Friday always passes by so quickly.
Although Su Feiyan can't see, he can feel the excitement in the air. All day, everyone seems unusually full of energy, up until the last class. Even though the math teacher is still explaining problems, Su Feiyan can hear the increasing sound of books being flipped and quiet conversations around him. Clearly, everyone's thoughts have already flown to the upcoming weekend.
Ding—
With the sound of the school bell, the students in the classroom became restless, like birds being set free. The noise of chairs scraping against the floor filled the room. Although Su Feiyan still sat in his seat, he could feel the change in the atmosphere, and the air seemed to become much lighter.
But then, the following sentence pressed the pause button on the joy.
"Class leader, please distribute the homework sheets," said the math teacher, adding, "Complete it over the weekend, and we'll discuss it next week."
The classroom instantly fell into silence. The excited atmosphere from earlier was instantly shattered.
"Su Feiyan, I'll send your homework to your email. If you have any questions, you can ask your deskmate—she's really good at math," the teacher said in a gentle tone before leaving the classroom, leaving behind the shadow of unfinished weekend homework.
Just as a few students stood up, preparing to leave, the classroom door opened again, and Teacher Chen, the homeroom teacher, walked in.
"Classmates, I have a few announcements. Don't worry, I'll be quick—I know you're all waiting for the weekend," Teacher Chen said with a smile as he walked to the front of the classroom. Teachers' "quick" announcements are usually not to be trusted! You've probably heard, "I'll finish quickly, then we'll have class break," but ten minutes later, there's still no break!
The classroom quieted down again, and everyone reluctantly sat back in their seats.
"First of all, next week we will have the first mock college entrance exam." Teacher Chen began scanning the faces of the students. "Don't be too nervous, it's just to understand your level, do your best. But I must remind you, from now on, we will have a small test every week, so everyone needs to work hard!"
A low murmur of discussion spread through the classroom, and some students furrowed their brows slightly.
"There's one more thing," Teacher Chen raised his voice slightly, "If your test results aren't good… I might have to change the seating arrangements."
The classroom immediately erupted in whispers.
"Teacher, no!" one student protested in a low voice. "We've been deskmates for two years, we're really close!"
"Yeah, exactly…" other students murmured in agreement.
Su Feiyan didn't join the discussion, but quietly sat there, feeling Lin Xi gently tap his arm.
"I don't want to change seats, how about you?" Lin Xi whispered.
Su Feiyan shook his head. "I don't want to either."
Teacher Chen looked at the students' reactions and smiled slightly. "I know you don't want to change seats, so you need to work hard! I hope that after the exam next week, you'll still be sitting in your current seats."
"Second announcement." Teacher Chen cleared his throat. "Next week, there will be the new student welcome party—you all know about it, right?"
"Of course!" a boy stood up and responded. "But isn't it usually the case that upperclassmen don't have to participate?"
"Haha, that's true," Teacher Chen nodded. "But this year, the principal has decided to let the upperclassmen join in too. After all, it's not always about pressure, sometimes you need to relax a bit."
There was a slight murmur in the classroom, and someone muttered quietly, "Relax? Sounds more like we have more work…"
Teacher Chen pretended not to hear and continued, "If anyone wants to show off their talents, you can sign up with a representative from the cultural committee. Oh, and by the way, Su Feiyan—" She suddenly turned toward him. "I heard you can play the piano, is that right?"
The classroom fell silent, and all eyes were on Su Feiyan.
"Really?" someone asked in surprise.
Su Feiyan froze for a moment but quickly nodded calmly.
"Impressive!" Teacher Chen smiled with satisfaction. "Stop hiding it, this is a great opportunity to showcase your talent!"
Su Feiyan smiled slightly. He didn't mind playing the piano, but he never thought of it as something to boast about. To him, it was just something he did, not something worth showing off. But since the teacher brought it up, he didn't want to disappoint her or his classmates.
"One last thing—this really is the last one!" Teacher Chen waved her hand with a smile. "Starting next week, the school will begin offering Sunday tutoring classes and evening self-study sessions. The Sunday tutoring is from 3 PM to 5 PM, and the evening self-study is from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Evening self-study is not mandatory—if you don't want to attend, you need your parents' consent."
Su Feiyan couldn't help but think, what kind of freedom is this? Which parent would refuse to let their child attend?
Lin Xi whispered to him, "Looks like there's no hope for the weekend."
Su Feiyan silently nodded, quietly agreeing with her unspoken complaint.
"Alright, that's all for today." Teacher Chen closed her notebook. "Have a great weekend, everyone!" She said as she left the classroom, but paused at the door. "Oh, Su Feiyan, come here for a moment."
The hallway was very quiet, and their footsteps echoed softly.
"How's everything going? How are you adjusting?" Teacher Chen turned and asked with concern.
"Everything's good, the classmates are all kind, and the teachers are very patient," Su Feiyan answered.
Teacher Chen breathed a sigh of relief. "That's great to hear. If you have any problems, feel free to come to me anytime. No one's giving you trouble, right?"
"No, everyone is great," Su Feiyan answered sincerely.
"Great, that's great." Teacher Chen nodded and gently patted Su Feiyan's shoulder. "Alright, go back now, have a good weekend, and good luck on the exam."
When Su Feiyan returned to the classroom, Lin Xi was resting her head on the desk, but as soon as he walked in, she immediately raised her head.
"I don't want to change seats," she said softly.
"I don't want to either," Su Feiyan replied with a smile.
Lin Xi nodded firmly. "Then let's work hard together."
"Deal," Su Feiyan said calmly and firmly.
