Chapter 38 - A Choice to Make

Meldrid looked shocked and horrified at the kid's condition but less in a pity way and more in an abomination way. "This thing needs to be burned right away before the Mushrooms get wind of it and start heading this way!"

She quickly went to grab a torch and some oil near one of the guards who gritted his teeth and looked away. He had seen this before but never with a child. He felt a sense of guilt knowing that he was about to hear the screams of the child as he burned alive.

She began to douse the body in oil but as she went to fling it she felt a strong force stopping her. Doric was looking right at her. His eyes glowed a deep dark blue with anger. "What the hell do you think you're doing to that child."

Without hesitation, she spat back. "This thing is no longer human. Look at it. It's been infected too far by the fungal growth. It will send a signal to the rest of the hive if we give it time and then the blood of the city will be on your hands."
