Chapter 21 - Into the upper realms.

As the two days passed, Carl and Mike prepared for the impending portal's opening. They honed their skills, gathered resources, and studied the ancient lore. The anticipation was palpable, and the air was electric with expectation.

On the afternoon of the second day, the skies began to darken, as if the heavens themselves were responding to the approaching event. Clouds gathered, their thick, grey masses twisting and writhing like living serpents.

Suddenly, a faint rumbling noise echoed through the air, growing louder with each passing moment. The ground began to shake, and the skies lit up with an otherworldly energy.

Mike, sensing the approaching catastrophe, transformed into his true form. His body began to shift and contort, his limbs elongating, and his skin turning a deep, fiery red. Wings burst forth from his back, beating the air with a deafening roar.

As Mike soared into the skies, a colossal storm erupted around him. Lightning flashed, illuminating the dark clouds, and thunder boomed, shaking the very foundations of the earth.

The heavens themselves seemed to be unleashing their fury upon the world. A massive, ethereal rat appeared in the skies, its body composed of swirling clouds and its eyes blazing with divine energy.

The rat began to speak, its voice like thunder, "The time of reckoning is upon you, Carl! Prepare to face the trials that lie ahead!"

As the rat vanished, a golden light began to suffuse the skies, bathing the world in its warm, radiance. The light grew brighter, until it became a blinding, shining portal that seemed to pulse with an otherworldly energy.

Carl felt an inexplicable connection to the portal, as if it was calling to him, drawing him closer with an irresistible force. He raised his hand, and as he did, he felt a surge of pure soul energy course through his veins.

Without hesitation, Carl reached out and touched the portal. As he did, the world around him dissolved into chaos, and he felt himself being drawn into the very fabric of the universe.

Mike, still in his dragonic form, swooped down, his wings beating powerfully as he grasped Carl in his claws. "Hold on, Carl! We're going in!"

As they soared through the portal, Carl felt his consciousness expanding, his perception of time and space warping and bending. He was being pulled apart and put back together again, his very essence being rewritten at a fundamental level.

And then, in an instant, they were through. Carl found himself standing in a vast, crystalline chamber, the walls and floor glittering with a kaleidoscope of colors. Mike stood beside him, still in his dragonic form, his eyes gleaming with excitement.

Carl took a deep breath, feeling the pure soul energy still coursing through his veins. He knew that he had been changed forever, that he had been given a glimpse of the infinite possibilities that lay beyond the veil of reality.

"What lies ahead, Mike?" Carl asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Mike's response was a low, rumbling growl, "The Upper Realms, Carl. The secrets of the Gods world await us. Are you ready to face what lies within?".

As Carl and Mike emerged from the portal, they found themselves standing in the midst of a sprawling, ancient complex. The air was thick with the scent of incense, and the walls seemed to hum with a faint, otherworldly energy.

Mike, still in his dragonic form, quickly transformed back into his original human shape, his eyes scanning their surroundings with a mixture of curiosity and caution.

Carl, meanwhile, took a deep breath, his senses drinking in the atmosphere of the complex. He could feel the weight of history bearing down upon him, the echoes of ancient rituals and forbidden knowledge whispering through the corridors.

Suddenly, a group of heavily armed soldiers emerged from the shadows, their eyes fixed intently upon Carl and Mike. The soldiers were clad in black, ornate armor, adorned with intricate symbols that seemed to shimmer with a malevolent energy.

"Halt!" one of the soldiers barked, his hand on the hilt of his sword. "What is your identity, and what brings you to the Tang Sect?"

Carl smiled, his eyes glinting with amusement. "I am Carl Hades, a traveler from a distant land. And this is my companion, Mike. We come seeking knowledge and wisdom, and we mean no harm to the Tang Sect or its inhabitants."

The soldier's expression remained skeptical, but he nodded curtly. "I am Commander Arcturus, of the Tang Sect's guard. You will need to come with me, and speak with our leader. She will determine your intentions, and decide whether you may remain in our midst."

As Commander Arcturus spoke, Carl noticed that the soldiers seemed to be watching Mike with an intensity that bordered on hostility. He wondered what might be the cause of this animosity, and whether it might pose a threat to their mission.

With a nod, Carl agreed to follow Commander Arcturus, and the group set off through the winding corridors of the Young Sect. As they walked, Carl couldn't shake the feeling that they were being led deeper into a labyrinth, from which they might never escape.

As they entered the grand hall, Carl's eyes widened in awe. The walls were a masterpiece of dark, gothic architecture, adorned with intricate carvings that seemed to writhe and twist in the flickering torchlight.

At the far end of the hall, a figure sat upon a throne, her presence commanding attention. She was a vision of loveliness, her slender black hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of night. Her hazy blue eyes seemed to bore into the souls of those around her, leaving them breathless and wanting.

Carl felt his heart skip a beat as their eyes met, and he couldn't help but be drawn to her. She was a siren, a goddess, and a queen, all rolled into one.

Commander Arcturus stepped forward, his voice echoing through the hall. "Your Eminence, I present to you Carl, the son of Hades, God of Death, and his companion, Mike."

The woman's gaze never wavered, her eyes fixed intently upon Carl. "Ah, the son of Hades," she purred, her voice like honey. "It is an honor to receive you, Carl. I am Lilith, the leader of the Tang Sect."

Carl bowed his head, his voice low and respectful. "The honor is mine, Your Eminence. I am but a humble traveler, seeking knowledge and wisdom."

Lilith's gaze seemed to bore into his very soul, as if searching for any hidden motives. After a moment, she nodded, a small smile playing upon her lips.

"I sense that you are not like the others who have come before you, Carl. You have an... affinity for this place. The portal has brought you here for a reason, and I would very much like to know what that reason is."

Carl hesitated, unsure of how much to reveal. But there was something about Lilith that put him at ease, something that made him feel like he could trust her.

"I am on a quest to uncover the secrets of the Upper Realms," he said finally, his voice firm and resolute. "I have been told that the previous owner of this sect was betrayed and robbed of her power contained within those Gods that roams free and are beyond my wildest imagination."

Lilith's smile grew wider, her eyes glinting with amusement. "Ah, your the one master chose as her successor," she said, her voice dripping with intrigue. "What took you so long to ascend I have been waiting for your arrival great monarch of darkness, Carl. But I sense that you are different. You have a certain... spark within you, a spark that cannot be ignored."

Carl felt a shiver run down his spine as Lilith's words seemed to awaken something deep within him even though she seemed to stand up and acknowledge his arrival. He knew that he had stumbled upon something much bigger than himself, something that could change the course of his life forever.
