Chapter 15 - The first dead survivors

"Damn it, sooner or later I'll kill those two brats..."

At the cabin by the lake, Kenneth lay on the couch in the house, feeling a slight pain in the back of his head, cursing Brian and Sarah, who had long since disappeared.

His wife, Casey, was watching over him, listening to what her husband was saying, sitting there quietly and not saying anything.

When Kenneth came back here in shame and claimed that the two boys attacked him from behind and took his gun, in fact, everyone except the two boys knew the purpose of his outing.

But when Casey heard that Brian and the others had taken the gun, an uncontrollable resentment arose, resentment for her husband's incompetence and resentment for Brian and the others for taking the gun, because she knew that in this chaotic period, only a gun can protect her son.

"A car is coming, be careful!"

Just as he was about to say something, Taylor's screams came from outside the house.

Hearing this, the bodies of the two were shocked, they looked at each other, quickly found two usable weapons beside them, and quickly ran out of the door.

Outside the house, Taylor stood by the fence. He nervously watched the car approaching from a distance and felt a little uneasy. He turned his head to look at his wife who was shielding the two children behind him. Looking down with the gun in his hand, he felt helpless.

Kenneth's gun is gone, and now there is only a gun in his hand in this place. If this group of people have bad intentions, then it is extremely difficult for him to protect the safety of his wife and children.

  "What's up, who's here!"

Just as Tyler was thinking about it, Kenneth and Casey in the house ran out of the house with guns in their hands, they quickly ran to the fence and saw a vehicle not far away.

Everyone present looked anxiously at the approaching vehicle, but as the vehicle got closer, the expressions on their faces became more and more excited, because they saw that the vehicle coming from a distance was clearly an army truck.

"It's the army, they're here to save us!"

Kenneth, who was the first to discover this situation, roared excitedly and waved his hands at the car in front of him, expressing a loud welcome.

And everyone behind him had a sense of relief. Tyler turned around and hugged his crying wife. Casey was also filled with joy, and Barton and Angela seemed to be infected by the emotions of the people around them. They all showed very happy smiles.

A few minutes later, the vehicle slowly stopped outside the fence and more than a dozen heavily armed soldiers jumped out of the back of the carriage. The passenger door also opened and a man in combat uniform jumped out.

He walked up to the crowd with a serious face and said loudly, "We are from the National Disaster Rescue Team. Are there any other survivors nearby?"

"No, no, sir, there are people here in our place. Are you going to take us to a safe place?"

Hearing that the other party really came to rescue, Kenneth hurriedly stepped forward to respond flatteringly, and in the process asked where he would go next.

"Don't worry, as long as you follow the instructions, we will take you to a very safe place!" The man heard the other party's words, looked at the flattering face, his eyes flashed with displeasure, and then he seemed to remember something, the corner of his mouth appeared another sarcastic smile, and he responded to Kenneth's words meaningfully.

He then waved to the soldiers behind him and said to the survivors in front of him: "According to the regulations, we will search you and collect the firearms you have, and then take you to the resettlement site."

Seeing this, everyone felt a little dissatisfaction, but their eagerness to leave this place temporarily suppressed their dissatisfaction.

After a while, one of the soldiers approached the man to inform him: "Report, sir, they only have a pistol and there are no other dangerous items."

  "Well then..."

The man nodded and was about to speak, but Kenneth, who was in front of him, stepped forward, clasped his hands together and said, "Sir, may we be on our way now?"

"Go?" Looking at the person who interrupted him, the man looked very displeased, with a contemptuous smile on the corner of his mouth, and said, "Hehe, let's take you on the road first!"

After speaking, the man directly drew the pistol from his waist, pointed the muzzle at Kenneth's head, and pulled the trigger without hesitation under the other party's terrified gaze.

  "Bang!"

The bullet flew out of the barrel and instantly penetrated Kenneth's head, leaving a deep bloody hole in his forehead.

The rest of the people were stunned by the scene in front of them. They all looked at the man holding the gun in disbelief. Their mood seemed to fall from heaven to hell in an instant, and their eyes were full of fear.

  "Bastard, what are you doing!"

The first to react was Kenneth's wife, Casey, she looked at her husband's body lying on the ground and asked the man angrily.

"Fix them." But the man ignored Casey's question, turned around, and walked toward the truck's passenger side.

After turning around, the soldier beside him raised the rifle in his hand, no matter how much they cried and begged for mercy and asked the reason, he pulled the trigger mercilessly and shot wildly at the survivors, even if there were women and children, there is not the slightest fluctuation in his eyes.

At the edge of the fence, the few people who were still alive at this moment turned into corpses on the ground in an instant.

After finishing everything, the soldier went forward to confirm that everyone was dead, turned around and went back to the trunk, then the truck slowly turned around and drove away in the direction it came from, gradually disappearing into the horizon in the distance.

  ......

Throwing the corpse of the last infected person out of the factory building gate, Brian wiped the sweat from his forehead, looked at the corpses piled in front of him, put his hands on his hips, and let out a long sigh.

It was almost dusk, and there was not much time left until it got dark. He looked around and turned towards the factory building.

In the factory office, the desk had already been removed and there was a dark compartment on the floor, Sarah was squatting to one side and took out the contents in the same way.

Brian looked around and found a lot of food, guns, bullets, and even a box of first aid kits, which surprised him: "I didn't expect Ford to leave so many things behind, and I don't know what happened to that Morris?

  "Who cares!"

She didn't care at all about the relationship between the two. Sarah looked at the supplies piled on the ground. She opened her big hands excitedly and shouted happily, "Now these are all ours!"

Seeing the little girl's happy appearance, Brian's mouth also raised a smile, and he said with a smile: "Then I'll leave it to you, I'll take a look at that car."

Walking out of the office, he walked to the northwest corner of the factory building. The place where the car stopped was very particular. It was leaning against the side of the factory building. The car only needed to turn a corner to reach the door. It's not too bright, and you can't easily find it, let alone this lock on the wheel.

Walking to the side of the car, Brian crouched down and entered the password, unlocked the wheel lock, then opened the cab door and sat in. It's been a long time since he came into this world, and he will probably walk around for a while. Tomorrow's journey is long, so he plans to come in advance to get acquainted with it.

When he started the car, he found that the fuel tank was full, he checked other places and there was no problem, then he stepped on the clutch and brake, turned the steering wheel and left the workshop.

After driving around the pile of abandoned cars a few times, Brian saw that the sky was getting dark, so he drove the car directly into the factory building and parked it at the gate, so that they could drive straight out of the factory building when they set off tomorrow, and then he helped Sarah put all the supplies into the cardboard boxes she took from the shelves, and moved them one by one into the trunk.

Busy until late at night, after finishing everything, although there was a bathroom in the factory building, but worried that something else would happen, Brian and Sarah simply moved the mattress to the car and planned to use the car to sleep.

By mid-September, the weather had gradually begun to cool down, and although the factory building was closed all around, the cold wind blowing from the gaps still made the two of them feel cool.

Feeling Sarah's body tremble slightly, Brian sat up and covered the little girl with the blanket that covered them both, then continued to lie down and closed his eyes to sleep.

But as soon as he lay down, Sarah beside him suddenly moved. She rolled over to straighten Brian's arm, put her head on the pillow, snuggled into his arms, and pulled him in. He pulled the blanket off and covered them both.

Feeling the girl's body temperature in his arms, Brian instantly froze there, he, who had never communicated much with women and didn't know what to do for a while.

But little by little, listening to the steady breathing of the girl in his arms, his body slowly relaxed, after a hard day of work, he could not resist the invasion of drowsiness.
