Chapter 23 - chapter 20- The new Alpha is a vampire

(Now, I couldn't just cut his lifeline since I was fired. That would get me into a lot of trouble. The Fylgia in charge of Lachlan, he was very stubborn. I was going to have to deal with Lachlan for a while. That's what he said. He said Lachlan was even going to survive Ragnarok. The war of the Gods, the war Daddy was supposed to start and all of that.

(I'm getting off topic again. So unfortunately, Lachlan was here to stay, so I had to get used to him.

(That wasn't going to deter me in the slightest. This baby wasn't going to be my brother if I had any say in this- at least he wasn't going to be taking my spot in this family that I had waited 900 years for.

(So the cute little kids dad was watching, I went ahead and tripped one of them and she fell to the ground crying. See dad, kids are loud. You don't want kids.)

Sirius saw a little girl who was running around trip and fall. He got up immediately to help her get back up and went to find her parents. "Hello everyone, does this child belong to any of you?" He called out. No one claimed her, so he scanned the crowd to find Linus and see if he knew who the mother or father was.

To his surprise, he found Linus sitting next to Saoirse. Saoirse was holding a baby. As he looked her way, Saoirse, who was already looking at him, smiled and so he smiled back and made his way towards them.

However, to anyone looking at them, it appeared that Sirius was walking towards the door with the girl and he was suddenly stopped by a werewolf man who Sirius quickly realized was her father.

"Where do you think you're going with my daughter? Huh?!" The man said angrily.

"Oh are you her father?"

"Yes, so like I said, put her down."

He put the girl down and she ran over to her dad and resumed crying as if she had gotten hurt, which she had because she tripped, but not because of Sirius. The man became enraged at the girl's tears and he scooped her up in his burly arms. Without warning, he shoved Sirius hard, making him stumble. "Don't ever touch my daughter again, you got that?"

Sirius caught his balance, raising his hands to show he meant no harm. "Hey, I was just looking for her parents. She fell down." He said calmly.

"That's not your job," the man snarled, his voice sharp and threatening. "You don't go touching other people's kids."

"I understand," Sirius said evenly, "but I didn't see anyone watching her, and I thought it was better to help than to leave her crying on the ground."

The man's expression darkened, his voice dropping into a low growl. "I can watch my kid just fine."

"I'm not saying you can't," Sirius replied, holding his ground. "I'm just saying no one was stepping in to help her, so I was trying to find out where her parents were."

The man took a step closer, towering over Sirius now, his fists balled, threatening to sprout claws. He gave Sirius an intense gaze, like he would kill him if he said the wrong thing. "You're implying I wasn't watching my kid, aren't you?"

Sirius hesitated, he had honestly seen those kids running around for nearly two hours without any parent saying anything to them or giving them a sideways glance. "Well… she could have had more supervision. I've never seen kids just running around like that unsupervised. Where I come from, parents don't do that."

In an instant, the man's fist shot out and would have made contact with Sirius' face, but Linus had appeared out of thin air and met the fist with his own. Coming between the man and Sirius. A large crack was heard and people turned to see what the commotion was about. They gasped as they saw Linus calmly grasping onto the man's giant fist. It appeared like he had attempted to challenge the Alpha.

Murmurs arose from the crowd. The man's face turned red. "That's enough." Linus said, his voice exuding pure power. "Stand down or you'll end up embarrassing yourself. It's not wise of you to challenge the Alpha unless it's a full moon. And I am sure that is not the case or your hand would be broken right now."

He backed up, "I'm sorry Alpha, I wasn't challenging you, this man made me angry that's all. He's an outsider so I assumed he was carrying my daughter off, perhaps to steal her."

Linus let go of the man's fist. "Outsider? Ha you've assumed wrong. You don't know who you are dealing with. It would do you well to know who a person is before challenging them. This banquet is held in this man's honor. He is my sister's husband."

"I…didn't mean to offend Alpha, I didn't know."

"That's right. You didn't know. So let this be a warning to you." Then Linus turned to face the crowd. "Attention everyone, the time has come for me to announce the real purpose of this event. I have finally chosen my successor."

The crowd gasped in shock. If Linus had named a successor, that meant someone had bested him in a duel. The man's gaze turned to shock as he looked at Sirius. This scrawny new guy didn't look like he could have bested the Alpha. Perhaps the Alpha's sister then; she must be the new successor. This man was just a cute face that she must have married.

Linus picked up Sirius' arm and rose it in the air. He motioned Saoirse to come over and rose her arm as well. "Each of these two have defeated me. They are the only ones who have beaten me in 900 years."

Everyone gasped.

"Yes they are married. Our pack has gained a new power couple to replace me and my late wife Sundance. They will be the new bloodline to lead our species to glory. All of our pack now answers to them, will there be any challengers?"
