"You are a very big abomination!" Mr. Stewart barked at his face as soon as they entered the family living room.
"Father, I'm really sorry. I didn't know the gift content and it was given to me by Logan." He rattled out while rambling with words in other to defend himself.
"Are you not ashamed of yourself? A full-fledged man like you can't even save your wife's face in public. How were we conned to accept you as our son-in-law?" Mr. Stewart asked in irritation and regret.
"I…" He hasn't finished his statement when Logan cuts in.
"Father, aren't you tired of using words? This vagabond is going astray and we have to give him good punishment!" Logan hissed.
"He is right, honey. I don't even want him anymore in this mansion, he has always brought shame to us!" Mrs. Stewart adjourned.
Drew stared at the family he had saved and protected countless times in disbelief.
Because he looked wretched, they saw him as some quack and weren't giving him the attention he deserved.
At first, it was all a game but in between the lines, he thought he found love and a new home but everything changed overnight - just how it happened.
They were still in the heat of an argument when Diane walked out of their matrimonial bedroom with his close friend, Richard.
"Honey, what's going on here?" He almost lost it but tried to keep his cool.
Maybe he couldn't provide but putting an eye on his wife was part of his duty.
"What does it look like?" She scoffed, batting her lashes at him.
"I'm sending a responsible and wealthy man home rather than fooling myself with some counterfeit." She said curtly.
"But… what were you doing in our bedroom? It's not for guests." He reminded her politely.
"Guest?" Richard scoffed, approaching him.
"Man, you should take a second look and tell who's the guest here. If not for me, I doubt if this family would be able to save their face." Richard patted Drew's shoulder in mockery before leaving the room with Diane.
"I… I…" He stuttered, unable to find the right word to say.
He just watched his wife leave the mansion with another man and he had no voice to keep her in order.
"Don't stammer, young man. Prepare for my wrath as I doubt if I can keep tolerating your nonsense!" Mr. Stewart warned him angrily before dashing into his room, his wife followed in annoyance.
"Piglet!" She pounced.
"Next time, know your place!" Logan shaded him to a corner and left.
Drew waited for his wife all night until he slept off on the edge of the bed and the following morning, he was woken up by a hot slap on his cheek.
"Ouch!" He gasped, holding his chin as he opened his eyes to see the person who had slapped him.
"Idiot! I have been calling your name for hours. Do you know what time it is?" Diane growled at his face in anger.
"Seriously? Is that how to wake me up? I mean I have been waiting for you all night!" He half-yelled at her face, unable to control his emotion.
"I never asked you to wait for me and you should brush your mouth before you speak to me, you clodpole!" She yelled back in anger.
"What has come over you, Diane? What did I do? This isn't you. Did I do something wrong? I'm willing to change." He asked anxiously, staring into her stern eyes.
"Unfortunately, I have lost my cool and can't bear with you anymore. You are a fool! I thought I could manage a poor husband but you have turned into a shameless one!" She said in irritation.
Looking into her eyes, she had lost the affectionate eyes he had always known and the warmth around her.
"When did things get this bad?" He muttered absentmindedly.
"When you decided to do nothing and be a full-time house husband yet you keep disturbing the peace of the family." She spoke immediately after him, showing no respect and giving him no break.
She yapped so fast, forgetting who saved her years ago and who supported her family massively before he lost his job.
"Listen and listen good, Drew!" She said, pointing her finger at him.
"You have less than a few minutes to join me in the car, I mean it." With that, she stormed out of the room.
"Where are we going?" Whether she heard him or not, she must have obviously snubbed him as he got no response.
The ride was a quiet one, he couldn't speak and even when he tried to bring up a conversation, she would interrupt him and her eyes were alert — ultimately waiting to shun him.
He looked shocked and confused when she parked the car in the hospital garage. Immediately, he faced her.
"Babe, are you sick?" He asked anxiously with his eyes filled with concern.
Even with her awful behavior, he still had some feelings left for her and if she was willing - he would let it grow.
"Do I look sick, fool?" She rolled her eyes away.
"Then, what are we doing at the hospital?" He questioned calmly as his Adam's Apple glided up and down as a result of nervousness.
"Well, I have both good news and bad news for you." She said, slowly bringing out some documents from a file bag.
"Really? Start with the good news." He looked giddy and excited. He couldn't remember the last time he had a normal conversation with her.
"I'm pregnant." She spilled bluntly with a broad smile on her face and his jaw dropped.
"What? Pregnant?" He gasped in excitement and didn't know when he grabbed her arms.
"Babe, does this mean we are having — our — our own baby?" He could already imagine starting a family with her before she revealed the heart-wrenching truth to him.
She pushed his hands away, leaning on the seat while stretching the file to him. "Fortunately, skunk, I'm pregnant and you are not the father. Sign off these papers and get out of our lives." She announced curtly and his mouth widened without words.
His eyes seemed to be doing the talking as they rolled as if prying into her dark eyes.
"What?" It felt as if there was an explosive and he couldn't hear her anymore. Not her last word.
"That's the bad news." She made a comeback, remaining indifferent.
