Chapter 6 - True talent vs fake talent

"Lucky! Hell yeah... wait I mean heck yeah"

Looking at mark, he made kissy faces to show his love. He got up and did a ballerina twirl, laughing all the while.

"Oh my gosh Mark, I would kiss you right now if I wouldn't be fired, or killed immediately!"

He looked at Mark's face, smiling, then looked back at an old photo. The photo was worn and dusty, however it was defiantly the younger, spitting image of Mr. Longly and Mark.

Mark looked up at the ceiling for a moment, then looked back at the students. He had a massive grin on his face that showed his pearly white teeth.

"Okay, the two students who passed even before we began, I want you both to come up here."

Eram and the girl both walked up, and proceeded to introduce themselves.

"My name is Eram"

"And my name is uhm, uhm, Kalla"

She wavered as she stared at Eram's arm.

Mark looked at the two students and exclaimed

"I want all to do what you did earlier, demonstrate to the class why you guys were born with true talent."

After his remark, Kalla went pale. she frowned, but still made the sphere around her.

Mr. Longly went as pail as Kalla. He stared at Mark glaring, trying to convey his thoughts.

'I swear if i lose my job I'm going to kill you Mark... or at least die trying.'

"Is this want you to want Mark?"

Eram said with a while raising his arm towards the shimmering sphere.

"Yes, please demonstrate it too the class."

Doing as he was told, his arm entered the sphere and was cut off once more.

"Extremely impressive Eram, now I want you to pick up your arm and I want you to reattach it. Please go slow so the class can watch."

Eram complied and everyone gasped. His arm let out a sizzling sound as it was reattached, the blood crawled back up his skin back into his arm.

"This is was talent looks like class. Please don't feel upset about your inadequacies, they are not your fault. I don't want too pass any of you who cant do something close to as special. I don't want any of you to die."

The students looked around, frowning.

One student took a deep breath and asked a question out of curiosity.

"I mean I just saw what happened but I still don't get it. What is so special about them?"

The kid clenched his fists. Frowning he stared at Mark directly in the eyes.

" Kalla has a sphere that can protect her. I won't go into specifics, however I will tell you that the sphere will attack without her even having to think."

One of the students looked hopeful, and asked once more.

"So cool, Kalla can create a protective sphere, but what about Eram."

Mark laughed a little bit.

"Eram has something even more special, I am holding a Mythical artifact that is considered a rank 10, called Eyes of Valoria, the goddess of wisdom. This doll.."

He pulled out a small doll made of nothing but straw and a string.

"Allows someone that holds it to immediately understand what someone's core is as soon as you see them use any of their abilities. It has other powers which solidify it into the realm of transcendence, but I'm not going to be sharing those today."

He put the doll back in his pocket and continued.

"What's crazy is that i couldn't understand almost any of his abilities. I could obviously see healing, and a few others, however their was other things that i couldn't comprehend."

He took a deep breath, pushing his hair out of his face.

"On top of all of that he has a few more amazing abilities such as, the ability to mutate his body at will, heightened senses, high adaptability, and many more."

Sighing he continued..

" Let's not get held up on this forever. Both of them pass obviously, so let's continue, next person please come up."

He then pointed at the next student. The kid looked pale as he walked up.

" My name is carl."

As soon as he used his ability, his eyes lit up. He stopped, took a breath, then looked at mark.

"I can use a form of heat vision and x-ray to see through objects though I am not too good at it currently"

He looked down clearly stressed, until he heard what the teacher said.

"You pass, I want you to try to look through my body."

Mark opened up his arms, letting the boy look. The boy's mouth dropped. He kept muttering like a crazy person.

"What happened, why I can't see through you?"

Mark smiled.

"Your ability is good, but don't rely on it too much. Once you understand how it works then you realize why you couldn't see through me. Once again next please."

The small boy laughed and went back to his seat.

Mark then looked at the next student, they got up and went to the front to begin their presentation.

The young girl Stammered

"My name is S... Sa... Sa... Sammy"

She took a deep breath as she quivered.

" I can make an ice wisp, that also makes people look at it.... I already know, I failed."

She created the wisp while she looked down at the ground.

Mark then laughed.

"You passed. Next."

She pointed at the first person who failed, Yelling.

" Why did I pass if she failed?"

The first girls head slumped to her desk, and started whimpering.

"Your ability is more useful than hers unfortunately. Her ability just creates a wisp of fire that makes people look towards it, while yours makes a wisp of ice that not only makes people look towards it, they also get drained of their energy."

The girl smiled and went back to her desk.

The next boy had all the confidence in the world. He stood up with a cackle. He let out a giant toothy grin and snickered more.

"I am the great! …"

Seeing the kid standing up in his desk mark shivered.

"Failed.... You failed, please save yourself the embarrassment…please."

Mark looked away form him, covering his face with his hands.

The boy looked at him frozen in shock then fell to his knees with a thud. His face muddied with tears.

Eram began to laugh.

'This guy is a moron, why did he stand up like that, it's making me feel icky.'

After a moment the boy got back up with fury.

"Why… why did I fail? I am the greatest, people look at me with awe and love, no one ever turns me down!"

Marks face turned a shade of pink.

"Because you have a charisma-based core it works only on humans. Do you think you can fight a Soul-Beast by showing it a grin, and giving it a thumbs up…. Before you even answer that, it's no, the answer is no."

The boy then started acting even more dramatically

"Ugh... the great Meln was destined for greatness, but was shot down by a mere commoner. This isn't fair my life is over! He shattered my hopes and dreams... There's nothing left for me but to become a sewer rat!"

The tears kept coming down his face.

Mr. Longly then started to laugh. Multiple times throughout the year, Meln, would harass the teacher and get away with it.

"Hey kid don't worry. Mark makes it sound like your life is over, but it's not. This country would love to hire you. It's a job that will pay you a fortune, we will talk after class."

Mark smiled as well.

" Next."

The next student got up and went to the front but alas, it was another fail.

The class was a mess some students were weeping tears of joy and some students were crying like their parents had just died.

Thirteen students passed, while seventeen failed.

"With that class over. I want everyone who failed to go home and have a wonderful day. Come back tomorrow with your parents to find one of the basic high schools. Everyone else please get with Mark on what to do next."

All the failed students slowly moped home. Some cried, some yelled from anger. The other students who passed stuck around to hear what Mark had to say.

"I am going to give each of you a stack of papers with the info on the four Grand Academies."

After doing as he said, he continued.

" Please arrive at eight in the morning with a school you have in mind. I will be taking you all to the capital tomorrow, which has a warp gate, basically something that will allow you to instantly travel large distances, and take you to your schools."

All of the students nodded and started to head out of the building.

'I wonder what school I am going to go too.'
