Chapter 2 - First Encounter

"I-I'm..." Navier stammered out, clearly at this moment, it seems she indeed had forgotten her own name. She had her head bowed down, her eyes; clearly staring at the floor, and at the black flat shoes she wore that day.

"I-I'm, N-Navier. Navier R-Romanoff." Her stuttering would make you want to end her, right at the spot. It was a miracle, that the man still exercised patience enough for the girl to finish her statement.

"What were you doing back there?" His direct questions were like lighting itself. Navier feared that if she wasted his time much longer, she might be struck by an actual lighting this time.

She gulped before stuttering out again, "N-nothing. I-I swear, I w-wasn't doing anything." She defended, with a shaky voice that he barely make out what it was that she was saying.

"Are you a reporter?" He suddenly asked.

"N-no." Navier shook her head so wildly that the man's men, feared that the girl's head might fall off from her neck.

"A paparazzi?"

"No."

"A CIA agent?" His question was making her more perplexed by the minute. She doesn't understand this man.

"N-no, sir." She defended, proving him wrong all over again.

"Then who are you?" His frown still persistent, even though he has studied the lady with his eyes.

"N-no one, sir." Navier responded in fear, "I'm no one." Yet the man was not convinced, even though the lady looked extremely delicate.

"How much?" Navier's head finally snapped up in surprise, not knowing what he was referring to.

"Huh?" The confused girl starred right into the cold man's eyes, which was consealed in the darkness.

The man sighed, clearly irritated by the lady's dim-witted nature. "How much do you want, in order to be silenced?" He stated, staring down at the girl, that Navier shuddered in fright, clearly not looking at him anymore.

'Silenced? Does he mean he wants to slit my throat? Is he going to kill me?' She unconsciously covered her neck, out of fright.

"Please." She begged, surprising the man that he frowned at the lady's behavior. "Please sir, I beg you, don't kill me. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to mingle in on your business. I am an only child and I really need to get back to my father." Navier trembled in her spot.

The man was totally amused by the sudden change in events, that he couldn't help but question, if the lady has a mental disability from birth.

He had no idea what the girl had in mind, or why she was acting that way, but he was tired if it.

Finally signaling for one of his men to step forward, the man brought out a suit case, which contained nothing but cash. The man took out some bundles of cash and forcefully tossed it into the girl's hands.

"If I see any reports tomorrow, about today? I will have you and everyone you ever cared about, annihilated." He threatened before walking away, with his men right behind him.

Navier didn't know why, but she called out to the tall man, who stopped in his tracks to looks back at the lady with his cold eyes.

"What?" He questioned her, with that deep voice, which made her shrink inwardly.

"I-I can't take this, sir." She stammered, not meeting his gaze.

"Why?"

The girl looked at him, with uncertain eyes, "because, when such an amount is given to someone, it means you want something from me in return, right?" Navier stated, "beside, you did threaten me few minutes ago." She muttered, but the man heard it, before sighing.

"I think you should go home." And he just walked away again.

Navier's eyes almost popped out of her socket, as she surveyed the whole bundle of dollars in her hands right now.

'Who is this man?' She asked herself as she stared at his departing back.

'Who is this man, that he can give up such an amount to someone whom he had just met?' It was of no doubt that he confused Navier in all ratification, and his coldness towards her just few minutes ago, made her feel like he murderes people for a living.

'This is more than enough to cover up for the bills.' She thought again, but there was something else bothering her - something else far more important than the bills.

She stared at the money and then back at the man, who was almost about to reach his parked ride. Not knowing what had possessed her, she startes running towards the man, calling out to him again.

The night was young and the air was chilly, it wasn't long again before the tunder rumbled out in the rainy night.

"Wait!" The man halted again, almost about to order his men to take her far away from him, before he would end up doing something he might regret.

Once she reached him in her huffing breath, she clenched the bundle of cash in her hands, before she looked up at him; spewing out the words she never knew she could say, after all her experience.

It was not how she had expected her first confession to turn out, but..."Let's get married." She blurted out in utter desperation at the moment.

'I need to change my fate!'
