Chapter 9 - The Footage

"It's the footage of the accident. Our people have gone to every place that had camera where it could've captured the accident. All of them were either off at the time and didn't capture anything."

Tyler frowned at the answer.

"Did they ask if anyone came before them?"

"They did. All of them said that nobody came before them."

"None?"

"That's what our people reported."

'Weird' Tyler thought. After all, at least the police should have been there to investigate.

"Who was the other party involved in the accident?" He asked.

"It's the youngest son of the Clangton family."

"Clangton as in the Neblux?" Tyler questioned.

"Yes."

Neblux was the most popular social platform in the Eastern Blue Nation and had many cooperations with the companies under the Cacian Business umbrella. They could be considered one of the most influential family in the Dalania City, as they had their roots in politics.

Assistant Lou had heard the previous explanation of the young miss and decided to add further details.

"The youngest son is well known in the circle for being a lover of car race."

"Car Race?"

'That explain the speed!' Maevie thought as she exclaimed out loud.

"If it's like that then, the disappearance of the footage is understandable."

"Then…. they are covering up for their son by through Maevie into the fire?" Nora couldn't help but complain.

Tyler was looking at his sister who looked like she was swallowing her grievances. It was odd to see her behaving like this. He was more used to her whining and complaining.

Before he had a bit of doubt that she could be lying. But now that the situation had unfolded as such, he had no more suspicion.

"The Clangton Family is a tough opponent." Assistant Lou remarked.

"Hmm…"

Tyler raised his hand and patted Maevie. The girl froze like she was struck by a lightning. It felt like it had been decades since her Big Brother had patted her like this. The twins had always been harsh to her since she was a kid.

But her Big Brother, even if he looked like he was forced, would hold her hand when they walked. He never said he loved her, but would pat her head with a cold face whenever she cried.

All of that stopped when she got caught messing with Sienne. And now, to once again feel the gentle pat even with the straight as a stone face her brother was giving her, she was filled with warmth. Something that she never felt in all worlds she had been to.

But despite the comfort she felt through his warm pat, she could not shake off the tension that was raising in her head. Previously, she thought that she could easily clear her name by uploading the footage. But now she was informed that there was no footage available, how could she not fear.

'System. Is there anyway to restore the deleted footage?'

[THE SYSTEM CANNOT RECOVER THINGS THAT HAD BEEN DELETED FROM THE STORAGE OR CLOUD]

'Then can you search for other source. There must be at least one.'

[SEARCHING FOR THE ACCIDENT FOOTAGE]

[LOADING…..]

The system remained on loading for a while before a notification came.

[A FOOTAGE FOUND]

Maevie was delighted to hear that there was a footage.

'Can you directly download it?'

[ASSERTIVE. BUT IT IS SUGGUESTED TO ATTAIN THE FOOTAGE THROUGH PHYSICAL MEANS TO NOT AROUSE SUSPICION]

'Yes. I'll do that. But download the footage first.'

Maevie feared that the only footage left would be discovered by the other party and be deleted again like the rest. That would leave her with no evidence to clear her name. And since the government authority seem to support the Clangton, if the only evidence was lost, it would take years for her to prove herself of being innocent.

And if she wanted to continue her career, which she definitely did, she needed to prove her innocence before the fire burned the little chance she had to ashes. She had just gotten a new chance… A new life… A brand-new beginning… She did not want to end it before she could even start it…

'What quality of dash cam would produce a 4K clarity footage?'

[IT IS POSSIBLE THROUGH THE REFINING PROCESS OF THE SYSTEM]

'Whatever. 720 p then.'

[DOWNLOADING…. 2%..... 5%.... 9%.....]

While the system was downloading the footage, Maevie read thought the properties of the footage. It was from a dash cam installed in a car. Then replayed her memories with the help of the system to locate the car and its details.

Meanwhile Nora was panicking. If the situation was unsolved, not only would Maevie be subjected to punishment by the law. But she would also be banned from the industry for sure this time. She already had too much hater and the incident was only breeding more. And she voiced out her worries.

"What do we do now? If there are no evidence to show that you are innocent, you'll be banned for sure this time."

Maevie bit her lips as she looked at her handsome brother in front of her. The stoic look given by her brother did not quaver her emotion.

"Big Brother…"

Tyler gave her his attention.

"I… I'm not lying. I really did not cause the accident."

"Hmm…" The man hummed in reply. "I know."

"That… Would it create a problem if we opposed the Clangtons directly? I think they even have the police behind them."

Maevie's concern was in the right direction. With how the police responded to him, it was evident that they wanted Maevie to be blamed as the faulter. And considering how the Clangtons took actions without considering to contact the Cacia family first, they either thought that the family would not care enough for Maevie to oppose them. Or they were outrightly opposing them.

It was most possibly the first option. After all the whole Cacia family had never officially introduced Maevie as a part of the family and never cleared up her names before.

"Indeed. The Casia Group have a lot of co-operation with the Clangtons for many purposes other than just business. It would create a lot of troubles if we face the Clangtons head on." Assistant Lou replied in his boss's stead.

"Specially, when we don't have the evidence."

Taking the chance, Maevie pretended that she remembered something.

"Big Brother. I think I saw a car parked not far away form place where the accident occurred. Maybe it had a dashcam on it."

"Really? Do you remember the details?"

Maevie pretended think hard as she closed her eyes, frowning a little.

"If I remember correctly, it was parked in front of a café. It was a dark navy-blue car. I don' remember the model. But I think had a weird pink cartoon painted on it."

Thankfully, the car had distinct features that would not require her to tell the number of the plate. Otherwise, it would become a seed of suspicion.
