"Just the typical group," I fibbed, my heart racing.
Max's lips formed a slight smile, yet it lacked any warmth.
"Great," he remarked. "I'm pleased to learn that."
I began to walk away, but his next statement froze me in place.
"By the way, Lila?" he remarked, his tone unsettlingly smooth.
I stood still, I made a turn to him. Our gaze met.
"Exercise caution with whom you place your trust." He said, turning his gaze to me.
My breath caught, and I compelled myself to continue walking, my thoughts racing when I kept moving.
In some way, I realized he wasn't referring to Alex. But I was trying to figure out my next step.
