Chapter 36: A new life
Ava's POV:
I stumbled, my vision blurring. Sabine's concerned voice echoed in my mind. "Ava, what's wrong?"
Kaida's eyes widened. "We need to get her to the pack healer, now."
Valtor nodded. "Follow me."
We rushed through the winding streets, my legs trembling beneath me. The pack healer, Elara, greeted us with a warm smile.
"Ava, lie down," Elara instructed, her hands scanning my body.
I felt a surge of discomfort as Elara's hands rested on my abdomen. "What is it?" I asked, my voice laced with worry.
Elara's expression turned serious. "Ava, you're pregnant."
I sat in stunned silence, my mind reeling with the news. Pregnant. I was going to be a mother.
Sabine's eyes sparkled with joy. "Ava, this is wonderful news!"
But Kael's face paled. "No, this can't be happening. Not now, not with the battle looming."
He took my hands, his eyes filled with worry. "Ava, I won't let you fight. You can't risk our child's life."
I smiled softly. "Kael, we'll figure this out together."
Kael's gaze dropped, his voice barely above a whisper. "I promised to protect you, Ava. And now... our child. What if I fail?"
My heart swelled with emotion as I wrapped my arms around him. "You'll never fail, Kael. You're the strongest, most loving mate I could ask for."
Third person POV
Kael's thoughts swirled in a mix of emotions. Fear, joy, and worry tangled together. He looked at Ava, his heart overflowing with love.
"Ava, from the moment I met you, I knew you were different. Your strength, your courage... it drew me in. And now, to think that you're carrying our child..." His voice cracked.
Ava POV (continued)
I took his hands, my eyes locked on his. "Kael, we'll get through this together. We'll protect our child, our pack... our future."
Kael's gaze dropped to my abdomen, a gentle smile spreading across his face. "Our little one," he whispered.
Valtor cleared his throat, breaking the intimate moment.
I think it's time I shared my past."
We turned to Valtor, curiosity etched on our faces.
Valtor's eyes clouded. "I was once a member of the Shadow Brotherhood. I saw the destruction they caused, the lives they ruined. I tried to leave, but they wouldn't let me."
Kaida's expression turned somber. "Valtor was tortured, Ava. He was left for dead."
Valtor's voice cracked. "But I survived. And I vowed to bring down the Shadow Brotherhood."
"We should discuss our plan. The Shadow Brotherhood won't hesitate to use Ava's condition against her."
Kaida nodded. "We need to be strategic. We can't let them exploit Ava's vulnerability."
Sabine's eyes narrowed. "We'll assign guards to Ava at all times. We'll protect her with our lives."
Third person POV
As the conversation continued, Kael's thoughts drifted back to their child now growing in Ava's womb. He envisioned a little boy or girl with Ava's fiery spirit and his own determination. A future leader, strong and brave.
They hugged, Kael's thoughts whispered in her mind. Ava, my love, I'm scared. I'm scared of losing you, of losing our child. But I'll do everything to keep you safe.
Tears pricked at the corners of Ava's eyes. I'm scared too, Kael. But we'll face this together.
Kael's lips brushed against hers, a gentle, loving kiss.
His heart swelled with pride and love. He would do everything to ensure their child's safety.
