Chapter 7 - Choices

Eram sprinted home, smiling widely.

'This is the best day of my life'

Even as he ran out of breath, he kept sprinting. Eram watched his house get closer every step.

Eram appeared at the door. He immediately started to beat on it. as soon as the door opened he barely wheezed out.

"Mom I Passed!"

Looking at the disheveled boy that was her beloved son.

"Good job, but please breath. Tell me after you have washed all of the sweat off your face."

Eram listened to what she instructed him to do and speed walk to the bathroom. He turned on the warm water and splashed his face.

He immediately came back too his mom giddy.

"Mom I have so much to tell you about today. Will you please listen."

"Of course baby."

Eram proceeded to tell his mom about his day. Going into great detail.

Once Rue heard about Meln's hilarious outburst, she laughed heartily.

She kept asking her boy everything about his day and tried to be as engaging as possible, knowing she won't see him for a while. Tears were beginning to well up in her eyes when their was a sound at the door.

With the clacking of keys, the door opened. Eram's dad stood their, wearing a green shirt, and khaki shorts that ended at his knees

"I bet you passed Huh!"

"I did!"

Yubok saw his son smile and laughed.

"Tell me what happened today!"

Eram laughed. He recounted the events one more time too his dad, going into great detail. Eram was laughing as he spoke. When they got too the part with Meln they all laughed once more.

"Lastly, I have these papers."

He passed the stack of papers that contained information on each and every Grand Academy.

Yubok asked.

"Is there an Academy that you want in particular?"

"I haven't looked at any of them. I ran home as soon as I got the chance."

Yubok, Eram's dad said.

"Oh, nice well let's go through them."

His Mom , Rue, explained.

"We have four separate academies you can go too. one of the is called Celtin, they basically hunt specific Soul_Beast, for pay. They have short term missions."

She gave Eram a piece of paper with statistics on the school. It had an 80 percent survival rate, as well as a 90 percent passing rate, as well as only being away for a week. Eram looked over the paper then said.

" I don't think this one is for me."

Rue took a deep breath and continued.

" Next we have Maglion, they specialize in Rescue missions. When anyone is in danger they go help save the day. It's honorable."

She passed Eram the next paper. He looked over it.

'It seems you're deployed for yearly rotations, also their good pay'

He looked back at his mom and said once more.

"Though this job is honorable, I don't think it suits me."

Having a weaker smile, his mom stated sternly.

"Next we have Ann. To start off, you will not me going to this school."

Eram looked at her puzzled.

"Why."

" Because the people that go to this school, go because they have nothing left here. Me and your dad are here so it's not for you."

Eram laughed.

"Okay mom, don't worry. Though do you mind telling me what they do?"

Rue sighed.

"Basically they are permanent residents of the Ashlands. They live in small towns that are usually rest points for everyone else.."

Rue crumpled up the paper and threw it across the room, perfectly making it into the trashcan. Rue jumped up smiling while staring at the trashcan.

"The last one is Xell, it specializes in long term missions. Basically they try to make it as far into the rings as possible, discovering new things."

Rue laughed. Looking at her husband.

"Me and your dad wanted to get into this school when we were younger. When they told your dad he failed, he attacked the Instructor."

She laughed harder then continued.

"They gave him a job because of his 'spunk', to which he extended it too me. It was a wonderful time. If you want too go too this school I will approve."

She passed Eram the paper letting him look over it. He noticed that it said they're was only a twenty percent survival rate but didn't care. He looked back at his parents with a serios look.

" I think this is what I want to do."

His dad looked back at him with a serios gaze."

"How come?"

Eram took a deep breath before responding.

" I want to be able to experience the world myself. Honestly I'm tired of dreaming i could be their. This time i was too feel it."

Eram's dad laughed, tears weld up in his eyes until he took a deep breath.

"You take after me, that's for sure. Anyways we have been talking for a while and i think it is time fore you too head too bed."

Eram looked at the clock which betrayed him.

"Dang, I wanted too talk more. I guess I'll see you guys in the morning."

After giving his parents a quick hug he left for his room.

Back downstairs the parents continued their conversation.

Rue and Yubok were in chairs, crying.

"Damnit, were going to turn him into a monster."

Yubok listened to his wife speak. and added his own words.

" I know, I'm sorry. Were too weak to protect even our own home. This is pathetic"

"Yeah…"

"Babe, were just as bad as him. Fuck."

"I know…"

Rue responded in barely a whisper but he knew he was right. She then started to sob harder.

"Honey let's go to bed."

Yubok hugged Rue and after a moment they left for bed.

In the morning after everyone got their sleep some better than others the family had one last meeting for a while.

"Baby you better find a student just like you!"

Rue said with bloodshot eyes.

"If you don't, and you attempt to pass, I'll come there and kill you myself…"

Yubok started laughing, revealing his bloodshot eyes.

"What your mom means to say is find others like you. They'll keep you safe. Find a girl to love as well, maybe not in high school, but later down the line."

Eram started to blush like a tomato.

"Okay fine, I'll stay safe, I got to go to school now."

"Fine bye baby I love you please stay safe…"

Eram's parents cried. They watched their son leaving, and Yubok added on.

"Bye, son well see you as soon as they let us,"
