Chapter 39: Kakashi: Fire Style – Meteor Volcano!
"Looks like I need to speed things up!"
After the Akatsuki meeting ended, Uchiha Obito realized that dragging out the mission had earned Pain's dissatisfaction.
Assigning the mission lead to Ah Huo, a relative newcomer, was clearly Pain's way of warning Obito.
Understanding this, Obito decided it was time to stop playing games.
"Zetsu, I need you to push the Kaguya clan into rebellion!"
Over the past few months, Obito hadn't been idle. Using his space-time ninjutsu, he executed stealthy assassinations without leaving a trace.
By planting false evidence, he framed other Mist shinobi for the killings, sowing mistrust and hostility among them.
Nobody knew it was Obito behind the murders. Those who were wrongly accused had no choice but to endure the hatred and blame from the victims' families.
In no time, the internal dynamics of Kirigakure became a tangled mess, with tensions escalating daily.
It was like the village had returned to the dark days of the Bloody Mist era.
Though not particularly sophisticated, such methods proved highly effective.
Now, the Kaguya clan was being framed as traitors and accused of being behind the recent assassinations.
A little more provocation would push the already tense situation to the brink, sparking chaos and potentially uncontrollable consequences.
"Hehehe… No problem," Zetsu replied with a sinister laugh.
Clearing obstacles for the Akatsuki's Tailed Beast Collection Plan was something he thoroughly enjoyed. This kind of operation was second nature to him.
In fact, if Zetsu had planned it himself, the results would likely have been even more precise.
---
"Oh, by the way, how's Kakashi doing?"
Just as Zetsu was about to leave, Obito suddenly remembered another matter.
"Kakashi? He's been recovering from his injuries after the last battle. Hanare rescued him and hid him in a cave," Zetsu replied, pausing.
"Got it," Obito said with a wave, dismissing Zetsu.
Left alone in the dimly lit chamber, Obito sat quietly as faint light reflected off his face, his Sharingan glowing with red intensity.
Moments later, the space around him rippled, and Obito vanished.
---
Outside the forest.
A young man with shark-like features led a team of around twenty Mist shinobi, including a skilled tracker: Ao.
"Ao-senpai, please scout for the enemy's location," Kisame Hoshigaki said, gesturing politely.
"Understood."
Ao nodded and pulled down his eye patch, revealing his Byakugan.
"Byakugan—activate!"
The veins around Ao's eye bulged as his vision expanded, revealing everything within the forest.
"I've found them! There are only two people in the mountain."
Ao relayed his findings confidently.
"Looks like our luck's pretty good!" Kisame smirked, unstrapping Samehada from his back. He sprinted toward the direction Ao had indicated, with the rest of the group following close behind.
Before long, Kisame and his team reached the mountain and surrounded a cave.
"Come out, Kakashi! We know you're in there!" Kisame called out loudly from outside the cave.
---
A few minutes later, two figures emerged from the cave: Kakashi and Hanare.
"How did you find us?" Kakashi asked in frustration.
He had spent the last few days recovering peacefully, assuming the Mist shinobi wouldn't locate him so easily.
But clearly, that assumption was naive. The Mist's tracking capabilities were beyond his understanding.
"You can ponder that question yourself," Kisame replied with a grin full of sharp teeth.
"So, Kakashi, what's your choice? I haven't fought at full strength in a long time. Last time, we missed our chance to clash—it's been a lingering regret of mine."
Kisame's terrifying smile widened as he prepared for battle, refusing to answer Kakashi's question.
---
"Looks like another tough fight is ahead," Kakashi muttered, taking a deep breath.
"Hanare, stay close to me."
Hanrei nodded as Kakashi began recalling the hand signs for a specific jutsu. His hands moved rapidly.
"Fire Style: Meteor Volcano!"
Once the hand seals were completed, Kakashi mimicked the motions he had once seen Uchiha Yi perform while executing this technique.
Clenching his fists, he gazed firmly at the sky and let out a loud shout. He then began punching the air repeatedly, as if summoning meteors to rain down.
The Mist shinobi were immediately alarmed, sensing that Kakashi was preparing an extremely dangerous forbidden technique.
The possibility of being annihilated in an instant sent shivers down their spines.
Even Kisame, as confident as he was, grew wary. He began channeling chakra throughout his body to prepare for the impending attack.
"Such a terrifying jutsu! Even my Byakugan can't decipher its mysteries. Truly worthy of the genius of Konoha, Kakashi!" Ao exclaimed, keeping his Byakugan activated.
Yet he couldn't understand why Kakashi's chakra flow seemed absent while performing the technique.
"Could Kakashi have developed a method to conceal chakra from the Byakugan?" Ao wondered. Though confused, he was deeply impressed.
---
"Kakashi, you're so cool! So amazing!"
Hanare's expression was pure admiration, her eyes sparkling with joy. She cheered him on, unable to hide her excitement.
Hearing her enthusiastic praise, Kakashi felt a surge of energy. Years of being single had finally paid off, as his honed hand speed made his punches even more vigorous.
Each strike of his fists tore through the air, creating sharp whooshing sounds.
---
However, as time passed, the scene began to feel awkward.
After several minutes of relentless punching, nothing happened.
The sky remained clear, except for the faint sound of crows cawing in the distance.
Kakashi's face flushed red with embarrassment. He wanted to dig a hole and bury himself.
The Mist shinobi stared in stunned silence, unable to find words.
---
"Pfft!"
"Hahahaha!"
"That's the funniest thing I've ever seen!"
Just as everyone was trying to process what they had witnessed, loud, unrestrained laughter echoed from a short distance away.
