Chapter 1 - I got summoned with my dog

Today was just another run of the mill day. I worked my typically 9-6 office job, where I am starting my grind in the big world of accounting. It has been 13 months since my college graduation, and my life is finally boring. College was one hell of a party. I was going out 4 nights a week getting wasted with my fraternity brothers, while also maintaining above a 3.75 GPA to make sure I graduated suma cum laude. During these days, life was easy. I had no responsibilities, and no care in the world.

Yet, during my senior year, something unexpected happened. I was on a hike, working off the prior nights hangover, when I came across a dog. It was what seemed to be a cross between a border collie, and husky? with predominantly black fur, while having a white chest. She had a pointed face, with the deepest brown eyes that would sink into you. If this wasn't beautiful enough, he face was split in half with one side being completely black and the other white. Reminding me of a character named two face. She changed my world. I took her in, as she was only a few weeks old and needed a home. Ari was an immediate success. Very easy to train; and a hit with all the girls. Life was great.

Now, we jump forward to the future, the future where college is finally behind me, as my 22 year old self is warm out with the white collar work and it hasn't been a full year yet! The only thing, that keeps me going is waking up to my beautiful dog each and every morning. We have gotten into a perfect routine of training and running. I push him to his limits, as we both exercise and propel ours bodies forward. This became my life. Working 9-6, running with Ari ~ 15 miles a day, and then training him at night. Some might say I was becoming a loner, others think that I choose my dog over humans, truthfully, I just was over it. Over the mundane things each person did. The new stories that were all repetitive, or the cardboard cut out girlfriends of the night, that I would run through. Overall, I needed a change and until that change happened, I'd spend my time walking my dog, like I was going right now on this starry summer night. I packed a small backpack with your everyday supplies for a short walk, water bottle, granola bars, wallet, keys, gum, and a random assortment of things at the bottom of the old bag.

Today was a blood moon. One of the rarest moons to come into the night sky, causing all the crazies to come out. I had already walked by a few crazies jumping through dumpster, on my way to the lookout spot.

The lookout spot was a place I found a few summers ago, up on this beautiful mountain, with a perfect view of the night sky, with no artificial light for miles. Ever since then this had become their favorite spot, visiting whenever they had a few free hours. Yet today, something was different about his journey. It was like walking around your house when the power is out. You are almost certain you are going the right way but there is still the lingering doubt in your mind. That was how I was feeling right now. It seemed like something was just off. Yet I had Ari with me and I knew if anyone attacked us, she would be ready to pounce. Ari had always been a very prey driven dog, making our walks a true work out for whoever was brave enough to walk her. Slowly we made our way up the hill and towards a clearing, where I had a great view of the night sky.

I made my way to a large boulder and sat down. Ari came up to my side and placed his head in my lap. We sat there in silence for a few moments. I glanced around, when something shining near the Grand tree that opened up to the clearing. I made my over there and picked the semitransparent green rock. It was dark green, almost black, but was shining similar to a crystal. Was this an emerald? I thought naively, yet it looked more like Kryptonite, than a precious stone.

Suddenly the short walk back became pure darknessness except for the night sky, lost in thought about the stone in my hand, a sudden flash of light engulfed the entire area. My mind went blank, as I grabbed onto Ari as fast as I could to avoid the unavoidable. The light sucked us up instantaneously, barely giving me time to touch my dog, let alone grab her. But yet, as time passed, and my state didn't change. I stared to worry, did I die? Still, I said. Alteast I'm with Ari. We can face anything together.
