There was nothing but darkness. It was an eerie darkness that felt like pulling you apart the longer you stayed in it. But it seemed as if any type of escape from it was impossible.
It was an all-encompassing darkness that felt as if it were even blocking out all of his basic abilities to sense his surroundings. It was suffocating yet infinite.
All though none of his five senses were working, he somehow knew there was something around him. Weak sickly things, like they could die any moment. There were faint signatures of life all around him.
Where am I? Is this the result of the collision between me and the demon beast? Am I dead? Well, then why can't I speak, touch, or even see, for that matter?
Growing up having to steal for bread and sleep under bridges and shelters, Oliver never really had time to consider an afterlife. And since he grew up abandoned and without a family - religion was never a thing that was introduced to him. His foster parents from when he was 7 were Jewish, but they never really cared enough to introduce him to the culture. All of this formed him into the strong-willed atheist he is today; or was.
Ever since he slammed smack dab into the demonic beast thing, he's been secretly questioning whether or not God and spirits are real. But the same thing keeps him doubting. If he was real I wouldn't even be in this situation. I was born without committing a single "sin" yet I was immediately abandoned.
What God would let a child go through having to protect himself from beatings and having to come back from the literal brink of fucking death due to them. Even if God was real I REFUSE to believe in him.
As Oliver was thinking to himself about his religious stance, he felt something leave him. Not anything outside like clothes or hair but something from within. Something like a piece of his soul. But only a tiny fragment of it though.
What was that? That felt like I was losing blood except in order to do that I would have to be alive. And I'm questioning if I even am or not.
Thinking something was wrong Oliver tried with all his will to see but it seemed that his vision couldn't come back from just a strong will. So he decided to do something else productive with his time. Try to talk to the faint wisps of life.
I wonder if they know I'm here too. If so then that would make it much easier to communicate with them.
As Oliver tried to talk to them through his unique version of telepathy nothing happened. So he tried it over and over again until he even tried pulling them closer to talk. But that seemed to work. So he kept pulling the closest one to him until they were close enough to chat but as it was coming towards him it suddenly accelerated and smacked right into him.
Ow. I mean ow? I guess wherever I'm at or whatever I am is causing me not to feel pain. But I do feel bloated for some reason.
After a few seconds Oliver even felt that the fragment that was pulled away from his soul earlier had been restored, even seemed to have grown! But that wasn't the best part: he suddenly got his vision back - and it appeared to have been upgraded to 360-degree viewing! Though there wasn't that much to look at now though since he couldn't even see himself. Everything was dark like how it felt earlier except for the traces of faint life where little fluorescent blue orbs floated around aimlessly.
If those things smacking into me can make my soul bigger and even restore and upgrade my senses, then colliding with all of them might turn me into a type of superhero!
After deciding to start colliding with all the blue orbs around, he did exactly that. Starting with the ones closest to his vicinity he pulled in 4 at a time and smashed into them, he got all the rest of his senses back except his ability to speak. Where he was made no noise and it had no type of smell either.
The only useful sense that I got back was vision cause none of these other ones were helping me out.
Seeing that he got excited for nothing, Oliver just decided to keep pulling the blue orbs into him to pass the time. During this time, he found that those blue orbs were really just some type of life essence, and he was just returning the energy into him after death.
And what felt like days later, he finally pulled the last bit of energy into him. At this point in time, he felt his size exceeding 5 meters and was now the only thing remaining in the dark empty space.
Feeling a sense of bloatedness, Oliver made the decision to just rest and think but everything immediately turned white just as he was about to do so.
Am I headed into heaven? Was the only idea that could come into his mind as all of his surroundings turned white. And then everything went dark and his mind completely shut off.
When he awoke what he saw completely baffled him to the point where he thought he was dreaming. He got all his senses back - which was great, but what was currently in front of him was what looked like a pre-teenage elf, with what looked like her two younger siblings: a boy and a girl elf. And they were crying in front of a gravestone. That's right, Oliver was currently in a massive graveyard the size of a professional football field, with elves that are supposed to have only existed in fantasy novels. Although he grew up living on the streets he found a book or two lying on the ground and all the times he found them - they took place in some sort of fantasy world, so to say the least - he was ecstatic.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK! I GOT REINCARNATED INTO A FANTASY NOVEL! Life could not get any better.
He was right cause what he discovered next certainly made it much worse.
He looked next to him at a puddle of rainwater and found he was a 5-meter-tall red and black fluorescent blob.
"what"?
