Chereads / The Serpent's First Kill / Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

I woke up from my deep slumber, only to find myself being surrounded by curious and harmless beasts. It seems that they were protecting me while I was asleep, which makes me wonder who is truly a human here. As I stood up, a jolt of pain suddenly hit my body, making me stumble on the ground once more. Everything hurts, but my energy has been recovered. But it's hard to move. But I kept pushing.

Despite the pain that my body was feeling, I resumed my journey ahead, still following Cecilia's scent. Those five weird beings who called themselves "Queen's Rulers" were still in my head. They are powerful, I admit. They are stronger just like me. But the more I replayed those moments of battle against them, the more I felt excitement. Finally, I met beings who I can go all out with. For the first time in my life, ever since this journey started, I went all out against them. I am satisfied. Every monster or humans I met in this journey were weak. King Gia is strong too, but he admitted a few months ago that if I were to fight him in my full power, he would stand no chance against me. I don't know if he is just humbling himself or if that is true, but I hope I can fight him again.

It is getting stronger… Cecilia's sent I mean. As I follow Cecilia's smell, the scent is slowly becoming thicker than before. That means I am almost nearby. I hope nothing stops me again like those five beings. Judging by the sudden change of temperature, it appears that I have entered a different area. The monsters in this place are more vicious and wild. Though only a few numbers appear because I am approaching a city, they are powerful and well coordinated too. Not as powerful as me or those five beings I just fought. Still, it is good to fight to gain experience and to test new things.

For example, I let out my shadow field once more to see how long I can keep it active. The results were surprising. I can keep it active for a whole day before I run out of stamina and get tired. My serpentine can last for infinite as long as I am alive because she has her own consciousness. Meanwhile, my other skills like the Hands, Black Lightning, Nuclear Attack, and Raining Swords can last for 30 minutes while I am keeping them active. If I am not keeping them active, they usually last for about a minute or two.

Either way, fighting is a good way to gain experience and practice. Who knows? You might need these experiences one day when you are met with a powerful opponent. It is also another way for me to know more about myself when I fight. Judging by my skill set, I am more into mid and close combat range. Far combat? No, I don't have any of those skills except for my Serpentine. But she can only go as far as 10 miles from me.

I sighed. The more I move forward, the less monsters appear. I am bored and want more action, but I have to be patient and just keep following Cecilia's scent. It is getting thicker and thicker each day I walk through this journey. That means, I am almost close to her. I decided to run instead of walking, but even that made me run out of stamina and energy. What if I don't sleep? Well, I tried that but half of the day I felt so weak so I slept before the day was finished. But it doesn't matter. I'll push through and see for myself. I rather go through pain than live a peaceful life.

But I just jinxed myself as I found myself fighting against a horde of monsters. But something is off…

Something is off in this area.

Why are the monsters running wild? Rather, it looks like they are all scared. They are all coming from the same direction and running in the same direction, completely ignoring me. Some run into me and try to fight me in fear. Curiosity kills a cat. I am not a cat unfortunately. I approached the source where an intense pressure is coming from. As I slowly get near to the source, the air becomes heavy and cold. My surroundings slowly become dimmer as the sky is covered in dark clouds. I found the source.

Standing in the middle of a huge crater, surrounded by corpses of monsters was a man covered in armor. His whole body was protected by white and green armor, while his face wears a mask that hides his features. In his two hands, he holds two sharp and bloody swords.

"You look like you were having fun just now." I spoke, breaking the silence between us as we stared down at each other, judging each other's strength and power.

"You are not a monster. But something tells me that you are also not a human." He spoke. "Who are you?"

I laughed at his question. "Same beings also told me that I was too dangerous to let loose. Who knows? Probably a devil or something." I loosen my arms, getting the blood to flow. "I am bored."

The man grinned. "So you met with the Queen's Rulers too. They told me the same thing. I lost to them, but they failed to kill me. I am here to get my revenge against them."

I laughed whilst cracking my neck. "Poor little weakling. I didn't lose to them. But I am getting bored so let's get this over with!"

With no more words to exchange, I dashed forward, my eyes glowing in gold. As I successfully closed the distance between us, I unleashed a barrage of attacks against him, not giving him time to speak or counter. But when he opened his mouth wide, fangs were visible instead of teeth. A powerful blast of shockwave came out of his mouth, pushing me back hard.

"I am half human and half dragon. I am a Dragon Slayer who slays dragons for fun. I will show you what power is truly like." He said and then he waved his swords, unleashing powerful cuts that went towards my way. I dodged every single cut that was coming at me. I am still tired and injured from the last fight against the five beings, but I pushed through the pain and kept going. I closed the distance once again, unleashing a barrage of martial arts. My fists and legs were coated with black flames, enhancing my power for each strike I made. Then he opened his mouth once again, but before he could roar at my face, a leg struck his jaw, closing his mouth before the roar could come out.

The Dragon Slayer spinned his body, while his blades were out. He created a tornado and slashes were flying everywhere on the ground. I dodged and dodged every attack, but I know that dodging won't help. I finally activated my Shadow Field and the entire area became covered with shadows. A huge hand appeared from the shadows, slapping the tornado to make it stop spinning. The slap caused the Dragon Slayer to plummet from the tornado, crashing down on the ground. But he quickly stood and dashed towards me, closing the distance before I could. But before he could slash his swords, shadow hands grabbed hold of him. With all my might, I unleashed a barrage of martial arts, destroying his bones and body as I kept plummeting him. His armor was broken, and even his flesh was bleeding.

I kept going and going until all of his armor broke down to pieces. He coughed up blood and tried to force his way out, but my shadows are stronger. I summoned a huge sharp sword from the shadows beside me and pierced the sword into his body. The Dragon Slayer roared, pushing me away and making the hands disappear. Before he could catch his breath, he was already in front of me. His two swords slash my flesh and cut me nonstop. But he was an idiot.

As long as I am in my Shadow Field, I am unstoppable. Despite his swords cutting my flesh, no wounds were accumulating as my body regenerates faster before another cut can create new wounds. The Dragon Slayer is so busy cutting me, thinking I am being pressured that he doesn't even realize he was just wasting his energy.

"All brawl, not brain." I said. I kicked him as far as I could. When the distance was created, a horde of hands grabbed hold of him. He roared, making the hands disappear and letting him go. But before he could move, another horde of hands grabbed him. As he was about to let out another roar, a hand smacked his jaw, forcefully closing his mouth. I closed the distance, holding a sword in my hand. Then, it was my turn to barrage him with cuts and slashes.

After a few minutes of relentlessly cutting his flesh, his whole body is covered with cuts and wounds. Blood was dripping out of his open wounds. I distance myself again, summoning a huge sword, huge enough to cut him into two. Then I let it loose. Soon, his body was cut in half. His insides, his intestines, were becoming loose until they all fell on the ground.

I deactivated my Shadow Field because he was dead. But then, my eyes caught a glimpse of something. A small but recognizable material dropped from his corpse. I approached the item and a smile formed on my face.

I have acquired a Key.
