Chapter 17 - KILLING THE COUSIN WHILE SMILING

"You, what are you trying to do?" Laycon asked, taking a step back in trepidation.

"What do you mean? You seem to be suffering from memory loss. What kind of cousin will I be if I don't cure you when I know fully well that I have a solution?" Kaiser asked, leaning closer to Laycon while grinning widely at him.

"I won't allow you to humiliate me again. I already gave you enough respect, despite the fact that I'm the elder here. And you want to subject me to such a thing?" Laycon asked red faced, nearly vomiting blood due to anger.

"Why did you say it if you had no intention of doing it then?" Kaiser asked coldly, the fake smile on his face had long since disappeared as he took a step towards Laycon, releasing pressure from his body.

"Hey! Kaiser, let my brother go immediately. Do I look dead to you? I might have ignored it when you made him kneel because it was a joke between cousins, and none of us here are strangers. So the little games and insults could be overlooked. After all, who asked him to speak rashly? However, you're now overstepping it!" Laycon's younger brother, Brent, shouted, making Kaiser's cold eyes shift to him.

Like Kaiser, Brent was also a genius who was only two years older than him. His cultivation was also powerful, and he was incredibly hard working, ambitious even. Just like Kaiser, he was saddled with lots of responsibilities from a young age because he was capable. That was the nature of dragon clan, respect was according to sphere of influence and the strength of your arm. So, he was also the family's treasure. Among the younger generation, he ranks within the top four strongest people in the clan as at their last quarterly tournament. His strength was not bad at all. And he was different from Laycon. He was quiet, calculative, dangerous and ambitious. Even if he was weaker than Kaiser, the gap shouldn't be so much if one were to judge by the results of the last tournament. He was officially the third young master of the family, while Kaiser was the second. And yes, the young master title wasn't given according to age. It was given according to strength abilities, connections and how much weight the younger generation had within and outside the family. He rarely interferes when his siblings' clash with Kaiser, choosing to clench his fist and endure it while bidding his time. After all, who asked his stupid siblings to challenge Kaiser despite receiving numerous warning from Brent? But now, Kaiser's actions was an insult which he found difficult to swallow down, making the tight lipped cobra to finally show his head.

"Brent, now you're confusing me. What do you mean by overstepping it? Everyone here is a member of the imperial dragon clan. If he made a bet, he should fulfill it. The last time I lost a bet with you, I quickly handed over the patent of my new product without hesitation. A man must always keep his words. Or is your elder brother not a man? Since he has already fulfilled part of the bet, he should go on ahead and complete it."

"Kaiser Meyer! Don't overstep it! It was acceptable that he bowed before you, but you actually want him to do the same to that waste? Have you lost your mind or are you intentionally trying to set off a fire right here?" Brent shouted, taking a step forward.

Kaiser turned to him and rolled his eyes, not bothering to hide his impatience in the slightest bit.

"You're the one who has lost your mind. How dare you refer to my brother as trash and a stranger? Shut up and mind your business. The one I have an issue with is Laycon, not you. But if you insist on standing in the way, I don't mind knocking off your teeth if that will teach you how to mind your business. Since you're itching for a fight, I will beat you till even your mother won't be able to recognize you." Kaiser whispered coldly making huge murmurs rile up through the crowd. It has been really long Brent clashed with Kaiser. In fact, they maintained a cordial relationship on the surface, even sharing a few drinks and going to the club together with their other cousins and friends. The rivalry was kept in the background, and everyone loved to pretend it was always just a friendly competition within the family. While in the background, everyone pulled strings to remain at the top, or climb higher. If you are not strong enough, someone else will take your position away from you. And the more power you control means the more people under your sphere of influence, more soldiers under your command, more cultivation resources, more companies to control, more money and connections to make. Once their grandpa dies off, there's no guarantee that the new patriarch won't try to suppress the rest, causing tension. No one wanted the other to win even though there was already a set down heir. After all, the feeling of being inferior in such a powerful family was not a nice one.

Brent nodded sarcastically and scoffed.

"Ah! I intentionally stayed in the background, letting you strut around with the title of second young master. I guess it made you underestimate me. Kaiser, I want to see exactly how you want to beat me up." He spat angrily and took a step forward. His father immediately caught his hand holding him tightly.

Kaiser watched with a smile as Brent tried to struggle out of his father's grasp, but the latter kept shaking his head at him, passing a silent message with his eyes. Brent gritted his teeth and stayed back, glaring at Kaiser.

"That's more like it. We are good brothers, we shouldn't fight each other because of unnecessary things." Kaiser said with a satisfied smile and turned to Laycon, grinning. "My dear, are you going to do it or do you need my help?"
