Peregrine's steady footsteps echoed beside me as we ascended the spiraling marble staircase. The corridor leading to the Moonfall dormitory had an eerie, dim glow, lit only by the flickering blue crystal lanterns embedded in the walls. Shadows danced with every step, casting elongated silhouettes that swayed like wraiths.
"Do not draw too much attention to yourself, Luna," Peregrine said suddenly, her sharp eyes scanning me from behind her thin spectacles.
"Huh? Pardon me?" I looked at Peregrine in confusion as the woman started a conversation with me.
"What I meant is… You should keep your head down." Her voice carried that familiar cold, no-nonsense edge. "Conceal your identity as Emeraldine's princess and, more importantly, as a special student of Adventus... If you wish to survive here."
Her words hung in the air like smoke.
"Is it that dangerous?" I asked, keeping my tone light, but my heart was tense with caution.
