"What's up, kid?" asked Alex as he was looking at the ceiling and lifting a book up and reading it; he picked it from Christine's book shelf. "Who you calling, kid?" she said turning her position so she could see Alex better.
You really troubled your sister, said Alex in a childish tone. Shouldn't you go and apologise? He continued. You also shocked me a bit, said Alex as he continued looking at the book's pages; it doesn't look like he's reading anything. Christine sighs and said "Alex, my parents literally left me, leaving me in the hands of someone called my sister ". "Who can't even protect herself?" murmured Christine under her breath. Christine I used to understand you before, but now I don't really think I get you. Christine stands up and is about to leave the room. "Alex promises me that when you finally understand me, you will let me make my own decisions." Deal Alex replies, "Deal," let's do a pinky swear and a shake on it to seal it. Alright, Alex chuckles. When they were done, Christine asked why Alex chuckled earlier. He then said, "I've never seen a mature seven-year-old like you." I am not seven; she corrected, I am actually eight." Christine was very proud of her age, raising her head up and saying a hum sound. Also, don't forget, I consider myself a genius.
When Christine finishes her statement, Alex looks up at her and makes a mocking grin as a comment to her statement. I'll take my leave now; you should follow me because I discuss how to get out of this vanishing stuff before we all turn to blue-silver glitter. Alex, did you know that The Vanishing isn't actually going to happen anytime soon? Based on my studies and observations on the other happenings, it won't happen now, but I'm not certain, so keep it a secret. She smiles and walks out of the room. Alex then wondered how she could have guessed it; he says to himself she really is a genius; this shows that Alex has some source of intelligence, so he has more information than most people.
An incoming call startles Alex. Hello, he says, and a voice answers him, saying, Alex, how have you been? I am fine, he replies with his face turning into a frown. I wish you could visit, but that could be quite inconvenient. The conversation continues...
Downstairs Christine comes down and sees Layla fast asleep on the couch, still holding the note from their mom earlier. Christine shakes her head and goes towards the fridge to get some milk, and she sees some strawberry cake with a label on it. I know you'd love this. She sees it's from her mother and takes it out and places it on the table. She makes some cereal and carries her tablet; to play games on it, she also puts on some ear buds. She then stares at the strawberry cake and decides to try it; just as she puts a bite in her mouth, she begins to cry. Mum I really miss you so much, she said after her first bite. I pray you'd come back for me along with dad, then I can jump in your arms. She continues to eat and then discontinues the game and starts to type something on the tablet.
Christine finishes typing and puts the remaining cake back in the fridge. She clears the counter she ate at and walks down to the other couch. She collapses on the other couch and brings up her tablet to use it. While playing music aloud from a speaker, they were soft, sad tunes, and it actually started to snow outside; surprising doesn't wake Layla up.
