Sion was shocked, he had no idea the one who was helping him all along had such a high position within the guild, though as he thought back to the moment, he met the strange woman, from the way she acted and carried herself, he should have realized that there was more to her than meet the eyes.
Now,she knew why the woman had such confidence and why she seemed to know more about the way things worked at the guild, as well as why she willingly brought him along with her to the guild, to help him get a job, though it also made him wonder if she had ulterior motives.
A nagging part of Sion could not help but wonder if the woman wanted something more from him, if she wanted something in return for helping him. This made him feel slightly uneasy as Mei approached him. He was still trying to get used to things around him in this new world, and he could not trust people like that, especially when he did not know their true intentions.
Due to not knowing too much about his surroundings, he knew some people might try to take advantage of that if they realized it, which was why he was hellbent on understanding and learning more about those around him.
"Sion, did you pass the tests?" Mei asked as she finally reached him and Sion glanced at her.
Meanwhile, most people around them stared in surprise, wondering why a guild master approached a newcomer just like that, when they hardly chatted with those who were there for a long time, the guild masters were almost unapproachable to them.
Due to their reactions to Mei talking to ho, a newcomer with no name for himself, he could tell that neither Mei nor the other guild masters would approach guild members like that, which made many of the other members stare with many different emotions playing across their faces, ones even with jealousy and anger at the sight before them, and he sighed a bit.
"Yes, I passed the tests and got my membership card," He responded.
"Good, that is good news, there are many different types of commissions that are placed in the guild daily, each with a good or reasonable sum of money, they are taken on based on strength, whether you are capable of taking certain ones on or not, is totally up to you, the harder the job, more than money, that's it," Mei said to him and he tilted his head, as the woman's words sank in.
Sion glanced at the commission board and the cost of each commission, and his eyes narrowed. He could not deny that the offers were generous, most of them, but he knew that he had to get stronger as well if he wanted to earn more than just the average, for money was going to be crucial for him in order to survive.
"Thank you, Mei, for helping me out before as well as now, it means a lot," He said and Mei chuckled and then patted his shoulder as she leaned in closer to him and his eyes narrowed.
"You are welcome, you seemed lost, and I could not ignore that look, I am glad I brought you here, I have a feeling it will be more than worth it, call it a gut feeling, you have potential from what I heard happened in the final test room," She replied and Sion looked up at her, rubbing the back of his neck, a bit sheepish, for he knew what she was referring to and Mei laughed.
"It's fine, he had it coming, he will get over it eventually, there is no need to worry, he will not hold a grudge, he will not because you have potential, it is already getting dark, do you have a place to stay for the night?" Mei asked and Sion looked outside as the sun was setting.
"I am glad he is not holding a grudge against me or things would get a lot more difficult for me and no, I was thinking of staying at an inn or something," He responded and Mei glanced around the guild before sighing.
"There is a guest house right beside the guild, it is cheap depending on how you want to stay, I will get you a room there, you can stay there for the night," Mei said and Sion looked at her and his brows furrowed.
"Mei... You are being quite generous, no one does this amount of things unless they are truly good-natured or unless they want something in return, I do not mean to be rude, I appreciate the help, but do you want something from me in return?" Sion asked with a firm tone and Mei looked at him a bit stunned, and then she smiled.
The other guild masters, who were not far away from them, overheard and they raised their brows, surprised that someone spoke to one of their kind without any fear, which left them intrigued.
"You are quite a perceptive one, Sion, I admire that and you are right on your half to have your reservations, I do not want anything in return though, I simply am seeking potential and based on the aura I felt when I first met you, it is the reason for my actions afterward, I have no ulterior motives, my only goal is to get this guild to be one of the best, which means, better members," She responded.
Sion, who listened to every word she said, looked at her with a scrutinizing gaze and his eyes narrowed, he could tell that Mei was not lying, she was being completely honest, her voice and gaze were both unwavering, a woman driven by her goals.
"I understand, then thank you, I will stay at the guest house, for the night and accept my first commission tomorrow," He said and Mei smiled at him then nodded.
Sion nodded, before exiting the guild ignoring the stares from fellow members and he went to the nearby guest house, where he already had the room booked and the receptionist gave him the key and he went up.
The room was not too big, and had a comfortable bed with its own toilet and bath, as well as a table and chair.
He exhaled deeply and went to freshen up, while thinking about everything that happened so far and he could feel the exhaustion within him.
When he finished freshening up, he changed and went into bed, to call it a night, after what felt like an eternity, he was finally able to get some rest in a good bed something that was not the hard ground or the grass.
However, hours later, his reverie was interrupted, just before the morning sun, the entire building shook and a large booming sound echoed throughout the city, capturing everyone's attention and hi eyes snapped open wide, as he flung up from his sleep.
