Chapter Six
Sylvie dropped out of the cab, eyeing her wristwatch as she marched hastily towards the entrance to a majestic building.
She was running late to the time scheduled for her interview, and hints were her boss was a very strict man. Albeit she had woke up early, registering her kids and settling them for schooling was one hectic occasion she had to deal with early this morning.
She rushed into the elevator, arriving at the company's fourth's floor to have her interview.
A male secretary in sight ushered her to a seat where she met lots of different individuals probably there for the same reason as hers, except they all were males, and none out of them is a female.
She's now the only female amidst them. Sylvie tried not to let that bother her, and instead began hoping silently that she gets this job.
This company is one of the biggest in the city, majestic and simply rich, securing a job there would most definitely secure a comfortable life for herself and her kids.
Sylvie had to abandon her thoughts when she saw the male secretary from earlier coming to address them, he came to stand in front of them all.
"Alright, so I'm instructed to relay that only a selected few of you would be picked for this interview. I've been given names, so once you hear your name, please stand up and go straight into the office. Good luck!" He had said, each and every of his words courted with esteem.
He brought into sight a piece of paper, looking straight into it, "Sylvie Richard," he called, instantly raising his head.
Sylvie at the heard of her name stood up, anxiously adjusting the hem of her gown.
"You?" The secretary seemed awed.
Her brows furrowed at his expression, tempted to ask him why he expressed such reaction. "You're first, this way." He ushered, his hand gestured at a room paces from where they sat.
"If you don't mind me asking, who got you this interview?" He asked from behind, still curious on how Sylvie thinks she has a chance at working right inside this company.
Did she not observe anything at all on her way here, that there was no female employees anywhere in sight. It's because of their CEO, he shelters some kind of weird aversion towards the female genders in general and doesn't associate any of his related things with them.
And now a female is being opportune to work for them, there was be some mistake somewhere.
"Is there a reason to why you're asking that?" Sylvie too was confused, just not curious. This guy looked at her funny, then asked her how she got this chance, it's obvious he knows something or thinks something.
"I mean do you not know who your boss is going to be?" His head tilted, sizing her up with a pity gaze.
Sylvie was about replying when he suspended the conversation by knocking on the door to the office he brought them to.
"Come in," A male voice authorized from inside.
"Just tell him your name, and state the reason why you're here. Good luck, you're going to need it," he said to her as he held on the knob, pushing the door open for her.
Sylvie took a deep breath, marching into the wide space honoring the office. Her gaze moved swiftly around the expensively furnished surroundings to land on the man behind the desk, his appearance setting her off a little.
"Good morning," she greeted to announce her presence, halting her steps feet away from the man.
The man either did not hear her greeting, or just did not want to notice her yet, but Sylvie used his silence to her advantage of checking him out.
He was an attractive man, quite not like she expected. He has a smooth narrow face, a nicely trimmed fluffy hairstyle, his features were enticing and soft.
"Please come have your seat," he spoke up, pointing at the chair right in front of his desk.
Sylvie assumed he was done with whatever he was doing before and can now attend to her, she bowed her head walking over to the offered chair.
She sat down in a mannered position, maintaining a professional face. "Good morning Sir. I'm Sylvie Richard, and here for an interview for any available spot here at the company." Sylvie quickly introduced herself.
"Oh, so you're that lady my mom talked about. Anyways, I'm traveling out of country. I'm going over to head a branch of this company somewhere that is not around, so the available spot is my spot. And you're officially hired for the spot. I'm Mike by the way, but please, call me Mikey." He smiled, handing out his palm for an handshake.
Sylvie gasped, his words setting in. She's been hired! She actually never expected the interview to go this well and smooth.
The guy outside was making the boss out to be some wicked sort of person, but sat in front of her was a very nice human being she's super elated to meet.
Sylvie took the handshake beaming in smiles, "Thank you so much, wow, thank you really. I wasn't expecting this to be easy, thank you honestly."
"I'm not gonna lie, your pretty face did the work Sylvie. Didn't wanna stress it, and stop thanking me already even though it makes me feel pretty great," he responded, chuckling at his own words.
