We were walking around town in the night, talking about whatever came to mind. Lucah trailed behind us for added security.
"So, what do you like to do in your freetime?" Kai asked. I was hugging myself because I was cold, but I was doing it in a nonchalant way.
"I read a lot. There's nothing better than curling up on the couch with a blanket, book, and cup of tea on a rainy day." I smiled at the thought. "What about you?"
"These past two years I've stayed pretty busy, so I can't say." He answered.
"That's no good. You need time to relax." I rubbed my arm. A gust of cold air caused me to gasp and turn away, my dress trying to fly away with it. I hugged myself tighter. Seconds later, Kai was placing his suit jacket on my shoulders. The warmth that enveloped me almost made me moan. The smell of smoke, spice, and leather filled my nose and I realized that I had never felt more turned on.
"Wait, what if you get cold?" I looked up at him. He gave a deep, rumbling laugh in response.
"I'm a male wolf. Getting cold is almost a myth." His eyes scanned me in his jacket. I felt tiny in it as I put my arms in the sleeves. "I wear jackets because it goes with my outfit." I hugged the jacket shut.
"Well… thank you." I gave him one last look then started walking again. He followed after me then paused, causing me to turn and look at him.
"Just give me one moment." He tapped a button on a phone that magically appeared in his hand and put it up to his ear, turning away. He spoke in a hushed, gruff voice. I took the time to wander slowly, making sure I was still close to Kai. Several minutes passed and I was looking up at the stars. The sound of running steps distracted me and I looked at the source just as I was grabbed. A surprised scream came from me as I was thrown on the running person's shoulder. A roar shook the air and the person seemed to speed up.
"Put me down!" I demanded, flailing.
"Cut it out!" A familiar voice grunted. I looked up to see Kai running after us. He was fast and terrifying. I flailed again and suddenly the person was falling. The back of my head hit the grass, making stars and flashes enter my eyes. The person hovered over me and I used as much strength as I could to kick them in the stomach. I couldn't see very well past the stars, but it seemed like a good move. Hai grabbed them by the throat a moment later, seeming bigger than he was before.
"A-Alpha King! P-please!" The person choked out. "I was just following orders." They were masked so I couldn't tell who they were. I blinked away the stars and flashes, studying what was happening. Kai was indeed bigger than normal, his muscles threatening to rip the white button-up shirt that he wore. His thighs strained the slack on his body and his hand on the person's neck was corded with muscle. I could see claws protruding from his fingers and hair beginning to grow up his hand.
"Crawl back into the hole you came out of and tell your boss that I will be having a chat with him very soon." Kai growled. A whimper came from the person and Kai growled and tossed him aside. He scurried to his feet before running away. In the light of the moon, I could see that Kai had wolf ears on top of his head. His shirt strained against his bulging arm and chest muscles. He wasn't even half transformed and he caught up to a mostly transformed kidnapper. I shivered, looking up at him. He was terrifying and I secretly hoped that I would never see him fully transformed. He looked at me on the ground once the panicked footsteps faded, his body slowly returning to normal. He knelt next to me, seeming to be afraid to touch me.
"Are you hurt?" Even though his voice was soft, I could still hear the anger in it. I pushed myself up, seeing Lucah behind him. He looked a little flustered. I touched the back of my head.
"I think I'm alright." I looked at my fingertips to see dark liquid on them.
"Lucah, go to the car and tell Hugo to have the first aid kit ready." Kai ordered without looking back.
"Yes, sir." Lucah turned and disappeared into the darkness.
"I'm fine. Really." I smiled slightly, trying to calm him.
"You're bleeding." He slipped one arm under my knees and one across my back before lifting me up. The memory of the pool flashed in my head. "Hold onto me." I wrapped my arms around his neck, looking at the memory. I barely realized that he was running when I blinked back into reality. His gait was smooth with no irregularities. He ran down the streets quickly, not caring about the onlookers while I was embarrassed. He slowed down when a black car approached us then pulled into a parking lot. He carried me to it, Lucah and the driver getting out. The driver was older and looked like someone's nice grandfather. He wore a black suit that made him look like a bachelor.
"How bad is it?" The driver questioned.
"Unsure." Kai answered.
"You always were unsure when it came to injuries." The driver smiled. "Sit in the car with your legs out for her to sit on." Kai nodded and did as told. I faced the open door, my face suddenly heating up.
"Hello, young lady. My name is Hugo. Would it be alright for me to check your wound?" He smiled at me.
"Y-yes, sir." I nodded hesitantly.
"Hah! She called me 'sir'! How polite and different for a Luna." He moved around me, placing the first aid kit on the top of the car. "Let's see here." I could feel him moving my hair out of the way and pulling out my hair tie.
"What lovely hair. Beautiful color." He said behind me. "Ah, here we are." I heard the rustling of a package and the pop of a cap.
"This may sting a little." He warned. A moment later, I could feel him dabbing something against my scalp. A burning sensation made me close my hand in my lap into fists. Kai had one had low on my back while he took one of my hands in his other. "I've got good news and I've got bad news. Which would you like first?" I paused.
"G… good news?" I said, unsure.
"Good news is that you don't need stitches. Bad news? Your pretty, white hair had blood in it." I heard him close the bottle.
"Blood doesn't bother me." I exhaled deeply. "Thank you, Mister Hugo."
"I like this one. You should bring her around more, Alpha." Hugo closed the case before going to the other side of the car. I stood from Kai's lap and moved away. I had been sitting on one leg with both of my legs between his. It brought an intense amount of heat to my face. Kai stood.
"I believe that is enough excitement for one evening." He moved so that I could get into the back seat. Kai, Hugo, and Lucah got into the car. "Hugo, please take us back to Renley's home."
"I-it's just Ren." I smiled awkwardly.
"To Ren's home." He corrected. The car began to move.
"Are you sure that is wise, Sir?" Lucah questioned. "The press has already gone to the news and released a photo. She could be targeted at her home as she was tonight." I looked at Lucah. I'm in danger? Who would want to target the most powerful Alpha's Luna?
"Set up a security detail around her house." Kai instructed. "Make sure that Ren and Kara are tailed everywhere they go."
"Yes, Sir." Lucah pulled out his phone and began typing.
