Chapter 26 - An Incomplete Awakening.

Diane just glared at Diego, while he fiddled with the letter. 'That is most definitely a woman's perfume'. Diane thought. It was culture to spray a bit of your perfume on a letter when writing to friends and family, especially when you are far away from them. "What?" Diego asked her, when he caught her glaring at him. "It's nothing." Diane said, immediately turning to her paper. "If it's okay with you, can you tell me who that is?" Diane asked, feeling weird for some reason. He couldn't possibly have a lover, could he? "Oh, this person.. She is a friend of mine. I haven't seen her since we were kids." Diego said with a smile. "Are you just friends?" Diane asked quietly. "I am sorry, were you saying something?" Diego asked. "No, it's nothing." Diane said. But of it was really nothing, why was she feeling bad about it? "I can't believe Lucille Is coming back to Agerintia, after all those years." Diego said, smiling like someone who had received the best gift of his life. "This time, I hope she is Here to stay." He said. " You sound terribly fond of her." Diane said, a little bit irritated. "Well, she was one of my only friends, afterall." Diego admitted. "We flowed quite well together." He stated. "And, is she aware that your family possesses magic?" Diane asked, while hurriedly scribbling on a paper. "She also has magic too, so of course she will be aware. Fire element." Diego said. "Oh right, and she is also related to the to the imperial family." Diego said, while slouching on the couch. "Don't sit like that, it's bad for your back." Diane told him. "Fine, alright." Diego replied, sitting upright. "If you are tired, you can go to the room, you know." Diane told him. "Filling up this documents and correspondence is quite easy, and besides, I am almost done." Diane told him. "I am not.." He began, but he instantly tries to suppress a yawn. "Diego. You might have magic. But you are still human. There is a limit to everything." Diane told him strictly. Diego blinked. "You are going to end up being an overly strict mother. I kinda feel sorry for your kids." Diego said. "Stop teasing me!" Diane yelled, the tip of her ears turning red. Diego chuckled silently at her outburst. Wait a second.. Has Diego ever laughed in front of her before? Did he ever talk to her so informally? Is this what Dorothy meant? Come to think about it, he looked really good when he laughed. He should try laughing some more. "Okay, I am heading in.." Diego began, but amidst his happy-drunk state, he ended up tipping over the table where the bowl of soup was. "Hey careful!" Diane exclaimed, springing to her feet. How it happened, she couldn't satisfactorily explain, both the bowl and the glass of water came crashing to the ground, along with the table of course. But as soon as the water splashed onto the ground, it came back up into the air in the form of water droplets, and those droplets moved and began to form a circumference around her one, outstretched wrist. Diane stood motionless, as the water droplets continued to revolve around her wrist. She was In awe. Even though it was just water, it looked... really pretty. "I heard a noise outside! Are you...?" Theodore, who just happened to be passing by, and hearing the commotion inside, hurriedly barged in without knocking, only to be met with a spectacular sight. "Oh.." Diane, who momentarily got distracted by Theodore's intrusion, lost her focus, and the water droplets fell to the ground in the most unfashionable way. "I will... Get Natasha and my mother right away." Theodore said, after regaining from his shock. "Diane you.." Diego began, staring at her all wide eyed. "I am sorry! It happened so suddenly and I didn't mean to.." Diane began, but she was interrupted by a warm sensation on her head. "Silly girl, why are you apologizing?" Diego asked, as he stoked her hair. "I am just glad that you are alright. Most people don't come out of their initial awakening unscathed." Diego said. "Come on, let's head downstairs." He told her.

"Sister, I really mean it, you should have seen it, it was so spectacular and.." Theodore was rambling non-stop, waving his arms around like a scare crow trying desperately to stop the birds from eating of the field. "That's enough, Theodore. Honestly don't you have any sort of restraint on that tongue of yours?" Natasha dismissed him. "Honestly, how did I end up having someone like you as my brother?" She added. "You are so harsh. Mom..." Theodore whinded "That's enough, you two." Maria said, her hand on her forehead, trying to avoid a headache. Even as adults, they still fought like cats and dogs. "You... Brat! That's what I get for spoiling you!" Natasha exclaimed, looking at Theodre with a murderous glint. Maria sighed. She didn't even want to know what her son told his sister. She glanced upstairs. Perfect timing."Diego, Diane, I see you both are here." Maria said, as loudly as possible. Natasha, who was about to strangle her brother, had no other option but to Halt In her tracks. "Diane dear, sit down. Are you feeling dizzy, nauseous or exhausted?" Maria asked, and when Diane did, Maria immediately felt her pulse, while Diego stood beside her. "No, I don't feel any of those things... um.. am I supposed too?" Diane asked, feeling a little nervous. "That's strange." Maria muttered. "What element did you awaken again?" Maria asked. "Water." Diego, Diane and Theodore said simultaneously. "I see. Did you by any chance, see a fair skinned, somewhat pale, woman with dark blue hair?" She asked again, emphatically. "No, I didn't see anyone." Diane replied. "No one at all?" Maria asked again. Diane shook her head. Maria exhaled. "Well, I am just glad that you are not hurt." Maria said, giving her a warm smile. "Diego?" Diane looked behind her, her eyes seeking an explanation. "You are fine, Diane. Your awakening is just incomplete, that's all." Diego said. "An Incomplete Awakening? That's very rare." Theodore said as he pondered on something. "Does that mean my powers are weak?" She asked. "Not necessarily. It means that it needs time to develop. In the meantime, you need to learn how to control your powers. Natasha." Diego said. "You called?" Natasha asked, putting on a seemingly perfect demeanor. "It seems like you have a new student." Diego said with a smile. "So please.." He began, but he suddenly felt dizzy. "Are you okay?" Natasha asked, while the others gave him looks of concern. "I am fine. Just exhausted." He said. "I will be resting in my room of you need me." He said. "Take care." Diane told him. "And Theodore..." "Yes?"Theodore stood straight immediately "You better behave yourself. You haven't forgotten how I discipline you, have you?" Diego asked, glaring at Theodore. "Of course not, Sir! I am very Sorry, Sir!" Theodore said, Bowing as if he were receiving orders from a superior. 'That kid... is really something else.' Diego thought, as he ascended the stairs.
