Spotty and blinking he no longer had the monocle spell activated. Looking at the book it continued to glow a faint red warm color but did not seem to be dangerous. He looked at his friend confused and hesitant to open the book.
"What was that?" She asked
"I don't know, it just flashed and told me what looked like an infinite repeating number." Doric took a moment. Took in a deep breath and then opened the book slowly.
Nothing happened. But it did happen to open up to chapter 2. He looked it over.
CHAPTER 2- MAGIC POWER AND YOU!
If you are getting this far you either want to know more now. Or you used the first spell and now have questions. That makes sense either way! Magic power is the overall power of an individual object or person. This helps mages determine how strong they are and where their development is. Symbols may appear next to the numbers, If that happens it tells you the element and its weakness or strength. Keep in mind more complex magic items and people will have more complex symbols creating circles and pentagrams if combined and crafted properly.
"Oh, so it's telling me that the trap is lightning and it's weak to earth or something like that." Doric looked at the trapped handle once again and then back at Nyssa. "So the trap has a strength of 5500 whatever that means and you Nyssa have a strength of 4000. I wonder what mine is…"
He decided to cast the monocle spell again and look in the mirror. "Oh, that makes sense." The number above his head was 104. "So my power is very weak. Probably because I am brand new to all of this."
Just as he was about to look away he saw it tick up 1 point. "Neat so my power has increased. Wonder why." Looking back at the book he continued reading the book aloud.
When you cast spells and ingest magical foods you can increase your powers. Enchantments and items in your possession also increase your overall power. There are an unlimited amount of ways to obtain power and the most powerful mages are still experimenting with efficient ways of obtaining it.
He closed the book and sat on the bubble bed. "This is a lot to take in all of a sudden. So we are both confused as to why we are here. We have some kind of goal to get your memories back and also somehow make us rulers of this world. Likely that will ever happen. But now we need to overcome this trap. Its power level is beyond us by quite a stretch and I don't see my powers increasing anytime soon."
Looking around with that new information Nyssa tried to find anything that looked magical. But without the monocle, she could not really tell what was and wasn't. Doric on the other hand looked around and saw that just about everything in the room held some kind of magic but it seemed like most of it had a Water < Lightning symbol on it.
"Just our luck that you put a trap on the door just before losing your memories…" He sighed and continued looking at the objects in the room.
"Hey, It's not like I did it on purpose…I think." She pouted a little as she picked up a potted plant. The plant itself seemed like it produced fruit but she could not tell what kind. It had a cute purple flower on it and smelled sweetly.
"This looks so cute, I wonder what it grows." She looked over to Doric who was checking out a plate on the table. He turned to look at it and was surprised. It showed four symbols
Earth += Water
Fire > Earth
The power on it was very low only at 54 points but it was the first earth symbol object he found.
"Interesting, it's an earth element object it looks like. It also looks like water can be added to it. Makes sense since its a plant."
Nyssa looked excited now. "What happens if we water it? Do you think it will grow in power?"
His eyes raised a little surprised he did not think about that. He looked around at all the water based objects in the room looking for the one with the most power. He saw one. It looked like a small vial of green liquid. It had a power score of 364 which was the highest in the room. Grabbing it he opened it, it smelled very potent, like onions almost. Shrugging he looked to Nyssa and back at the plant and took a deep breath in.
Pouring the liquid into the pot his monocle seemed to glow a little as the number score kept increasing on the plant. It started growing 1 at a time then in increments of 10 and finally an increment of 100s. Until it was near 2000 points in power. From the flower grew a small purple looking apple.
"It's so cute!" Nyssa squealed as she studied it.
I wonder if that fruit would work to remove the trap now. It did say objects in someone's possession or magical food could increase powers." Looking over Nyssa she covered herself with her hands as if embarrassed and gave him a frown.
"Hey there, don't get any ideas now!" She kept eying him but he noticed her power level had not increased yet.
"Try eating the apple." He had his hand at his chin curious as to what would happen.
"Is it safe?" she asked remembering the liquid smell and worried the fruit might be poisoned.
"I don't see a poison symbol on it so I think it's safe." He responded biting his cheek as he also felt a little worried now.
She looked at the fruit. It looked beautiful for an apple. Purple in color but more like lilac instead of royal. She smelled it and it smelled very sweet. Shrugging she took a bite and immediately perked up.
"Are you alright?" he asked as she looked surprised. Moments later she devoured the apple and looked at Doric.
"Quick make another one!" She looked really excited now.
"What's wrong?" He asked confused.
"I have never had a fruit this delicious in my entire life! Quick find more of that gross liquid and make another apple!"
Dismissing her demand he looked at her power level. It was now growing quickly. From her normal 4000 up to now 6000 by the time it stopped moving. Not only that a symbol appeared near her head.
Earth 10:00 and counting down.
"I wonder if food only gives a temporary boost to power. Either way, we need to hurry and get that door opened if we are going to get out of here."
Nyssa pumped her arm in the air and walked over to the door. She went to grab the handle but hesitated for a moment. "It's not going to shock me again is it?"
Sighing he looked at her and shook his head. "I doubt it, your power level is higher and you are earth element so I think it should overpower the trap." His words did not sound convincing to her once bit but she exhaled her discomfort at being his guinea pig once again. Extending all the way to the handle she grabbed ahold of it and…
Nothing, the door did not zap her in fact sparks flew around her hand but none landed on her at all. Doric on the other hand being too close to the trap did get a few sparks on himself one of with caught his clothing and started a small fire. He patted it out and looked at the door once again.
As the sparks were flying everywhere he noticed that the power of the trap was lowering quickly.
"Keep holding it Nyssa it's weakening now!" Doric looked really excited he had never had this feeling before. He was overcoming magic with magic and using his brain way more than he had in his previous life. He looked at the door and finally, the trap had dissipated. In one final flash of light the door stood still and the room darkened a little.
"Nyssa, if you could open the door now, we can finally get out of here!" She smiled and pulled the door outwards and to their surprise the entire area outside this room was pitch black. Some drops of water could be heard in the distance hitting the ground from time to time and the only light they had was in the room they were in and also at the very end of the path in front of them but that was a good distance away and without proper equipment they were not about to venture into the unknown.
"What do we do now? Nyssa asked worried and a bit scared.
"For now we look for anything that can be used for lighting and we see what is out there. I just hope it's nothing dangerous…"
