Chereads / One Piece: Isshin, The Sword Saint / Chapter 8 - 6) The Burning Town

Chapter 8 - 6) The Burning Town

"The Town! It's burning! The pirates must have invaded!"

"Pirates? Are there no soldiers to defend the village?"

"There are only a couple of soldiers in this village due to its small size, and our country doesn't pay the Heavenly Tribute, so not even the Marines would defend us. Those evil pirates know this, and would always take away our things, but they never burned everything down... what's going on..."

"I have quite a few questions about what you just said, little one, but there is no time for that. It is time for a fight!"

"But Mr. Isshin, we're too far from the village! It would take atleast half an hour to get there by going through the winding path from up here, and by then..."

"Kuhaha! Who said anything about taking a path? Hold on to me well, little one!" replied Isshin, his voice booming, as he bent his knees, gathering strength in his legs.

"Wait, you don't mean! No, stop! We'll die from this height!"

"Listen well, little one. I am the strongest. Trust in that. Trust in me." declared Isshin, his voice full of confidence, which subconsciously calmed her nerves as he jumped.

*Whoosh*

"Open your eyed, little one. Face your fears! Learn that what you believe to be impossible, never is!" he yelled, his voice somehow clear even while falling, the strong winds, which were supposed to buffet his voice, did not, reaching Mio's ears, as she hesitantly opened her eyes, watching as they plummeted at ever increasing speeds to the ground, to their death.

*boom*

Isshin kicked the air just they were about to hit the ground, thus floating them up, the kinetic energy of the fall spent, as they landed softly onto the soft snow.

Just as they landed, Isshin started sprinting towards the burning village immediately. In a couple of moments, they had reached the Outskirts of the village, as they looked upon the huts of various sizes, made with wood and hay, extremely flammable materials burn down, the lives of those stuck inside, unknown.

"Someone inside that house is alive, but is barely clinging onto life. If not saved soon, they will die."

"How do we put out the fire? There is no water nearby which isn't frozen, and even if there is, there is no way we could carry so much!" Mio panicked, not knowing what to do.

"Little one. Remember these words I dictate, and never forget. Never panic when in a pinch. Always observe your surroundings, you might just find a solution to the problem, yout just need to know where to look."

"For example, look here. This pillar supports the corner of this house, so should it break, it would create an opening wide enough for those who are stuck inside to perhaps escape, granted they are not dead by the time i get to them."

"But the entire house is burning so hot, that I can feel it's heat all the way from here! How will you get close enough to break that pillar without getting burnt!?"

"It is quite simple, little one. I don't need to." as he said that, he got into his battle stance, hand on the Mortal Blade, his body relaxed, but ready to spring into action.

*Shiiing*

"Dragon Flash"

*Whoosh-boom!*

A wave of wind flew from the edge of his blade, its power and trajectory perfectly controlled, so as to only hit the pillar with just enough force to break, while not using too much to prevent collapsing the hut altogether, thus creating an opening exactly as he had described.

"Wait here, little one." Saying this, Isshin turned into a blur, dashing towards the hole he created, and getting out while carrying 2 people on his shoulders, all within barely an instant.

He placed the 2 people, who seemed to be a mother and son onto the snow, a bit aways from the burning hut, which finally collapsed due to the wood weakened from the fire, and the pillar cut by Isshin.

"You made it! You saved them both!" Mio cried out, looking at the rising chests of mother and son.

"Stay here, little one. It is too dangerous for you to follow me any further into the village." Isshin said, sensing the presence of multiple hostile beings near the center of the village.

"Huh? No! You said that you wouldn't abandon me! We pinky promised!"

"And I won't. Isshin Ashina always keeps his oath!" he boomed, turning away from her, ready to act.

"...Please be careful. Come back safely..." Mio whispered, worry clear in her eyes.

"Hah! I'll be back." he smirked, before dashing into the flames.

A/N: Sorry for the late release of today's chapter, I have come down with a cold and headache, and could not muster any mood to type out this chapter. That is also why this chapter's a bit short, and probably low quality.

Anyway, throw me those powerstones and add the story to your collections!
