Chapter 6: Life is too short
Evel slightly bent his body over to pick up the egg from the pile of python's eggs. The egg's purple hue with black spots made it look like a precious gem, so dazzling and beautiful that it seemed it belonged in the collection of an Empress. Evel tried to lift the egg, but no matter how much he tried, he couldn't move it. "What the heck, the egg looks so small but is actually heavier than all the others combined. Are you kidding me?" Evel felt helpless. The egg was only the size of his little fist, but he couldn't move it even a little.
The egg's allure was undeniable. It looked like a jewel, tempting and mesmerizing. Evel found himself drawn to it, unable to look away. "Staring at that egg makes me want to forget everything and just take care of it, help it grow with all my might," he thought, almost mesmerized by its beauty. The egg seemed to whisper promises of power and greatness, a treasure that could change his fate.
Determined, Evel focused all his strength. He felt the egg's weight in his hands, but this time, it seemed lighter. With a grunt of effort, he finally managed to lift it. However, as he held the egg, a strange sensation washed over him. His mind and emotions were no longer his own; they were being controlled by the egg. The allure was too strong, its pull too powerful.
As Evel stood there, holding the egg, he felt an overwhelming urge to protect it, to keep it close at all costs. His thoughts were consumed by the egg, and he couldn't think of anything else. He turned to leave the cave, cradling the egg like a precious treasure. But as he moved, the python, sensing its egg was being taken, stirred from its day sleep.
The python's eyes snapped open, and it saw Evel with the purple egg. Fury burned in its gaze as it let out a hiss of rage. The creature's massive body coiled and uncoiled with startling speed as it lunged towards Evel. He was oblivious to the danger, lost in the thrall of the egg's enchantment.
The python's massive tail swung through the air, aiming straight at Evel. He didn't notice the impending danger until it was too late. The tail struck him with the force of a battering ram, sending him flying across the cave. Evel crashed into the stone wall, the impact shaking the entire cavern. The egg slipped from his grasp, and he fell to the ground, dazed and bleeding.
The fall shattered the egg's control over Evel, and his mind cleared just in time to feel the excruciating pain. He looked down and saw that his body was in a miserable condition. His internal organs were destroyed, and blood poured from numerous wounds. If anyone saw him now, they wouldn't recognize him as a human; he looked like a pile of blood and flesh.
Evel didn't know how he was still conscious. He could feel his life slipping away, his vision fading. In the distance, he saw the purple egg and the massive white python. "Birds die for food, humans die for wealth... sigh, I was too careless," he thought. "But what's the point of regret now? I'm about to die. Sorry, Mom. Sorry, Dad. Your stupid son let you down and wasted your sacrifice."
Desperation gripped him as he clung to the last threads of life. "God, if you're there, please give me another life. I wouldn't make any mistakes. I won't be stupid. Please, reincarnate me," Evel begged, even though he knew there wasn't any god. If there was, his clan wouldn't have perished that day.
His consciousness began to fade, his vision becoming blurrier and blurrier. In real time, only a minute had passed, but to Evel, it felt like an eternity. His thoughts grew disjointed, and the pain was overwhelming. The last thing he saw was the python moving toward him, its eyes filled with anger and hunger.
Evel's mind drifted into the past, to the memories of his family and his childhood. He remembered his parents' smiles, their sacrifices, and their love. He remembered the joy of playing with his friends, the dreams he once had. Tears welled up in his eyes as he realized he would never see them again, never have a chance to make things right.
Even in his final moments, Evel mind and soul was not in peace. He felt a strong sense of regret and shame. "My mother died to protect me, my father lost his life to save mine and now i wasted my life for my greed" Evel felt like hitting himself until he was satisfied but he was already dying. His eyes closed, and his heart slowed. With one last sigh, Evel succumbed to the darkness. His body lay still, the life drained from it.
The cave was silent except for the python, which now slithered toward its fallen egg. It nudged the egg gently with its snout, hissing softly. The egg had been restored to its place, and the python's fury abated. It coiled protectively around the egg, its instincts driving it to guard this precious offspring.
Time passed, and the world outside the cave continued on. Evel's body remained where it had fallen, a silent testament to his final struggle. The python, ever vigilant, remained coiled around the egg, guarding it from any who might dare to approach.
