Chapter Seven
Sylvie was not expecting Mikel to come in as her boss, she prayed, hoped, and wished earnestly for her conjecture to be funny, to be wrong. However, heaven wasn't really on her side it seems.
"Good morning, Mr Addams. I'm your newly hired personal assistant, my name is-"
"I don't give a damned fuck about who you are, I care about answers to my questions. What are you doing here in my office?!" He paraphrased, his gaze boiling with pure rage.
Sylvie found his reaction a little over the top, why was he so worked up about her in here or does he remember who she was to him?
"I tried answering sir, but your words were you gave zero fuck, Sir. Again, I'm Sylvie by name, and your newly hired personal assistant. I'm here to keep your plans in check, set and maintain your schedules or appointments, manage your filing systems, and be at your best service," Sylvie said in a courteous voice and mannerism, keeping her gaze off of Mikel. The last she want to see was his glazing eyes stabbing her all over.
"You're fired, get out!"
She heard his next words rolled out, that spammed instant chills into her body.
"Sir you can't do that?" Sylvie found herself opposing the man's words, she needed to, this is the opportunity they had waiting for her here to grab so she'd be able to cater for herself and her kids, so she had to save and work the opportunity even if her boss is a bit of weirdo filled with aversion.
Her guess was he remembered who she was, but that just wasn't showing at all on his face. He doesn't seem collected of their past or their familiarity.
"I understand we have a past, but I can assure you that you misunderstood-"
"What are you talking about? Who are you and what past are you on about? I'm ordering you to get out, and you dare still breathe in the same space as me?" Each words he uttered dripped venom, his hard voice adding to the intimidation.
Sylvie refused to look at him still, but let out a small chuckle. "Where was I suppose to go breathe, inside your toilet?" She snickered at her own comeback, her noticed the men behind Mikel silently doing same.
"You don't even know me, and yet hated me this much. Why might I ask?" At this moment, she summoned the courage to look into his poisonous gaze, that held so much contempt she could feel herself quite suffocated just starring into his abyss of disdain.
"One reason, I don't associate myself with snakes. Now get out while I'm still being nice, or keep pushing my nerves till I'd have you thrown out in the most horrible way ever," he threatened.
Sylvie gulped at the seriousness backing up his threat. She's began to consider the option of begging, but that would only double his ego and triple his need to intimidate her more. She just has to play this smartly and retain this employment, cause she can't lose it. A mere reminder of how heavy her salary is gave her all the motivation she needed in convincing Mikel's decision to favor her.
He doesn't know, but his own response just gave her an idea of what to do. He hated human snakes, he better fall for one of their tricks.
Sylvie sniffed while forcing her lacrimal glands to secrete tears. "Thing is I can't, I have a dying family out there at home waiting for me to come back with the good news that I've been hired," she paused, her voice soft like the clouds, her eyes skillfully letting out the tears slowly. "They want hope, me getting hired will give them the hope they so much crave for that life is not over for them yet, or their grandmother," she stopped to wipe her tears, smacking her lips as she glanced over at Mikel to see his reaction.
She nearly faltered, or broke into actual tears when she saw him looking the least concerned, his gaze remained malicious and expression catty as hell. When did Mikel Addams, her boss of then become this cruel with no emotions.
His wife's betrayal must have done more than a number on him. Nevertheless, Sylvie wasn't planning give up. She's only seeing his face, and not what runs through his mind. All on his face might just be a facade.
"My mother, she's also diagnosed with lung cancer. I'm here working because I lost my husband to a plane crash, and his family never approved of our marriage so they literally couldn't wait for us to be done with his funeral to push me out of their family to go be on my own with three kids. I have to take care of my kids, my two siblings, also myself, and now try to save my mother that got admitted last week. I know you hate me, I don't know what I did or how I wronged you in the past that could have you hating this hard on me. But please, I beg you with everything you cherish, please do not fire me, don't make me lose my mother, don't shatter whatever crumbs of hope my family are holding onto. I promise to be diligent, hardworking and to go by your rules. If you want me breathing inside your restroom because you don't want to breathe the same air as me, I will. You can do whatever you want with me, but please don't fire me. My own family's existence is depending on this employment." She executed her plan way too perfect, albeit Mikel's face remained stoic, the spite courting his expression had vanished.
He kept eerily quiet, stared at her for multiples seconds and then walked off to his desk without saying a word.
Sylvie was thrown into doubts. Was she not sacked anymore or what? But at least he's not ordering his men to throw her out so that's one positivity right there. She curved a little smirk as she returned to her seat, praising herself for an act well executed.
Earlier while she was alone, the secretary came to submit for her to curate her boss's daily tasks for briefing.
Wanting to make a first impression, she had quickly done it. She picked up the little notebook, in which she had carefully prepared her boss's to do list for the day, she went to Mikel in notion to share the list with him.
"So sir, as submitted and organized by-"
"You don't talk to me without my permission, that will be your first rule. Disobey and you're a ride out of my company." He cut into her words to make his sentence.
"Understood?" He quested her validation, voice calm like a night breeze yet cold like a thousand winter.
Sylvie nodded. She's definitely in for a ride with her ex boss.
