Fu Xiang blinked harshly as his eyes tired to adjust to the irritating brightness of the room. The beeping sound of a monitor filled his ears as he choked on a painful breath, the smell of hypochlorites filling his nose, a smell he was all too familiar with.
The beeping sound continued, loud and steady. The white ceiling settled into view as his eyes adjusted to sight.
I am alive.
The thought filled him with fear. He thought he had escaped the torture of the Zhao family. That he could be reunited with his family.
The beeping sound increased, as his eyes roamed the room in a frenzy.
White walls, white ceilings. Everything was white. Just like the cage he was locked in.
Fu Xiang's heart thudded painfully in his chest, the beeping sound growing louder.
I am alive. I am still in that hell hole.
Fu Xiang gasped, he could hear hurried footsteps rushing towards him as someone gripped his arm.
"Young Master Feng, Young Master Feng are you alright." The voice was hurried as they spoke, sensing no response, the person hurried away.
From the corner of his eyes, Fu Xiang saw the white robes, the person's back was turned towards him, but he could make out a syringe in her gloved hand.
No, I won't let these monsters experiment on me again.
He ripped out the drip connected to his hand, he paid no heed to the blood gushing out of the opened wound as he stood on unsteady feet.
Fu Xiang shook the dizziness from his head, his dark eyes trained on the nurse who was still blissfully unaware of his presence. He grabbed a fruit knife from the fruit tray placed beside the bed. He couldn't trust his currently weak body to overpower the nurse.
Fu Xiang approached her with slow and measured steps, just when he was about to lunge at her, she turned, light brown pupils blowing wild in fear and confusion.
"Young Master Feng." Her voice was tentative as she glanced at the knife in his hand, her eyes dropping to his bloodied hand. "Oh my God, you're bleeding." She yelled.
Her momentary distraction was all Fu Xiang needed. He lunged at her, pushing her backwards, the knife falling from his grip, her body stumbling into the table as he strangled her neck.
"You..ng Ma..at..er Fen..g what..t a..re yo..u doi..n..g." She groaned, her face red as she struggled to breathe.
"Where's Zhao An Na?" Fu Xiang's voice was raw, as though he had not spoken in ages, he struggled to even his breathing, black spots dancing in his eyes.
"I don't know." She cried, her face turning redder by the second.
Fu Xiang's anger flared, his grip on her neck tightening. "Still protecting him even now. Tell me where he is." He yelled shoving her into the table.
She gasped, unable to answer as she struggled to breathe, her face wet with tears.
"Where is he? Where is that bastard?" Fu Xiang yelled. "Tell me or I swear to God I will kill you." His grip tightening further.
"Sto..p, ple..as..e." She cried, her eyes rolling back.
Suddenly Fu Xiang felt an electric shock in his body, he let out an agonized scream, his grip weakened, as his expression turned slack, he collapsed onto the floor.
Now free, the nurse coughed and rubbed her sore neck, she breathed harshly, desperately filling her lungs with air.
She took in Fu Xiang's unconscious body, confusion and doubt swimming in her eyes, one moment he was strangling her, the next he was unconscious on the floor. She caressed her neck in phantom pain and dashed out of the room.
******
Fu Xiang observed his surroundings in confusion. He was standing in the middle of a room, or at least he assumed it to be. Everything was covered with fog, even the ground he stood on felt soft as though he was standing on a pillow. A huge mirror occupied the left side of the room.
"I apologize for the way I brought you here, but if I hadn't interfered you would have killed that lady." An automated voice filled the room.
Fu Xiang whirled around so fast he was shocked his neck wasn't broken, his gaze locking on a small steel orb floating in the middle of the room.
"What are you?" He pointed an accusatory finger at the orb.
"I am a system." The answer was swift.
Fu Xiang stumbled back and gripped his head. "I am going crazy." He laughed.
"You are not going crazy Fu Xiang. I know that this is a lot to take in, but I will explain." The orb spoke.
"Is this some new sick plot of the Zhao's? A new way to toy with me?" Fu Xiang paid the orb no attention, muttering to himself.
"Fu Xiang, this is real, not some plan. You died." The orb was firm.
Fu Xiang's eyes snapped to the orb. "I didn't die, I am alive." He yelled.
"You died when Zhao An Na fed you to the cannibals."
"I don't understand, how am I still alive?" Fu Xiang was confused.
"Let me introduce myself." The orb floated forward as though puffing out it's non-existent chest. "I am a system 20644, a sub part of the main system, my job is to carry out tasks delegated by the main system." The pride in it's tone made Fu Xiang roll his eyes.
