The classroom was quiet, the only sounds being the soft scratching of pens on paper and the occasional rustle of turning pages. The dim yellow light cast a warm glow on Lin Xi's desk, where she rested her chin in her hand, her pen twirling absentmindedly. Her gaze would often drift to the corner of the room, where Su Feiyan sat.
Su Feiyan was quietly seated, his posture straight and focused, his fingers lightly brushing over the Braille pages of his book. The murmurs of the surrounding students seemed to have no effect on him; his world was calm and solitary, like it was separated by a thin veil, one that made it difficult for anyone to approach.
Lin Xi stared at him for a while, lost in thought, until a soft nudge from a nearby classmate snapped her back to reality. "What are you thinking about?" they teased softly. She quickly lowered her head, trying to hide her blush as she went back to her work.
When the bell signaling the end of class rang, breaking the silence, Lin Xi hurriedly packed her bag, her eyes catching sight of Su Feiyan, still sitting in the same spot, unaware that most of the class had already dispersed. She hesitated for a moment, then mustered up the courage to reach into the bottom of her bag and pull out a pack of QQ candy.
Afterwards, the scene continues with their interaction:
After class ended, Lin Xi took advantage of the quiet moment in the classroom and, gathering her courage, walked up to Su Feiyan's desk. She lightly tapped the corner of the desk, her voice wavering slightly. "Su… Su Feiyan?"
Su Feiyan turned his head, surprised to hear her voice. "What's up?"
Lin Xi nervously handed him the candy, her voice quick and unsure. "I… I brought QQ candy. It's really good. You can try it if you want."
Su Feiyan hesitated, caught off guard by the sudden offer. He slowly reached out but didn't immediately take the candy, instead lowering his eyes and saying, "QQ candy?"
"Mm, it's really good!" Lin Xi said quickly, pressing the candy toward him. "You should try it. Maybe you'll like it."
Su Feiyan's fingers brushed against the candy bag but paused, lowering his gaze again. "I… haven't eaten QQ candy in a long time."
Lin Xi blinked, surprised by his answer. "Why not? Don't you like it?"
Su Feiyan gently touched the surface of the desk, then, after a brief silence, began to speak slowly. "When I was in the orphanage, every New Year, we would get a big gift box with a small pack of QQ candy inside. Candy was really precious back then. Every time, the younger kids would take mine, and I didn't have the courage to fight for it. I always thought… it was fine."
Lin Xi's eyes widened as she listened, her hand tightening around the candy bag, her lips moving but no words coming out.
Su Feiyan let out a light sigh, continuing, "Then one year, my piano teacher noticed. She bought me a pack of QQ candy as a New Year's gift. That was the first time I got to eat QQ candy, and it was so sweet. It made me feel… like I was someone special to someone."
His voice trailed off, almost as if lost in a memory. "But after I was adopted, I never ate QQ candy again. I guess it just reminded me of things I'd rather not remember… some good things, and some not so good things. So, I decided not to touch it anymore."
Lin Xi listened quietly, feeling a sharp pang in her heart. She looked down at the candy bag in her hands, then, after a brief pause, spoke softly, her words filled with sincerity. "But now… you can try it. This candy isn't from the past, it's… it's from now. I brought it just for you."
Su Feiyan seemed to hesitate, his fingers hovering over the candy bag for a moment.
He finally reached out and picked up a piece of orange-flavored candy. As he popped it into his mouth, the familiar fruity sweetness filled his senses. He lowered his head slightly, his voice barely above a whisper. "It's really sweet."
Lin Xi smiled, her tone light but playful. "You've probably had a lot of candy before, but I've never heard anyone say it's this sweet."
Su Feiyan gave a small, almost imperceptible smile, his mood softening under the warmth of her words.
Lin Xi then shyly offered him the candy bag again, her voice steady and genuine. "If you like it, you can always ask me for more."
Su Feiyan froze for a moment, her words catching him off guard. He lowered his head, gently squeezing the candy bag as he replied, "Okay… thank you."
The breeze outside gently swept through the window, bringing a slight chill, but the atmosphere in the classroom had warmed, the soft light creating a quiet space where two hearts seemed just a little closer.
