change happened in an instant.

All the once-living people became twisted and gruesome zombies the moment Abby fell.
