It was not at all like he assumed it would be. Watching Eiker use the quill was masterful. It was as if he was writing a note and not carving runes into stone. The delicate penmanship was a start difference from earlier.
"It looks simple but it takes many years and patience to get to this level." Eiker was instructing Doric as the skull used his psychic powers to try and write his own runes. It was harder than anything he had ever done.
He opened doors and lifted objects and even pushed and pull things but the fine tune requirements for writing seemed beyond him at this moment. He continued to destroy a beautifully carved stone with what looked like a childs scribble.
"I never thought you would possess something like this. You seemed so headstrong earlier but to see this side of you says a lot about you." Doric tried to complement him but came off a bit blunt.
"Ha! You can never be just one thing in life. Everyone has many facets to themselves that most never get to see." Eiker seemed to enjoy Doric's company and continued scribbling a rune on stone while he talked.
"For instance you are a wisp but you have the manners of a human. Most wisps I have seen are mindless pets to necromancers so to see you act the way you do says a lot about you."
Doric nodded and stopped writing on his stone. He was beat focusing so much on something so delicate. "Yea my story is kinda strange honestly. I was a human and now I am a wisp. But maybe given enough time I can return back to my human form."
"Interesting, and you retained your memories whoever brought you back must have loved you to put that much energy into keeping you as yourself." Eiker lifted the stone in the light and went back to writing into it.
Doric watched him as the dwarf pulled out a magnifying glass contraption to look into the smallest parts of the stone pulling out even more delicate tools to continue writing on it. Doric now saw why the runes were so detailed.
Eiker finished up what he was doing and handed the stone to Doric. "All done!" He looked confident as he let the glow of the runes sparkle in the light.
"This should come in handy. Its a rune of focus. If you put your thoughts into this everyday it should help you with your psychic powers. It also functions as a light spell and a few other tricks but I will let you find those out as you play with it!" He laughed as tossed the stone to Doric.
Catching it with his psychic hand he looked at it with my monocle. Like every other rune in this place it was just as intricate as those if not more so. " Wow, thanks Eiker what do I owe you?"
Waving his hand to remove the question he responded. "Nothing at all, just glad to have help taking care of the Cordos. Have not seen people this happy in a while."
Doric nodded and clicked his teeth before heading out. He still had a goal of thanking Meldrid for saving Nyssa. "Would you know where Meldrid lives?"
Eiker snorted a noise of discomfort. "What would you want with that old bag?"
"She helped my friend and I wanted to thank her." Doric responded surprised Eiker did not seem to like her.
Shaking his head he started digging into a bag of runes looking for something. "Well if you are going to go see her, I might as well give you something for her."
Doric watched as he continued digging in and tossing stones to the ground as he found the one he was looking for. Feeling a little sad that the dwarf was tossing around such valuable works of art like they were regular stones.
Doric understood that a person's craft usually came with this kinda treatment after a while. Something so amazing to others was just common place junk to its creator. He took the stone and looked back at Eiker.
"I owe her this for taking care of my hands earlier. Make sure she gets it so she can stop harassing me…" Eiker opened the door to the streets and started giving directions.
"Just take a left here and go down that street till you see the tanners, once there take another left and her house is the one that smells like spices. Oh well you probably can't smell but its the ones that has herbs hanging on the door and windows."
Doric nodded and did a bow. "Thanks for having me Eiker, I learned a lot in these last few hours."
"Of course, come back anytime you need a rune or just to learn more. I wish more of these guys had the curiosity you hold. Would get a lot more done in this town…" Eiker grinned and closed the door.
Making his way to Meldrids place was simple enough. The house did not just have a few herbs on the door it was quite literally made out of dried herbs every inch of that door and the windows as well were covered in different herbs it surprised him to see just how many there were.
He used his psychic hand to knock on the door and he was met with a familiar voice.
"If you're here for treatment make sure you don't own me first. Otherwise find someone else." Meldrid sounded monotone in her response. She took a moment and opened the door and looked at Doric.
"Ah the Dark Elfs pet. What do you need?"
Doric felt a little uncomfortable with the start but he pulled out the stone for her and drifted it towards her. "This is from Eiker. He wanted me to give this to you."
She took the stone. "So you are an errand wisp for others now? It's about time he got this to me." She went to close the door but Doric stopped her.
"Wait!"
She cracked the door. "Did you need something else wisp?"
"I wanted to thank you for helping Nyssa, I really can't thank you enough." He was very sincere in his words.
"Yea? If you are being honest then do me a favor."
