Henry Esprit
Well, here we go. Pulling up to Andreas house I parked my car by the curb and sent her a text saying I was here. I had spent the past couple hours getting ready. Between taking a shower, picking out clothes, and getting a lecture from mom on the dos and don't of meeting your girlfriend's parents, it had taken a while.
I walked up to the front door and rang the doorbell. Within seconds I heard someone rushing to the door. I could hear the sounds of the locks unlatching before the door swung upon. "Hey, Henry, come on in." Andrea greeted me. "Thanks." I followed her inside where she closed the door behind me.
She looked a little awkward, as if she was unsure about what to do. It was a different side of her I hadn't seen before, she always seemed confident about everything, it was cute. "You look good." I said, and I saw her face go a little red.
I wasn't lying, her attire was different from her school or date clothes. I had never actually seen her wearing her lounging clothes. She was only wearing black leggings and a tight gray shirt, but It suited her perfectly.
"Thanks, you do too." She said while curling her hair with her finger. I could feel my face turning a little red. "Thanks" I said, a little shyly. Why does everything feel more awkward than usual, it's almost like how it felt before we started dating
Is it because we're at her house and her family might hear? I am glad she thought so though. I spent way too long trying to find the right outfit. Eventually my mom came in and picked an outfit she called "nice, but not formal." Khaki jeans and a light blue polo.
Whilst standing there awkwardly with Andrea a shiver suddenly went down my spine, someone was watching us. I turned around quickly to see 3 pairs of eye peeking around the opening to what appeared to be the dining area. One of the pair of eyes walked out. She looked nearly Identical to Andrea other than the fact that she appeared to be a few years older.
"Hello, my name is Henry, I didn't know Andrea had an older sister." Everyone in the room paused for a minute and I could hear howling laughter coming from the dining room. The older Andrea spoke "Thank you for saying so, but I'm Andreas mother, not her sister.
I froze. I could feel Andreas' death glare coming from behind me and a similar one coming from the dining area. This wasn't gonna end well for me.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Mrs. Leno." I said while scratching the back of my head, embarrassed. "Oh it's completely fine, it's a compliment if anything." She was unfazed, but I was still frozen from the deathly auras coming from either side of me.
One of the sources of death appeared, Mr. Leno. While the expression on his face was one of indifference, the aura he was giving off was more frightful than that of a great spirit.
While part of me wanted to scream and run away, I straightened myself and reached my hand out to shake his. "Hello again, Mr. Leno." He looked down at my hand before shaking it. After he let go he walked back into the dining room with Mrs. Leno following behind him. Yeah, he definitely didn't like me.
"Come on you two, let's go. She waved for me and Andrea to follow her. I made eye contact with Andrea who had a look of pity in her eyes. I shrugged and followed her into the dining room to the large wooden table covered in food. Mr. Leno had already sat down at the head of the table. Sitting to his left was a younger version of him, this one had to be Andreas' older brother.
Upon making eye contact with me he hopped out of his seat and came over to me and reached out his hand. "Nice to meet you, I'm Kevin, the actual older sibling." His eyes were a little red as if he had been crying. He must've been the one laughing earlier.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Henry." I took his hand and shook it. "Oh trust me I've heard al-" "Sit down." Kevin was cut off by his father and wasted no time sitting back down.
Mrs. Leno had taken her place to the right of Mr. Leno and Andrea sat next to her. Kevin pulled out the chair next to him and patted it while looking at me. I sat there. Upon taking my seat I was handed a plate of food from Mrs. Leno. It had slices of ham, mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli, and a roll. I thanked her for the food as she began to hand out similar plates to everyone else.
The family wasted no time eating, and the pace they consumed food at was astonishing but somehow still looked elegant. All the food at the table was quickly consumed without any talking and we moved out to the living room while Mrs. Leno and Kevin cleared the table.
I sat down with Andrea on one end of the family's half-square shaped couch. Mr. Leno sat down on the other end. Shortly after, Mrs. Leno joined us and sat with her husband.
We sat there in silence for a few minutes, watching a show about a man screaming and his hair turning blue. It was pretty good, so I added it to my mental watchlist. After a while Kevin came from upstairs carrying some type of multicolored box.
He plugged it into the TV and changed the input. I immediately recognized the layout, he had brought out a Mimtemdo Change. He passed out controllers to everyone in the room.
"What better way to get to know each other than through a game?" He exclaimed. Mr. Leno was the first to stand up. "Not a bad idea, but I won't take it easy on anyone." He said with conviction. "I wouldn't want it any other way." Andrea followed suit. "Oh, now I don't plan on losing either." Even Mrs. Leno was in on it. I could see the sparks between all 4 members of this family, they were all serious about winning.
