Chapter 20 - Coming Clean

In her declaration of victory, Prya was feeling high on life. She was so dedicated to her dream of bonding with the BloodRaven that, she was determined to do anything to make this a reality. And then, he showed up. Beaten and bruised, the whole caravan went down fighting but it wasn't enough, as the endless swarm of Stone imps flooded the treetops. Eventually Prya was severely injured and on her last breath, when a couple of magical beasts came to her aid. One was strong enough to immediately shift the tide of the battle, some type of Hybrid wolf, while the other, a Mayan mouse, healed not only her, but the rest of the fairies injuries as well. Hope was finally dawning, the fight still wasn't in there favor, but they had a chance.

But her luck had just started, as the battle wore on, and the Gorhino started to wear down the Wolf Dog, and it was looking gloom again. But it was then that the most handsome, and awe inducing man entered the fray, with the BloodRaven as his companion. He drew the Gorhino's attention, with a nicely timed attack and darted away with the Gorhino hot on his tale. The rest was history, Prya's dream had fallen into her lap, and she would do anything to get them. Even marry, the handsome young man, which she thought… might be a bonus.

Most might think this behavior crazy or impulsive, but Prya had always been an outcast amoung her people. Her mother was a celebrated Sylph, well loved, but Prya was viewed as a disgrace due to her powers. She was a FireSylph. A rare breed of Fairy, and in most places highly respected, but Prya lived in a community filled with Wind and nature magic. Fire was seen as the enemy, and after Prya accidentally set a few trees on fire when in a rage or training, she would get picked on and teased. This was how the nickname Wildfire came to be. One she hated with all her heart. She would do anything to escape. That was why she was so quick to search for her soul beast, why she would go to any danger for it; but also why she was excited to be taken away by some strange man, because any adventure surely must be more enjoyable than the life she was living. Prya's life was now beginning again.

With this thought, Prya was racked with guilt. Was she trying to trick her new husband? She wasn't telling me the full story, how she had been searching for months for the BloodRaven. Would he think of her as the others did? Would he cast her aside? These thoughts horrified her. Noticing, the unease on Prya's face, Jason reached out to grab her hand, pulling her into his welcoming embrace. Her hero, and hopefully her lover. When this came to mind, Prya knew she had to come clean to Jason, tell me that she had been spending months searching for the BloodRaven, and that she was just using him to get the bird. Yet, she didn't want anything to disturb the moment.

10 minutes had passed, while she snuggled against Jason's warm chest, and finally Prya spoke in a quiet whisper.

'Please don't leave me, I don't ever want to be alone again.'

Jason looked at her sorrow face questionly

'Why would I ever leave you!?' He said thoughtfully. Prya didn't respond, but just stared into his eyes affectionately.

'Does this have to do with your homeland? Jason kindly muttered.

'Because I heard some of the other fairies call you wildfire, and well it didn't seem like it was the nicest of nicknames.'

Prya just nodded. She didn't want to talk about this. Not now, when she was gaining the confidence to speak.

'I just want you to know, that will never bother me. Back where I come from, wildfires were considered a natural disaster, something to fear. Yet, one day, when I was a kid, I was out with my Parents Dog on a walk and saw smoke billowing in the air. I had no idea at the time, what a wildfire was, so I was intrigued. My parents dog, Bentley rushed towards the fire, and I followed. We were a few kilometers away, but close enough to watch the destruction of the forest. Most people thought this was a horrible tragedy, yet what I saw was one of the most beautiful sites of my life. It was freeing, scary, and gorgeous all at the same time. I remember that day often. I don't think of wildfires as inherently bad, but rather dangerous. And who doesn't love danger' Jason finished with a wink.

Whatever Prya had been feeling, whatever emotions she had been experiencing transformed. This man, was her fated, her love. He had given her so much and would continue to give even more. Prya looked up to him, and finally spoke

'I was being honest… as you might not know, I'm not actually apart of the caravan…"

"Yeah, I noticed hahah, it was pretty obvious " chuckled Jason. This statement didn't faze him in the least.

'Well the reason I joined them was… well it was to find my soul beast'

'Ahh, so that's why you wanted one of my takes magical creatures' he said matter of factly.

'Well no… actually, I knew the exact location and beast I was looking for, as I was able to create a soul bond with them you see. And, it was… Ruby. That is why I was so quick to become your soul spirit. I was willing to do anything for Ruby.' The reaction of Jason's face was evidently bad, so Prya continued to speak louder and faster than before

'But now! I am in love! Please let me still be your soul spirit. I promise I'll be worth it. Please I'll make it up to you. I want this.'

Prya started sobbing. This wasn't going as well as she expected, but she wasn't going to lose him. She needed this man, more than she needed anything else.

Jason was quiet for a moment, as Prya continued to cry. He wiped away one last tear before speaking

'When I asked you to be my soul spirit, I had no idea the implications it would have. I just kind of said it. Yet, I need an Ally, I need someone who knows this world, and these lands. Prya, I'm not mad. I can't wait for you to become my soul spirit.'

With this Prya hugged his peck as hard as possible in utter joy. She was home. She would forever be tied to this young man. She felt free. A permanent bond is a critical part of any spirits life. Dryads choose Trees, Nymphs choose bodies of water, and fairies choose a flower, or a bush. Yet Prya was choosing this man. This mysterious man, who looked different than any one she had ever seen, and she should know better than most, as she was born with Mana Eyes.
