Nate stumbled out of the villa, his lips broken and his nose dripped with blood. Nathan had dealt a great deal with him and he felt like he was on the verge of death. Nate had nowhere to go, and he sat on the sidewalk, weak, he didn't know where else to turn.
But then he swiftly took out his phone and called Denis, his friend was the only one he could rant to.
"Hello," Nate said as soon as the call went through. "You were right." He couldn't help but confirm the cheating allegations.
"I told you so. Don't forget to wire my money." Denis was very concerned about the bet but then Nate wanted to ask if he could come over. However, he was tongue-tied, seeing how Denis didn't even care about his well-being.
A few seconds later, he ended the call but then he heard footsteps behind him.
"Mr. Nate?" A voice called out to him from behind and Nate turned around to see Lucas, his parent-in-law's butler. "What are you doing here alone? Quick, let me take you in."
Lucas rushed to take Nate up, as he wanted to bring him back into the villa, however, Nate shook his head, "No… take me… to the mansion." He would rather go to Alice's parents than go back into that villa. Nathan would kill him if he appeared there.
"Alright," Lucas answered and helped Nate up. Though he was curious about what really happened to Nate, it wasn't in his place to speak.
Soon, they got to the mansion and Alice's parents were standing right outside the mansion, immediately they saw Nate, they gasped in shock.
"What happened…" Mrs. Jones rushed toward the butler, taking his place, and then led Nate inside while Mr. Jones followed behind. They were truly concerned about Nate and even ordered the butler to prepare some painkiller medicine.
Nate was comforted by this and he felt loved. It was nice that they still cared about him and didn't push him away. He was hopeful that they would consider his plight and talk some sense into their daughter.
"What happened, Nate? The butler said he found you on the sidewalk."
"Where is your wife?"
Nate let out a sigh as he rested his back on the couch, a tear slipped from his eye and he wiped it off slowly.
"Alice… Alice said she wanted to divorce me. I met her in bed with another man, my cousin…" Nate continued to narrate the whole story and even told them about the part where Nathan pushed him out of the villa.
He felt like they were his only hope and if he lost the marriage, then he would lose everything and his job. He still needed to send money back to his parents. Where would he get the money from? He was married into the Jones family and he did that willingly because he grew to love Alice and he also wanted to take care of his parents.
"That's sad…" Mr. Jones spoke up after listening to Nate's story.
"Can you talk to Alice? I am willing to–"
"I am sorry, we can't." Mrs. Jones spoke up this time.
"What?" Nate was confused.
"According to your story, you met her in bed with your cousin. Why do you think Alice would choose to be with Nathan?" She asked and Nate only looked on in confusion.
"I will answer that for you." She smirked, her eyes twinkling with mockery, "It's because you are a weak, spineless dude. Look at Nathan, he has the ability to bring us benefits. He is one of the richest bachelors in the city."
"He is powerful, one of the most gifted since birth whereas you have nothing to show forth in all the years you have lived."
"Tell me, Nate, would you let your daughter continue to be with a good-for-nothing when there is someone better out there who wants her?"
Nate was hurt by her words but then he muttered, "Why then did you accept me to be her husband? You didn't think I was useless before now?"
"Of course, we did." Mr. Jones chuckled, and then continued, "But then I will do anything for my daughter. She wanted you, so we supported her. Now, she doesn't want you anymore, and we support her fully."
"But-" Nate was about to protest.
"We won't speak of this matter anymore, Nate. We expect you to sign the divorce papers quickly and you can leave. Do not expect any divorce settlement, you have mooched off us enough already."
Alice's parents had said their final words and they stood there, leaving Nate dumbstruck. He didn't know what to think, his head was blank but then his heart ached tremendously. He wasn't even angry anymore, he was hateful. He felt insulted. All this while, he was nothing and they made him feel welcomed, whereas it was all false.
Soon, he was escorted out of the mansion, his head downcast. The butler looked at him with pity, "Mr. Nate, do you need help with packing your things in the villa?"
"No, thanks," Nate answered, with a stoic voice. He didn't want any more of that pitiful look he got and he quickly got out of the mansion. Even though he was weak, he didn't want anybody's help.
However, as he stepped out, he frowned seeing two police cars before the mansion. Three hefty police officers got out as soon as they saw him and walked up to him.
Nate took a step back, wondering what they wanted, "What's going on?"
"You are Nate Collins, right?"
"Yes."
"Alright. You are under arrest for the murder of a couple named, James Collins and Genie Collins. You have the right to remain silent and anything you say or do shall be used against you in the court of law."
"What?" Nate was shocked. "What do you mean I killed my parents? Are you out of your mind?" He felt like he was going crazy. "They are the only people I have got."
"You should have thought of that…" The policeman snickered, "…before you tore their hearts out."
