Chapter 35 - Chapter 34: Echoes of the Past

The journey through the wilderness continued as Jin Shang, Lysander, and their new ally, Kaelros, ventured toward their next destination. The air was heavy with unspoken tension, each man carrying his own burden of secrets.

Jin walked ahead, his Abyssal Core humming faintly as he mulled over Kaelros's test. The former Celestial's mastery of Elemental Symphony was unlike anything he'd ever faced.

Kaelros trailed behind, his sharp gaze studying Jin's every move. "You're strong, Abyssal Child, but strength alone won't be enough to achieve Cosmic Movement."

Jin stopped, turning to face him. "You keep calling me 'Abyssal Child.' Why?"

Kaelros smirked. "Because that's what you are. The Abyss doesn't just grant power—it consumes you. If you're not careful, it will devour everything you are."

Lysander, who had been silent, finally spoke. "Kaelros isn't wrong. The Abyss has a way of twisting even the strongest minds. You need to master it before it masters you."

Jin clenched his fists. "I didn't come this far to lose myself. The Abyss is a tool, nothing more."

Kaelros chuckled. "We'll see."

A Ghost from the Abyss

As they approached the outskirts of a forgotten village, the landscape grew darker. The sky seemed to fold in on itself, and the trees twisted unnaturally, their gnarled branches reaching like claws.

"This place…" Kaelros muttered, his voice uncharacteristically uneasy. "It reeks of the Abyss."

Lysander drew his weapon, a sleek, silver blade that shimmered faintly in the dim light. "Stay sharp. This could be a trap."

Before Jin could respond, a figure emerged from the shadows—a woman clad in dark, flowing robes. Her eyes glowed with an unnatural light, and her voice was like a whisper carried on the wind.

"Jin Shang," she said, her gaze piercing. "You've come far, but you're not ready for what lies ahead."

Jin stepped forward, his Abyssal energy flaring. "Who are you?"

The woman smiled faintly. "A remnant of the Abyss, a shadow of what you will become if you're not careful."

Kaelros stepped beside Jin, his expression serious. "She's not human anymore. Be careful."

Jin ignored him, focusing on the woman. "What do you want?"

"To test you," she said simply. "If you can survive, you might have a chance at mastering the Abyss."

Before Jin could respond, the ground beneath them cracked, and shadowy tendrils erupted, lashing out with terrifying speed.

The Battle of Shadows

Jin reacted instinctively, summoning a shield of Abyssal energy to deflect the attack. Kaelros leaped into action, his Elemental Symphony conjuring a whirlwind of fire and lightning that tore through the tendrils.

Lysander moved with deadly precision, his silver blade slicing through the shadows as if they were tangible.

"Focus, Jin!" Kaelros shouted. "This isn't a fight you can win alone!"

Jin growled, the Abyssal Core within him surging with power. He unleashed a wave of dark energy that pushed the tendrils back, but the woman merely laughed.

"Is that all you've got?" she taunted, her form shifting as the shadows around her grew darker and more oppressive.

Jin gritted his teeth. "I'm just getting started."

Drawing deeper from the Abyss, Jin channeled its energy into a single, devastating strike. The tendrils recoiled, and the woman's form flickered, her smile fading.

"Impressive," she said, her voice echoing. "But the Abyss demands more than power. It demands sacrifice."

With a final, piercing gaze, she vanished, leaving behind only silence and the lingering presence of the Abyss.

The Weight of Power

As the group caught their breath, Kaelros turned to Jin. "That was a warning. The Abyss isn't just a tool—it's alive. And it's watching you."

Jin didn't respond, his mind racing. The woman's words echoed in his head. The Abyss demands sacrifice.

Lysander sheathed his blade. "Whatever that was, it's gone for now. But Kaelros is right. You need to tread carefully, Jin."

Jin nodded, his resolve hardening. "I'll do whatever it takes to master the Abyss. No one—not even the Abyss itself—will control me."

As they left the cursed village, the shadows seemed to follow them, a silent reminder of the dangers ahead.

Far above, in the celestial realms, the higher beings watched with growing unease. Jin Shang's rise was no longer just a threat—it was a promise of change that would shake the very foundations of their world.

The path to Cosmic Movement was fraught with peril, but Jin's determination burned brighter than ever.
