Chapter 12: Stabilizing the Breach
The fourth day of war dawned, with demon waves crashing against human lines. Despite heavy losses, the demons persisted. A breach emerged on the left flank, threatening to collapse the entire front.
Elian swiftly responded, leading the Ragtags to seal the gap. Gary crept forward, crossbow poised. Nadia mirrored his movement, firing her shortbow. Ava followed, backpack stocked with healing supplies.
"Mark, Elian, watch our flanks!" Gary shouted.
Mark nodded, sword at the ready. Elian directed the team, in a calm voice.
"Steady, everyone! Hold the line!"
As Gary advanced, demons emerged. Nadia's arrows struck true, while Ava healed wounded soldiers. Elian coordinated the defense.
"Gary, focus on the breach. Nadia, keep firing. Ava, tend to our wounded."
Mark guarded the flank, repelling demons. The Ragtags stabilized the left flank, halting the demon wave.
Elian assessed their gains. "Hold position! We've got a foothold."
Gary called out, "Clearing the breach!"
Nadia's arrows supported his push. Ava healed another soldier.
Elian rallied nearby soldiers. "Let's show these demons our resolve! Charge with me!"
A soldier hesitated. "We'll surely die. It's suicidal."
Elian's determination burned brighter. "Better to die fighting than wait for death! Who's with me?"
Twenty soldiers stepped forward. Elian led the charge, slashing into the demon ranks.
Soldiers followed, fueled by desperation. Mutated creatures fell, limbs severed, heads crushed. The demons tasted fear for the first time.
Demon Captain Vorgath retreated, dispatching minor demons for the next wave.
As night fell, Crebius' war room strategized.
"Reinforce the left flank," Commander Orion urged.
City Lord Crebius nodded resolutely. "Hold the line. We'll crush those abominations!"