Sylvie was amazed by the man's personality, he is really nice and humorous, why are they making him to be someone different then.
"So your boss isn't here yet, so let me use the opportunity in showing you around and getting you acquainted with the company. What do you say?"
"Wait are you not my boss?" Sylvie raised a confusing brow.
"I mean you didn't think I was hiring you to be a CEO now did you? Cause-" he bursted out laughing, and to be honest sounded hilarious to Sylvie herself.
"Okay, you're obviously confused. Well, I'm not your boss, I'm more of the best friend of your boss and his favorite stranger. I.e, still his BFF. For some reasons, I'm traveling out like I've mentioned earlier and gonna need a replacement, so the replacement is you. You're gonna be his PA, not his bestie. If you try being that, I will go bestie demon on you. Haha just kidding. Now get up and let me show ya around, my flight takes off in the next two hours." He explained to her, clearing her of her confusion.
Both of them stepped out of their seats, stalking close to each other as they exited the office.
The secretary that brought her in stood up upon sighting Sylvie with Mikey. "Sir," he bowed in recognition.
"Sylvie this is Troye, he's Irish, Incase you're interested in learning the language," he glanced at Sylvie while making the introduction. "And Troye, this is Sylvie, just Sylvie, nothing else except for your new co-worker. She's going to be MA's new personal assistant, so let her know how things works around here and be super friendly alright?"
"Yes sir, congratulations Sylvie," he also waved at her.
"Thanks," Sylvie mouthed, waving back at him.
"You should go dismiss them, and wish them better luck next time," he said, referring to this who were present for the interview that rounded up already.
"Alright sir."
"Sylvie shall we, I honestly suck at giving tours so I don't know how I'm going to deal with this, but I want to get to know you better is why I'm offering to take you around in the first place. Now stimulate my interest."
Sylvie sighed, she's really not that much of a talker unless she's become comfortable with you. Albeit, Mike seems like a nice guy, she still doesn't have much to say to him.
"There's nothing interesting about me Sir, I'm just me, in a plain glory."
"Oh wow…."
They toured for close to thirty minutes with Mikey holding most of their conversations, he showed her the necessary parts of the company. Like the cafeteria, the restroom, and the conference hall.
He told her a map will still be given to her, but he just wanted to know her more, hence why he offered her a tour.
Sylvie learnt that he's just friendly guy and nothing more, his niceness had no motive or anything like hitting on her. Infact he told her about his crush, that he's going to miss her now that he's going away.
While on their way back to the office all exhausted from the walking, they branched the cafe for coffee and went back to the office.
"Ah!" Mikey sighed loudly as he plopped down his executive chair.
"So about your boss, he is a really weird man I hope you'll be able to deal with him. He already texted me that he is on his way, that's your own office right there." He pointed at a space Sylvie never noticed when she stepped in earlier and even looked around. The space was portable yet designed neatly.
"I have to get packing so I'll be on my way now, it was really nice meeting you even though you have a problem with talking. I'm not going to miss you at all, bye bye."
Sylvie chuckled at his words, "Goodbye Sir, you're a great man and I'm actually going to miss you." Sylvie told him.
He is really great, in many years, except for her kids nothing has made her smile or laugh heartily until she met this humorous man.
Sylvie was soon left with the solitude of the office when he left, dreading in silence for the arrival of her actual boss.
She just hope he's exactly like Mikey, and would disappoint all the remarks about who he is.
The door to the office creaked open, the sound jerking Sylvie out of her thoughts as she jumped straight on her feet so she could welcome her boss.
Chills ran into her body as his presence filled the office, his aura dark and threatening.
"Welcome-"
"What is this?"
Sylvie heard his cold rough voice quizzed interrupting her, she regulated her breathing then forced her stiffened face up to look at what he was quizzing about only to see his hand pointed at her.
Her gaze shifted upward until it landed on his face, heavens be damned if her new boss doesn't look exactly like Mikel Addams or her anxiety is just giving her hallucinations.
"How did this get in here? What is this doing in here?!" His voice raised in a deadly anger.
