Chapter 5 - Finding Shadow

The night was eerily quiet, a stark contrast to the usual sounds of warfare that filled the air. Deon Lue walked cautiously through the dark forest, each step crunching softly against the fallen leaves. The moon hung high in the sky, casting a pale light that barely penetrated the thick canopy above. His heart raced, not just from the thrill of exploration, but from the anticipation of what he was about to face. Tonight, he was on a mission to capture a powerful dark-type beast rumored to inhabit this part of the forest—a creature known only as "Shadow."

He had heard stories of Shadow from Nyx, who claimed it was one of the most elusive and dangerous creatures in the region. According to the tales, Shadow could blend into the darkness, becoming almost invisible, and its attacks were both swift and deadly. Deon knew that capturing such a beast would give him a significant advantage in the upcoming 6v6 battle with Nyx, especially with only two days left to prepare.

Deon's team was coming together nicely. He already had Jolt, the powerful lightning-type that Flame had evolved into, and Aqualis, the graceful and fierce water-type beast. But he needed more diversity in his lineup. Shadow's abilities would add an unpredictable edge to his team, and Deon was determined to capture it, no matter the cost.

"Alright, Jolt, stay alert," Deon whispered, glancing at his companion. Jolt's yellow eyes glowed in the dark, illuminating their path as sparks danced around its body. The electric beast nodded, ready for whatever danger might come their way.

The deeper they ventured into the forest, the darker it became. Deon could barely see a few feet in front of him, relying mostly on Jolt's light to navigate. The air was thick with tension, every sound amplified in the stillness of the night. Suddenly, a rustle to his right made Deon spin around, his heart leaping into his throat. But it was just a small creature scurrying away, frightened by their presence.

"Calm down, Deon," he muttered to himself. "You've faced worse."

They pressed on, moving deeper into the forest. The trees seemed to close in around them, their twisted branches like the gnarled fingers of ancient giants. Just as Deon was beginning to wonder if the stories of Shadow were nothing more than myths, Jolt stopped abruptly, ears perked.

"What is it?" Deon asked, lowering his voice.

Jolt growled softly, its gaze fixed on a shadowy figure lurking just beyond the edge of their light. Deon squinted, trying to make out the shape. It was too dark to see clearly, but he could feel it—a presence watching them from the shadows.

Without warning, the figure darted forward, faster than Deon's eyes could track. Jolt reacted instantly, releasing a burst of electricity to illuminate the area. For a split second, Deon saw it: a sleek, black beast with glowing red eyes and a body that seemed to merge with the darkness itself. Then, just as quickly as it appeared, it vanished.

"Shadow!" Deon shouted, adrenaline surging through his veins. "Jolt, Thunder Wave, now!"

Jolt unleashed a wave of electric energy in all directions, hoping to paralyze the elusive beast. The forest lit up like a flash of lightning, but Shadow was nowhere to be seen. Deon's heart sank. It was like trying to catch a phantom.

"Stay sharp, Jolt," Deon warned, his eyes scanning the darkness. "It's still out there."

For what felt like an eternity, they stood in silence, waiting for any sign of movement. Then, out of the corner of his eye, Deon saw a flicker of red. He turned just in time to see Shadow lunging at them, claws outstretched.

"Dodge it!" Deon yelled, and Jolt leaped to the side, narrowly avoiding the attack.

Shadow landed gracefully, its body dissolving into the darkness once more. Deon gritted his teeth. This was going to be harder than he thought.

"Alright, let's change tactics," Deon muttered. "Jolt, use Spark Pulse. Light up the whole area!"

Jolt roared in response, gathering energy before releasing a burst of electrical pulses in every direction. The forest was bathed in a blinding light, and this time, there was no escape for Shadow. It was caught in the open, momentarily stunned by the sudden brightness.

"Now's our chance!" Deon shouted. "Aqualis, I choose you!"

With a swift motion, Deon released Aqualis from its orb. The water beast appeared in a flash, its scales glimmering in the electric light.

"Aqualis, use Aqua Vortex to trap it!"

Aqualis summoned a swirling torrent of water, aiming directly at Shadow. The dark-type beast tried to evade, but the vortex was too fast, engulfing it in a whirlpool of water. For the first time, Shadow was at a disadvantage, unable to blend into the shadows.

"Alright, Jolt, hit it with Thunderbolt while it's trapped!"

Jolt unleashed a powerful bolt of lightning, striking the water vortex and electrocuting Shadow within it. The combination of water and electricity was overwhelming, and for a moment, Deon thought they had won.

But Shadow was not so easily defeated. With a roar that sent shivers down Deon's spine, it shattered the vortex, sending water flying in all directions. It leaped out, eyes glowing with fury, and fired a dark energy beam straight at Jolt.

"Jolt, protect!" Deon commanded.

Jolt created a barrier of electricity just in time, deflecting the dark beam. But the force of the attack pushed it back, leaving Deon with only one option.

"It's now or never," Deon whispered, pulling out his capture orb. "I've got to time this perfectly."

As Shadow prepared to launch another attack, Deon threw the capture orb with all his might. The orb struck Shadow in mid-air, absorbing it in a flash of light. Deon held his breath as the orb shook violently on the ground, the red light blinking furiously.

One blink... two blinks... three blinks...

Then, with a satisfying click, the orb locked shut.

Deon exhaled a sigh of relief, his body finally relaxing. He had done it. He had captured the elusive Shadow.

"Great job, team!" he said, turning to Jolt and Aqualis. "We've got our dark-type!"

Jolt let out a triumphant roar, while Aqualis nodded gracefully, pleased with their teamwork.

Deon picked up the orb, feeling a surge of pride. Shadow was a powerful addition to his team, one that would give him an edge in his upcoming battle against Nyx.

Returning home, Deon couldn't wait to get to know his new companion. He released Shadow from its orb, watching as the dark beast materialized in his living room. It was even more imposing up close, with a sleek, muscular body and eyes that seemed to pierce through the darkness.

"Hey, Shadow," Deon said softly, extending a hand. "I'm Deon. Let's be friends."

Shadow eyed him warily, clearly not used to trusting humans. But after a moment, it gave a low growl, accepting Deon's outstretched hand.

Deon grinned. "Looks like we're gonna get along just fine. Now, let's see what you can do."

The next two days were filled with intense training. Deon focused on integrating Shadow into his team, testing its abilities and finding ways to combine its dark attacks with Jolt's lightning and Aqualis' water skills. Shadow's ability to blend into the darkness made it an excellent scout, perfect for surprise attacks.

Jolt and Shadow developed a fierce rivalry, constantly trying to outdo each other in practice battles. But Deon knew that this competition would only make them stronger.

With Shadow now part of his lineup, Deon's confidence soared. He was ready for the 6v6 battle against Nyx. He had the diversity, the power, and the strategy to take on his rival.

As the sun set on the final day of training, Deon looked over his team with pride. Jolt, Aqualis, Mist, flame, Blaze, and now Shadow—all of them were ready.

"Tomorrow's the big day," Deon said, addressing his team. "Let's show Nyx what we're made of."

They all roared in agreement, a chorus of different cries filling the air. Deon knew that, no matter what happened, they would fight together as one. The challenge was set, and he was ready to face it head-on.
