Chereads / The Alpha King Kai Silver / Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen

Chapter 13 - Chapter Thirteen

When I woke up, I knew immediately that I was alone. I was cold and not in an 'I'm freezing' sense. I was cold in a 'I can't feel his warmth' sense. I sat up and rubbed my eyes, looking around. Where did he go? Sighing, I got up and changed into jeans, a bra, a T-shirt, and socks. I brushed my teeth and hair then left my room. Kara was standing where she could see our rooms, the front door, the living room, and the kitchen. Her pajamas were crooked and her hair was a mess.

"What are you doing standing there?" I asked, making her jump.

"Jeez, Ren!" She turned to me before glancing behind me. "Kai leave, too?"

"Maybe they had some important business stuff to attend to." I shrugged, moving past her and to the kitchen.

"He didn't even slightly wake me. How is he so sneaky?" She whimpered. I was asking the same question.

"You know, clingy isn't a good look." I smirked, looking for something to eat. I wasn't really hungry, though.

"But I'm in love, Ren." She swooned. "He's so good at EVERYTHING."

"Yeah. Kai and I heard last night." I could tell that she didn't really understand what was happening to her. She didn't fully understand the bond that she created with Lucah, but I knew that she would learn.

"What? Damn those wolf ears. We were trying to be quiet." She crossed her arms. "Did you and Kai…?"

"We didn't get that far." I grabbed an orange.

 "What? Why?"

"Because I'm not ready. Maybe next time, though. God, I've never found someone so sexy." I glanced at the ceiling and shook my head slightly. I went back to peeling my orange.

"Same…. You think it's just how male wolves are? Sexy?" She tilted her head.

"No." I frowned but was smirking. "Not all wolves are attractive or smell good."

"How do you know if someone is a wolf?"

"As a wolf, you can smell them. Wolves have a stronger scent. As a human…." I thought for a moment. "Wolves have more vibrant hair. And they're more confident. Cocky. Even the poorer ones."

"I guess that is true. Humans are pretty dull." She shrugged, going into the living room and turning on the TV. I finished peeling my orange and began eating it while thinking of last night. "Oh no." I looked over, seeing our apartment on the TV. There were news reporters and paparazzi just waiting around.

"The Alpha King's Luna is right behind this door. Let's…." The voice faded away as I focused on the sounds outside. Talking. Lots of different voices. I dropped the last bit of my orange and ran around the house, closing blinds and curtains.

"What are you doing?" Kara looked at me confused.

"Go put some clothes on and DON'T look out of the window. The longer they think we're not here, the better." I told her, turning down the TV. She went into her room quickly and I pulled my phone out. I hadn't contacted Kai on my phone yet and something about it felt weird.

Me: Hi, it's Ren. Um… our apartment is surrounded by reporters and paparazzi. We have the windows closed, but I'm not sure what else to do.

I sent the message and then looked at the TV.

"Looks like some haters are arriving. How is this going to end?" The reporter spoke. I could see protesters being forced back by the guards outside.

"Okay, what did I miss?" Kara came out of her room. She smelled like Lucah.

"We've got… 'haters'. What are they hating?" I looked at her.

"The return of the Luna? Your story was huge for two years. They don't think you should get to come back." She answered.

"Wow, you've kept up with the news."

"I could've figured out it was you, too. I had suspected it when they described what you looked like." She nodded. Shouting erupted outside, making me stop. My eyes flicked to the TV where I could see fighting.

"Renley!" A haunting voice shouted. A shiver overtook my body. "Come out here, you slimy shit!" Kara and I looked at each other.

"Who is that?" She nearly whispered.

"My father… who isn't my father." I nearly whispered back. My phone chimed in my hand, causing me to look.

Kai: DO not go outside. I'm on the way.

"Kai's coming." I took a deep breath just as someone banged on the front door several times. Kara and I both turned to it, backing away. "Grab a knife and stay behind me." She moved quickly, returning and placing a knife in my hand. The banging returned, the door splintering. I could hear yelling outside and from the TV.

"Renley!" Father boomed from the other side of the door. Glass shattered behind me and I dropped my phone. I moved so that Kara was in the bedroom hallway. My heart pounded in my ears and my mind raced. Pushing aside the blinds to the sliding door, three guys walked in. Lucas, Jonah, and Zade. Shit! Zade went to open the front door where my father came in and two guys restraining the guards. Lucas grinned evilly, excited about what's to come.

