Sophia was stunned. What was Robert talking about?
She didn't understand the meaning behind Robert's mysterious words.
But she knew that Robert wouldn't give her much time, so she decided to cut to the chase. "This document is just a gift for our meeting, but I..."
"Get to the point," Robert's voice was cold and low.
Sophia swallowed the words on her lips and took a deep breath before saying in a low voice, "I know that Master Miller's family is pressuring you to get married, so I want to propose a contract marriage with you. Would that be possible?"
Robert's eyes turned icy in an instant. He didn't say anything, just stared at Sophia. Her smile was shallow, with a hint of distance but still polite. Even though she was saying something as important as proposing to marry him, her eyes were calm, unlike some women who tried to flatter him on purpose to win his favor.
Even though they were separated by a table, Sophia could feel the coldness emanating from Robert. But since he asked her to speak her mind, she did.
However, the way he looked at her made her heart tremble.
"Well..." she broke the silence, trying to sound calm. "You have met with ten famous ladies this month, and after each meeting, there was no follow-up. It is said that your mother has given you a deadline to choose a bride this month."
"I am offering myself as a candidate. We can have a five-year contract marriage, and during those five years, I will be like a painting hanging on your wall. You can take me out and show me off during festivals and holidays, but after the holidays are over, you can just put me away without even looking at me."
"Within these five years, I can help Master Miller get anything you need. Just call me and I'll be there. After five years, our marriage will end, and I'll leave with nothing."
She was giving away five years of her life to Robert.
But she wasn't worried about Robert, because he had no female companions, only men, and no scandals. No smoke without fire, he probably didn't like women.
So what was she afraid of? She was marrying him to make Joseph kneel before her!
Robert's sharp eyes stared at Sophia, and a rare smile appeared as she spoke.
When she finished speaking, he turned and walked away.
Sophia saw this and a hint of panic appeared in her serious and calm eyes.
"Master Miller..." she called out.Robert heard Sophia's voice behind him, stopped and turned to look at her, his voice low, "What are you standing there for? If you're late, the civil affairs office will be closed."
