Chereads / The Armor Thief / Chapter 9 - The Trouble's Origin

Chapter 9 - The Trouble's Origin

"Don't get too excited just yet." When Finn was all excited, Fiona timely dampened his spirits. "The thing does exist, but I don't have it. And you might have a hard time getting it."

"Didn't you say it's with your teacher?" Finn was taken aback. He didn't get what Fiona meant.

"Yeah." Fiona nodded without a second thought. "My teacher has it. But it's not mine, so I've no right to give it away, and I can't make a copy for you either."

"What did your teacher say?" Finn furrowed his brows and thought for a while. "I didn't say I wouldn't pay. I can just buy a copy of the chant. Is that okay?" Skills that were agility - based and could speed up the conversion of soul power to spiritual energy were scarce, but their use was limited. Finn thought it shouldn't be too pricey even if he had to buy it.

"It's not about the money!" Fiona shook her head in a rhythmic way. She tapped the chair a few times with two fingers and then said to Finn, "My teacher wants to see you."

"See me?" Finn narrowed his eyes at this news. He looked at Fiona with a cold stare and asked, "Did you tell your teacher that I cured you?"

Fiona was already an eighth - level Law Shaper and a powerful alchemist. Finn could easily imagine how accomplished her teacher must be. Such an outstanding person wanted to meet him, a low - level tenth - level thief. Besides curing Fiona, Finn couldn't think of any other reason why he'd catch that master's attention.

Finn wasn't a show - off idiot. In this dangerous world, he had his own ways to protect himself. There were some of his abilities that he didn't want others to know too soon. Curing Fiona was just an accident. Even so, Finn had clearly told Fiona not to tell anyone else about him, and Fiona had promised. But now it seemed this seemingly innocent yet somewhat enchanting woman hadn't kept her word.

"I didn't! I haven't told anyone else a single thing about you!" Fiona yelled in a wronged tone. She jumped up from the chair, ran to the opposite of Finn, bent down with her face close to Finn's, and asked, "I always remember what I promised you. I didn't mention you at all. Are you even a man? Why are you doubting me all of a sudden?"

"Uh..." Finn thought to himself, "I'm not as quick - tempered as you." But looking at Fiona's reaction, Finn felt that if this girl hadn't trained in acting at a film academy, she was probably telling the truth. Realizing he might have wrongly accused her, Finn asked with a bit less confidence, "Then why does your teacher want to see me? For no reason?"

"My teacher's not stupid!" Fiona pouted, looking all aggrieved. "I was really sick when I left last time, but when I got back, I was fine. Of course she could tell something was up. She asked me what happened and who cured me. I said I was asked not to tell, so she dropped it. But when I asked her if she had a skill for thieves to increase the speed of converting soul power to spiritual energy, she guessed it was you who wanted it. So she said she could give the thing away, but she wanted to meet the person who wanted it."

"It seems that once something's out in the open, it's really hard to hide it again." Finn was a bit sentimental. In the end, he only had himself to blame. If he'd been heartless enough not to save Fiona in the first place, he probably wouldn't be in this mess.

"This is probably the cost of being kind - hearted..." Finn secretly sighed. He was sort of justifying his own motives and pretended to be all innocent as he asked Fiona, "Do you know why your teacher wants to see me?"

"No." Seeing Finn's expression improve as he lifted his head, Fiona stood up straight. "She only said she wanted to see you, but I can guess some of the reasons." Fiona pursed her lips and suddenly, as fast as a thief using a sprinting skill, she sat on Finn's lap, wrapped her arms around his neck, and whispered in a coquettish tone in his ear, "Actually, my teacher's not in good health either. She's really sick. It's just that her cultivation level is high, so she's been managing. I think she wants to see you this time to learn about this. Finn, if possible, could you help cure my teacher too?"

"Get off me and then we can talk." Finn's face and ears turned red from Fiona's sudden move.
