Jovana and Caspian were traveling back in his carriage, sitting next to each other. "What are you smiling about?" Caspian asked, his voice much warmer than the cold, monotone voice he exhibited in public.
"I was just thinking that a couple of weeks ago I would have been terrified to be on this ride," Jovana answered.
"Terrified?" Caspian repeated, then chuckled as he said, "That seems a little excessive. I have always been quite nice to you, haven't I?"
"Yes, but I was sure that you knew about the whole Serendipity operation and that you were actually escorting me to jail," Jovana said, and Caspian nodded, his smile slowly fading.
"That's what secrets do…. They drive people away from each other. I don't want secrets between us,"
"Me neither," Jovana said as she laid her head against his shoulder. "Especially now that we are alone in the world."