"I am not any closer to understanding." Fu Xiang rolled his eyes.
"The job of the main system is to keep the balance of the world and send all souls to their rightful place." The system explained. "When a person dies unjustly, their soul is filled with negative energy, this energy can be handled by the main system, but sometimes, a person dies very horribly, their souls are distorted by negative energy, accepting such a soul will corrupt the main system and that will affect the balance of the world."
"In order to avoid distorted souls, such souls are giving a second chance at live, reborn in a body of someone who has died recently. This is were systems come in, our job is to study your negative energy level and guide to free yourself off your past grievances and live a new and happy life."
"So in summary, because I died horribly, I have been giving a new life in the body of someone else and your job is to make sure I let go of all hatred and anger." Fu Xiang arched a brow.
"One more thing, you are not allowed to kill anyone."
"Wait, you mean I can't kill Zhao An Na?"
"No."
"I can't hurt him?"
"No."
"I can't wring the throat of that little bitch?"
"No. If you kill anyone, your soul will be destroyed. The main system gave you this live it can take it away just as easily."
"You are threatening me." Fu Xiang laughed.
"I am not. But your soul is very unstable and I am afraid without a reminder you might do something unhinged." The system clarified.
"I understand." Fu Xiang replied after a tense silence.
"Great, you understand. Now let me give you a preview of your new body. Your name is Feng Mei Hi, you are an omega, sole heir to Feng corporations, you...
"Wait, did you say heir to Feng corporations, the Feng corporations?"
"Yes, that is what I said." The system sounded annoyed by the unnecessary interruption.
"Not bad, for a shabby soul company." Fu Xiang laughed as he walked towards the mirror.
"We are not a shabby soul company. We are the keepers of balance, without us the world will be in chaos." The system spoke angrily, rushing to protect the reputation of all systems in the world.
"Sure." Fu Xiang drawled, his gaze fixed on the mirror were nurses and doctors crowded a person on an hospital bed. "What's this." He pointed at the mirror.
"This is the mirror of reality, it shows what is happening to your body in the real world". The orb floated next to him.
"So where am I?" Fu Xiang asked.
"This is your mental space, the only place you can see my physical form." The system said.
"Oh! It's empty." Fu Xiang noted.
"It is, but in here you are the king, you can control how you want it to look. Your wish, your command."
"Okay, let me try." Fu Xiang's eyes rolled in thought, immediately a soft white couch appeared.
"It is as soft as it looks." He laughed as he sank into the soft couch, with a snap of his fingers, a glass of glittering gold champagne appeared in his hand. "I could live like this." He sighed as he lifted the glass for a sip.
"So, I can't kill anyone, but if I drive someone so mad to the point they kill themselves, it doesn't count as killing them right?" Fu Xiang tapped the glass in his hand.
"No." The system's reply was hesitant. "You shouldn't let your hatred control you Fu Xiang. I know what you went through was horrible, but sometimes you have to let go."
"Let go?" Fu Xiang repeated as though the mere words were confusing. "I can't let go, you know nothing of what I have been through. I won't rest until I tear the Zhao's piece by piece, I will burn their empire to ashes right in front of them." Fu Xiang laughed, the sound dark and painful.
"But living in all that hatred is not something your family would have wanted." The system reasoned.
"Unfortunately they are gone, taken from me by those beasts. Whatever they wanted from me was buried with them." Fu Xiang replied coldly. "Your job is to make me live a new and happy life right? I can only be happy when I step on the bones of the Zhao family."
"Do whatever you want then, but no killing." The system conceded.
"Great." Fu Xiang smirked. "Now how do I get out of here system 206444?"
"Just decide to wake up."
"So do you have any other name, like a nickname perhaps, your name is quite a mouthful." Fu Xiang arched a brow in question.
"You can give me a name and you can also customize my looks, I am your system until your grievances are sorted." The system beamed with joy at the thought of a new body.
"So, how do I change your looks?" Fu Xiang smiled in mischief.
"Just think about what you want me to look like." It's voice was filled with anticipation.
"Alright." Fu Xiang smirked.
"Wait, did you turn me into a trash can." It was close to tears.
Fu Xiang squatted and patted it. "Yes, cause you're full of trash." He paused, lips curving into an evil smile. "And that brings me to your name, Xiao Li Ja Tong ".
"How heartless." Xiao Li Ja Tong cried in indignation.
"I know." Fu Xiang smiled. "See you later Xiao Li".
I am coming for you Zhao family.
