Chapter 11 : start of the end part 2

After two days

At the frontlines of the war :

Crebius' frontlines were ablaze with activity. Humans fortified trenches and patrolled cautiously, ever-vigilant for signs of demonic presence. The once-lush forest now lay barren, scorched by relentless battles.

Watchtower archers scanned the horizon, dispatching mutated creatures daring to approach. Suddenly, a cryptic object hurtled toward an archer. Before he could react, a black spear impaled him, annihilating the watchtower.

Panic spread as low-class mutated creatures charged the northern gate. Emergency bells clanged, mobilizing frontline soldiers.

Trenches bristled with spears, trapping the initial wave. Inexperienced soldiers rejoiced, but veterans stood resolute, sensing an ominous foreboding.

Their dread proved justified. A colossal demon wave emerged, thousands of mutated creatures, both low and high-class, accompanied by hundreds of minor demons and a Demon Captain.

New recruits faltered, paralyzed by fear. The northern gate captain rallied the troops, his voice piercing the chaos.

"Stand firm! Soldiers!, protect your family your children, and homeland! Hold the line!

or else these demons will ravage our lands!"

Soldiers steeled themselves, bracing for impact.

As the demon wave approached, they split into three prongs: left flank, right flank, and center, targeting the gate. Archers unleashed fire arrows, while ray guns and explosives ravaged the demons. Cannons blasted nonstop.

Initial collateral damage: 200 demon casualties. Yet, they advanced relentlessly, tearing apart humans like rabid beasts.

The center held strong, but the left flank crumbled under pressure. Limbs littered the battlefield; blood filled the air. The captain dispatched reinforcements and redirected cannon fire.

Comrades fell to friendly fire, while demons exploited human cover, feasting on flesh until a cannon shell finally obliterated them.

Reinforcements stabilized the left flank and the first demon wave retreated, leaving devastation and a bloody battlefield.

Humans breathed a sign of relief, then confronted the gruesome aftermath. Veterans and captains felt nauseated but controlled themselves

The Casualties mounted:

Their Comrades slain or maimed,Limbs scattered, bodies lost and the survivors traumatized

Right-flank soldiers witnessed the carnage done to the left flank by the demon wave and started losing hope.

"Thank heavens we're alive," one whispered.

The Morale plummeted.

In the crebius' war room, a grim-faced officer studied the battle report.

War Report:

- Mutated creatures: 2,100 (600 killed, 1,500 alive approximately)

- Minor demons: 100 (all alive)

- Demon Captain: 1 (alive)

- Human army: 1,000 soldiers

- Central guards: 500 (100 dead, 350 alive, 50 Wounded approx)

- Right flank: 250 (48 dead, 140 alive, 62 wounded )

- Left flank: 250 (112 dead, 54 alive, 84 wounded)

- Mercenary soldiers: 300 (50 dead, 200 alive, 50 wounded)

The city lord sighed. "A tough war ahead. Prepare yourselves, Captains."

Gate captains and mercenary leaders nodded resolutely.

Meanwhile, at Crebius' southern gate, the Ragtags arrived. Weary and determined, they received immediate assignment to reinforce the battered left flank.

"Reinforcements have arrived," a gate captain announced.

Elian, Ava, Gary, Nadia, and Mark exchanged resolute glances. Their mission: bolster the left flank.