"Oh! You have a friend." Father dusted his hands off.

"She's human." Jonah nodded. "Can I have her?" Kara shifted.

"Once we deal with little Renley here, you can do whatever you wish with the human." Father told him. "Come here, Renley." I shifted my grip on the knife handle.

"Obey your father. Come here." He ordered.

"You're not my father and you're not my Alpha." I responded. I could see the anger move into his face. Two years ago I would've never spoken back to him, but I was free now. He motioned to Lucas. Lucas moved forward to grab me and instinctively, I swiped the blade at him. It cut down the top of his forearm, making him cry out. Blood splattered on my shirt.

"Oh, don't be a baby. Grab her!" Father scowled. Lucas frowned and let go of his bleeding arm, reaching for me again. I swiped several times, managing to cut him once. He grabbed the blade, jerking towards himself. My body hit his and he locked me in his arms after casting the knife to the floor. I looked up at him, afraid.

"Someone grew some balls while they were away." Lucas chuckled. I wiggled in his arms, trying to get free. "Uh-uh."

"Kara." I grunted. "Run!" She got all of two steps before Zade grabbed her. She screamed, further raising my anxiety.

"Let her go! She has nothing to do with this!" I shouted.

"A human with a wolf's scent? Someone's been naughty. You've been marked." Father grabbed her face. "Have fun, Zade." Zade grinned, grabbing Kara's shirt and ripping it. Fear and adrenaline overwhelmed my senses. I wasn't going to let her get raped. A roar clawed its way out of my throat, making Lucas release me out of fear. I kicked him in the stomach hard enough to send him flying before I tackled Zade. We rolled across the floor where I ended up on top. I screamed, punching him over and over, taking out all of the trauma this family has given me out on him. Hands grabbed and lifted me, throwing me face first into the floor where there was broken glass. I got on all fours, sliding across the floor and feeling feral.

"Enough of this!" Father demanded. "You will not disobey me!" I stood, various parts of my face stinging.

"Get out of my house. None of you are welcome." I panted. Father signaled and Lucas and Jonah ran to me. I got in several punches before they grabbed me and wrestled me to the floor.

"Hurry up and break that spirit." Father waved his hand lazily. Lucas clawed at my shirt as panic rose. When he couldn't get my pants off, he moved to cut a hole in them. A roar shook the air and vibrated through my body. I could feel the smile growing on my face.

"What are you smiling at?" Jonah punched me in the face. Despite the pain, I laughed. It made me feel insane, but I couldn't help it. Kai came into view, his shirt ripped. He looked buffer and his fingers were like claws. He looked like this when I was almost kidnapped.

"Get off… of my wife." Kai growled. Lucas and Jonah stood and I sat up. Kai put out a hand and I noticed Lucah going to Kara. I went to Kai quickly. "Get Ren and Kara out of here." Lucah began to pull Kara away, her face full of fear.

"I'm staying." I told him. He didn't look at me, just moved me behind him. Father, Lucas, Jonah, and Zade looked like they were trying to be tough. Fear didn't look good on bad people.

"I gave all of you the chance to start over and you…." Kai took a deep breath. "Now… you have to die." He stepped closer to my father.

"Boys." Father stepped back and the others ran forward. Kai made quick work of them, clawing their throats when they got too close. I flinched at the blood that landed on my face, neck, and shirt. None of them landed a hit before they died. He was glaring at father before the last one hit the ground. Typical. Father used his sons as a shield. "A-alright! I'm sorry! You don't have to kill me." Kai growled as he moved closer to father. Seizing him by the neck, Kai lifted the whimpering man.

"You made her life a living hell. With you gone, she can finally heal." Kai told him before there was a crunching sound. The sound clawed at my bones and nerves, giving me a violent chill. Father went limp and I flinched. When he dropped him and turned back to me, I could see blood splattered across his shirt and pants. He looked like a whole different person and it kind of scared me. He killed for me. He stepped towards me, his body physically shrinking to its normal size. He took my face in his hands gently.

 "You're hurt." He said.

"I'm fine." I replied as the adrenaline wore off. Dizziness overtook me, my vision going black. "I'm… fine…." My body became limp and I passed out.
