Morning came, Ronnie had endured a short night of tension. He couldn't sleep because Lily insisted on sleeping right next to him.
Ronnie stood in front of the mirror, combing his overgrown hair.
"Why did you insist on laying next to me? You don't look like you slept a wink" Ronnie said, paying attention to her reflection in the mirror.
"I couldn't. I'm still too weak. Sleeping will send me into a state that I might not awaken from" She replied with a plain expression on her face.
"That doesn't sound so good, how do we fix that?" Ronnie asked.
"I wouldn't bother. I'm already working on it." Lily responded.
Ronnie grabbed his bag off the wall and threw it across his back.
"I'll see you later. Remember, stay out of trouble, be quiet, and most importantly, stay out of Pa's sight" Ronnie instructed in a quiet but authoritative voice.
"Master, that won't work." Lily pulls him by the sleeve.
"What won't work?" Ronnie asked.
"This arrangement. We can't be apart, I'll die. We both will. I'm still too weak." Lily said.
"This is quite the issue. how do I even get you out of the house?" Ronnie asked.
"You needn't worry about that" Lily had that mischievous smile again.
It was 2pm in the afternoon, the sun shone bright and hot outside. Ron sat far in front of Josh, who stared in his direction. Daniel and Hal stared as well, paying more attention to the woman seated at Ronnie's corner than the professor.
"Well, I'll see you all next week. don't forget to submit your research papers by our next class" the professor echoed over the microphone, exiting the hall immediately after.
"So this is what you called school. It's similar to ours except that we teach magic instead of words and give accurate history lessons. how do humans not know their own history?" Lily asked.
"You seem to know quite a lot about humans," Ronnie said, ignoring the chatter caused by students making their way out of the hall.
"Ronnie, I never knew you had an older sister," Josh said. He had already made his way to where they sat.
"I don't. This is— Lily. My cousin from abroad!" Ronnie responded reflexively.
"I see. Hello, miss Lily, nice to meet you" Josh said, waving at Lily.
In the blink of an eye, Lily was holding Josh by the neck, trying to squeeze the life out of him.
"Lily!" Ronnie yelled, grabbing her arm. She let go of Josh almost immediately.
The incident passed, Ronnie managed to get off by saying Lily couldn't speak or understand a word of English. He also managed to convince both Daniel and Hal that they were related. However they suspected that she might have been Ronnie's girlfriend because she wore his clothes.
"What was that about Lily?! You almost killed my best friend" Ronnie could no longer control his annoyance as he yelled at her on the way to a female clothes store.
"That wasn't a human. I could feel intense demonic energy radiating off him" Lily said, she had a concerned look on her face.
"What's that thing doing here, and why is it around this human?" She added, stroking her chin and paying no attention to Ronnie.
A moment later her eyes widened like she just realized something.
"Ronnie Carpenter, move aside" Lily said in a serious tone.
A confused Ronnie looked turned around to find Josh standing motionless on the sidewalk as cars went by.
"What are you talking about, Lily? It's just Josh. That's no demon, silly" Ronnie said.
Lily pulled him by the hand and pushed him aside.
"You'll get yourself killed. Move aside" she said.
Josh laughed hysterically. His voice sounded evil, a tone that made Ronnie freeze in fear.
"Jo—sh?" Ronnie called out.
"Is that this human's name? Josh is no longer here. Human, your soul radiates a delicious aura, can I have it?" Josh responded with laughter.
"What the hell is going on?!" Ronnie yelled.
Josh dashed at Ronnie, he was intercepted by Lily who knocked him aside with her fist and he smashed through a car.
Lily threw the stunned Ronnie on her shoulder and sprinted faster than the speed of a bullet train.
She sped past Ronnie's house, running far into the woods before throwing him down and falling against a collapsed tree in exhaustion.
"You — you murdered Josh!! trying to keep a demon around, what the hell was I thinking?!" Ronnie had an outburst, his both hands were placed on his head.
"He's not dead, Ronnie. Trust me he'll come back. That wasn't your Josh" Lily said, trying to catch her breath.
"what do you mean? What does anything mean?" Ronnie looked like he was losing his mind.
"In your study hall I noticed that he was eavesdropping on our conversation from afar" She said.
"What does that have to do with any of this?" Ronnie asked, looking up at Lily.
"Ronald, other humans can't understand me. That— wasn't speaking any human language when we encountered it" she responded.
Ronnie thought back,
"Wait—" he said. Realization hit him.
"Do you get it now?" Lily asked, looking directly in his eyes.
"You're saying Josh is a demon?!" Ronnie asked, his voice shook.
"No, not quite. More like possessed" she responded.
"How did that even happen, when—" Ronnie remembered the previous day.
"This is all your fault, Ronald. Your dumb 'game', summoning me here, do you even know the consequences of what you've done? you have unleashed a deadly evil on this world. You foolish child!" Lily thundered.
"So you're saying I'm the cause of this? Josh is gone because— of me?" He asked silently.
"When you summoned me, it opened a gate. Ronald, you just might have let the most dangerous damned souls out of hell and set them loose on the world. We have trouble on our hands" Lily explained with a frightening expression.
"Peekaboo, I found you" a familiar voice echoed.
