Chapter 4 - He's been cheating

Alexis, heart raced. Her fist clenched to her side, as she felt like strangling her husband with her bare hands, but then a voice in her scolded her to calm down.

She summoned courage and acted unbothered about what she just heard.

"Continue. I thought you were saying something. Ignore my presence and finish your statement," she said sweetly. Too sweetly, with a forced smile and a bitter look at the lady.

The lady couldn't say a word nor move anymore. She wished to be anywhere else but there, but that was no more possible.

Had it been the door was still open, she would have quietly withdrawn back and returned to where she was, but unfortunately, she closed the door behind her and immediately stepped in!

"Maya, it is not what you think. She–,"

Damon tried to say some convincing words to her, but the bitter frown and stare he got from her when their eyes locked instantly caused him to stop and remain mute.

Lifting her eyes to have a clear view of the lady, she discovered that it was his assistant, Sabrina Cole, who had been his secretary since he took over the company reins.

Paw!!!

Maya landed a heavy, resounding slap on Damon's cheek, with the design of her five fingers evidently surfacing on his face.

"Ma'am! Please, it's all." The secretary tried to say something, probably to apportion the blame on herself, but before she did that, Maya had pushed herself off the table and slapped the tray she was holding, fuming.

She was shocked in place as she discovered that the heart-shaped diamond ring and necklace she saw at her husband's home office were worn by her.

The tray of tea splashed and spilled all over Sabrina's body.

Angered and heartbroken, Maya carried her bag and dashed out of the office, leaving her shameless cheating husband with his mistress staring at each other like zombies without a word.

It was then that it dawned on her that the discussion of those girls was actually true.

Tears began streaming down her face as her deeply shattered and crushed heart couldn't hold it anymore.

She never saw this coming.

Not for once has she ever suspected that her husband would one day cheat on her.

When she remembered that she was in public and at the same time the number one executive of the company, she tossed her hands inside her bag to get a handkerchief and wipe her face before elevator dinged. She was thankful, that this was a place secluded from any other employee of the company.

Once inside the elevator, she succumbed to the ache in her heart again. All her effort to prove her beauty to her husband on this special day turned out to be futile.

Maya wished she could act as if nothing happened and leave the environment so she could mourn her heartbreak at home, but her fragile heart couldn't hold it anymore.

"Lucia!" She called out in a loud voice to one of the junior staff who was part of the gossip group she saw earlier.

"Lucia, since when has this been going on?" She demanded softly.

"Ma'am, I don't know what you're talking about," Lucia stammered, putting her head down to avoid eye contact with Maya.

"Answer my damn question, Lucia! You know exactly what I'm talking about!" She yelled.

Lucia remained quiet but frightened, still clinging to the fact that she's ignorant of what Maya was saying.

"Lucia, I'm asking you for the last time, since when did your boss start sleeping with his secretary?"

"Ma'am, I don't know exactly when, but I also just noticed it, recently." Lucia stammered, acknowledging that she knew something.

Entering gossip mode, she went closer to Maya and began whispering, "I noticed that the boss and Sabrina always got to work earlier than other workers and would always be the last people to close from work, which was unlike them before.

"So one day, I and one of the other staff decided to sleep in the office to find out for ourselves. And surprisingly, we noticed that their purpose of coming early was to be able to freely have fun anywhere they like without anyone interrupting them."

Taking down his voice a bit lower, she continued, "Sometimes, they do it on the receptionist's couch, sometimes in the store or in his office. That's what has been happening every morning and evening when they come to work," Lucia explained slowly in a calm voice.

"At times, they..."

"Stop! Lucia, that's enough. I don't want to hear about them anymore!" Maya interrupted and cut her short of her speech.

"I'm sorry, ma'am," Lucia apologized softly, but Maya ignored her apology and navigated her way out of the premises.

"Maya! Babe, please wait!" Evans screamed, running after her as she moved in rage, ignoring the voice of anyone who tried to speak to her.

Behind him was his secretary, who was also running after Maya to tender her apologies and explain her actions.

Maya never wanted to hear any explanations, but she felt the need to halt her steps and listen to the nonsense they'll have to say.

"Please, ma'am, I..."

Paw! Maya's hands couldn't help but reach to Sabrina's cheek with a slap.

"You slut! What more explanation do you have to give me for shamelessly sleeping with my husband day-in, day-out?"

Seeing the ring and the necklace on her, her heart felt broken the more.

"In fact, let me have those diamonds you are wearing now!"

Staring at Damon to see if he might say a word to help her out, Sabrina was stunned to see Damon remain silent without saying anything, as if he didn't see the slap his wife just gave her.

She was left with no option other than to quietly take off the diamonds and hand them over to Maya.

"You see this? I'm selling them off and keeping the money to myself!" She declared angrily, looking in Damon's direction.

Damon was short of words to say, but deep down in his mind, he sincerely wanted to apologise and offer an explanation.

Maya ignored his remorseful looks and turned to take her leave.

Without saying anything, Damon continued running after her.

"Watch out, Maya." The call came too late.

Moving in anger and fury, Maya was not too careful to watch her way clearly until she bumped into a middle-aged man who was walking with a file containing some pieces of paper in it.

Maya mistakenly caused the file to fall, scattering the pieces of paper that were contained.

"Oh, I'm sorry, Mister." Maya said softly as she quickly bent to help him with the papers.

"Maya Woods!" The man exclaimed when she finally lifted her head up and he saw who she was.
