Chapter 18 - Osborn and Kelly

The two who received the car keys immediately stopped hesitating, quickly walked out of the reception room, took the car remote control in the iron box, searched for two crisp "squeaking" sounds, and found the car to which the remote control belonged.

Brian asked Sarah to be alert to the surrounding environment. Although he didn't know why the car keys were put together, judging from the position where the car keys were placed just now, it was very likely that the people living here would come back, so their actions must be hurried.

Opening the cabin door, he sat down, but was unable to set the car on fire. Looking at the car's dashboard, he discovered that the fuel tank had bottomed out.

"Damn it, why is the fuel tank empty!"

He hurriedly got out of the car, tried the remaining keys, and found that the fuel tanks of all the cars here were empty, leaving him speechless for a moment.

No wonder the keys to this car were together. It turned out that someone had drained the oil, but I was very puzzled that there was a gas station opposite, so what was the oil in this car for?

Brian sighed helplessly, opened the door and got out of the car and said, "Sarah, I'm going to the gas station to get a barrel of oil, you..."

But right in the middle of his words, he turned his head and found that Sarah had her hands up, and behind her was a little girl with blonde hair, holding a shotgun on her back.

This made Brian's heart skip a beat, and he reached out to grab the gun at his waist, but at this moment, a cold voice behind him stopped him from moving forward.

"Kid, you better not do that, or you'll regret it."

Hearing the voice that suddenly appeared behind him, Brian's body instantly froze in place, knowing that he was too careless this time.

This time, he didn't dare to act rashly. Although he didn't know if the people behind him were tricking him, he could tell from the shotgun in the girl's hand that the people behind him also had guns 80% of the time, it's not difficult to get a gun.

Brian didn't dare to joke about his own life, he raised his hand high and said in his mouth: "We are just passing by, please don't hurt us."

"Take a step back, into the open space over there, and turn around."

But the people behind him did not respond to his words, instead asking them to retreat to the open space on the side.

The situation was stronger than the people. Brian and Sarah looked at each other and slowly backed away, hands still raised, until they retreated to an open space in the parking lot and stopped.

On the opposite side of them, the figure that had been standing behind Brian also showed his true face. It was a middle-aged man in his thirties with a shotgun and a cowboy hat on his head. Looking at the blonde girl beside him, she said, "Kelly, search them."

  "ok."

The blonde girl named Kelly with a shotgun responded, she put the shotgun behind her back, stood behind Brian and Sarah, searched everything on their bodies and checked their body, checking for any bite marks.

When she saw the bandages on Brian's hands, she asked nervously, "What's wrong with the wound on your hand?"

Looking at the other party's nervous face, Brian knew what he was afraid of and answered truthfully: "It was scratched by the glass fragments."

Hearing this, Kelly felt a little relieved, but she lifted the bandage slightly and took a look. After confirming the wound, she took the things and walked to the middle-aged man and said, "It's okay, there are no bite marks on their bodies."

The middle-aged man lovingly touched his daughter's head, raised his head to look at Brian and Sarah in front of him, pressed the cowboy hat on her head, and said apologetically, "I'm sorry, kids, although I know it's wrong, these days are complicated."

With that, the middle-aged man placed the pistols, daggers and other weapons seized from Brian and Sarah into the car beside him, then put down the shotgun in his hand and introduced himself.

"My name is Osborn, this is my daughter Kelly, don't worry, we won't hurt you, I saw you run off the road, where did you come from?"

Seeing that the other party didn't seem to have any intention of harming them, Brian secretly breathed a sigh of relief, looked at the middle-aged man who claimed to be Osborn, and slowly said: "My name is Brian, this is Sarah, we ran away from Austin and planned to go to Dallas, and we stopped here for the car."

  "Escape from Austin?"

Osborn frowned slightly, turned his head to look at the bullet-ridden car at the intersection not far away, and asked a little puzzled, "So, what happened to the bullet holes in your car?"

  "..."

Hearing this question, Brian was silent, he didn't know whether to tell the man in front of him or trick him with a lie, after hesitating for a moment, he decided to tell the truth.

"There was an army next to Austin. They blocked the highway intersection and prepared to clear the entire infected area. We ran out before they were ready. The bullet holes in the car were shot by their rifles."

"What?" Osborn and Kelly were stunned upon hearing this, and looked at each other with surprise on their faces.

Looking at the expressions of the two people on the opposite side, Brian knew that the two of them did not believe it, so he told them everything that happened to them when the plague broke out, the screams they heard in the morning, how to break out of the blockade point, and the record sheet they accidentally obtained.

After hearing Bryan's story, Osborn still couldn't believe it, he was a former army lieutenant, as a soldier who used to serve in the United States, he couldn't believe what the boy in front of him said, so he asked: "Where is that registration sheet?"

Brian was a little surprised, pointed to his car and said, "It's in the car, you can get it yourself."

  "Kelly, go get it!"

Hearing Brian's answer, Osborn subconsciously called out his daughter's name, but did not hear the other party's answer for a long time. He turned his head and found that she had run to the car to look for him at some point. Head over, he smiled helplessly.

After a while, Kelly ran back with a thud and handed what she found to her father.

"If you dare to run away silently, beware that I will whip you."

After taking the things his daughter handed him, Osborn scolded him several times while pretending to be angry and raised the splint in his hand to hit.

  "ok--"

Seeing that her father really wanted to hit her, Kelly quickly ran to the side and made a very funny face.

Sarah looked at the intimate interaction between the father and daughter of the couple in front of her, her eyes were full of envy, but when she thought of her father, her eyes were full of sadness.

Brian, who was standing beside her, saw her like this, walked to her side, reached out and patted her back, hoping to ease the other party's sadness.

Osborn silently watched the interaction between the two children in front of him and slowly let his guard down.

Looking down at the battle table in his hand, the line of "cleaning the infected area indiscriminately" made his complexion suddenly change.

If he was still skeptical at first, when he saw this battle table, he completely believed it. He was very familiar with this type of table. He didn't understand why the government would issue such a crazy order.

With an ugly face, he put away this battle table. Osborn suppressed these things for the time being. After all, he was still in the infection zone. Even if he knew these things, he was helpless, so he must put this matter to rest as soon as possible. This matter should be reported to his old comrades who are still in the army.

Returning his focus to the boy in front of him, he gathered up the things he put in the car and walked towards Brian.

From the conversation just now, I could feel that this was a very intelligent and assertive child, and judging from the subtle reactions of his body, this child was always thinking about protecting the girl beside him.

For people with this precious quality, Osborn has always liked people very much, and he is willing to trust such people. In this bad period, it is really difficult to easily trust others' things, even if the other party is just a child.

Returning the things to the boy's hands, Osborn explained in a low voice, "I'm sorry, because we encountered some bad things a few days ago, so we're all very cautious around strangers now. Sorry."

  "It's okay, it's understandable."

Having retrieved his own gun, Brian calmed down for a moment and opened his mouth to express his understanding, because if it were him, he would have done the same thing.

Even if it is confirmed that the other party is not a bad person, will he return the firearm to the other party? To be honest, it is not necessarily true, but he still has some doubts about why the other party is so attentive towards his two children.

Osborn looked at the boy with a smile, pointed to the trailer on the corner and said, "What you just told me is very important, and it turns out we're going to Dallas. Do you want to meet up?"

  "What?"

Hearing the other party's invitation, Brian was a little stunned. You just pointed a gun at me, why are you not afraid of my revenge?

But then he thought about it and found that it didn't seem to be a bad thing. Although the rest of the journey was only two or three hours, no one knew the road ahead. After a bit of hesitation, he nodded to the other party's invitation.
