As I walked aimlessly down the street, I replayed the conversation with Xavier in my mind. The implication of what he said were staggering. I could either embrace this newfound ability or distance myself from it entirely. The thought of running away was tempting, but deep down, I knew it wouldn't be that simple.

What if I chose to ignore it? Would the spirits simply fade away, or would they linger, waiting for a moment of weakness to reveal themselves? I shuddered at the thought. The unknown felt like a dark cloud hanging over me, threatening to engulf me if I let it.

By the time I got home, my mind was blank. I didn't even remember how I made it back safely. I collapsed onto my bed, staring up at the ceiling as if it held the answers to my turmoil. My phone lay beside me, the screen glowing faintly in the dim light of my room. I picked it up, my thumb hovering over the call button that would connect me to my manager.

'I want to quit.'
